The pit in his stomach was a canyon. He had hidden the truth for too long. Maybe, just maybe, had he come clean from the start, those properly at fault would have taken the punishment. But then, since when had Mr. Titan (as he had been named by some) ever done things fairly?

Judgement day had arrived. Displeased with the lack of progress a week's worth of Opal study should have granted, their executive leader was coming for a personal view of the laboratory. Out of fear he had stayed; out of fear now, he ran, bowling over colleagues and surprised guards in his mad rush for the exit. As a sniper's bullet felled the man, he smiled.. better than the torture the CEO had shown a penchant for of late.

The news reached the top quickly. The deepest fears of failure came to life, sending the man down to their basement in haste, cursing the slowness of the elevator. Upon arrival, several waiting bodyguards escorted him to the lab, where he flung the door open with a terribly heavy hand.

"What is going on here?!" His cold, harsh voice echoed through the halls. "Why has my lead scientist been shot dead? I want answers!"

Shaking was the voiced reply, the body from which it emanated barely keeping upright. "Sir... he feared you.. what you would do.. "

"What I would do... when?" The hiss, so much like a rattlesnakes, seeped heavily through his voice.

"When you found out.. we have no Opals."

An odd calm washed over his visage, sending the scientist employees into a state of minor shock.

"What happened?"

His confidence somewhat buoyed, the shaking man continued. "The.. Green, Pathfinder.. was a fake. We can't he sure if Boh realized it or not. We couldn't find the Icedancer on Goon, either.. before or after our first test and experiment phase."

"I see. Who of you is working on the Goon project, since it was brought up?"

A single hand raised. "Just me, sir.. I'm helping this team out today, but normally we are all separate."

"Yes, I know. Come here." A strong, thick finger beckoned the confused employee over. Once he reached his superior, they both proceeded to turn and exit the room, along with the bodyguards. Once outside, the heavy doors shut; patiently, almost with a smile, the older gentleman allowed his worker to return to his normal post.

As the baffled, yet ecstatic, scientist went around the corner and proceeded back to his regular working lab, the CEO nodded to a man by a small button on the wall. As it was pressed, he began the walk back to the elevator in solitude, his thoughts considering what could be done now. It was time for the big guns.

Ironic that such a thought would cross his mind as the oddly soothing sound of screams and bullets from turrets in the wall echoed from the lab.
