House Questrion

Valmion approached the gate to Questrion Manor, the guard posted there opening it with a nod of his head. Valmion returned the nod and stepped through the gateway, heading down the stone path towards the manor house. Two more guards were posted inside the gate, each nodding in return to Questrion's lord. Breunis had set up the security well he thought as he walked up the stone steps to the front door of the old and weathered manor
house. The door was opened by yet another guard, bringing a bit of a light hearted chuckle from Valmion as he stepped into the house proper.
He moved down the hall towards the tavern area of the manor house, where he heard voices. Valmion had been pleased to hear that this house his family occupied six months ago was still on the market when they had returned last week. Ellidis Wands quickly negotiated a deal for the manor house and they had moved in the day after they arrived in RhyDin Town. Breunis quickly went about the task of hiring and organizing guards to serve House Questrion.
Moralitor went about setting up the magical wards and guardians that would protect the manor house. Arlingond had already arrived in RhyDin Town a few weeks earlier and his son was already active in the arena once more.
Valmion himself had spent a few evenings in the arena testing the public mood to Questrion's return to the duels. It seemed, on the surface anyway, to be a welcomed thing. Yet Valmion knew all too well that what seemed all right on the surface was not necessarily the case in RhyDin. Time would tell he had mused, knowing the political waves that washed over the arena were beyond any one man or woman to control, the art was learning to ride them.
"Good morning father," Arlingond said as Valmion stepped into the tavern area. His son was sitting with Ellidis at a table having coffee. "Good morning son," Valmion replied with a smile, walking over to the bar and pouring a cup of coffee for himself. He then turned and walked over to join the two young men at the table.
"I think you should hear an idea that Ellidis has, that might avoid misunderstandings on House Questrion's policies or politics," Arlingond said as he father sat at the table. "Well," Valmion chuckled in response, "I am always up to hearing ideas that might stop the inevitable".

"Well m'lord," Ellidis began. "House Questrion has a policy of swearing fealty to the house in a public forum, thus allowing those in the arena to know who wears the black and silver of this house and what they are supposed to stand for. I say supposed, as I think most of the populace of the arena have their own thoughts and ideas on what House Questrion stands for and seeks to gain. To counter this, I would suggest that this time you
post publicly the Oath of Questrion that all members agree to, so that when rumors surface as to why the house did this or that, the truth will be public knowledge," he then pauses for a sip of his coffee to test Valmion's response to his thoughts.
"I think the idea is a good one Ellidis," Valmion responded, looking to both of the young men. "It seems that RhyDin does lack a little understanding as to the nature of a cavalier, as we do end up in political hot water with each challenge that is made from the house," he continues with a smile, followed by a sip of his own coffee. Arlingond chuckled at his fathers response. "Lets try and keep it at a simmer this time around father, I do not wish
to be run off to join a more politically correct house this time around". The three men laughed at that as Breunis entered the tavern area, his hands reaching behind his head, tying off his long black ponytail. "Good morning," the former Black Knight of Camelot called out, heading over to the bar. The three men at the table returned the greeting, as Valmion slid a chair over for Breunis.
"So, who has shown interest in House Questrion so far father," Arlingond asks as Breunis joins the three men. Valmion sat back a moment and looked around the table. "I am trying to be cautious in recruiting this time around, as you three well know, our last attempt at re-establishing Questrion turned sour fast due to those who were suppose to be loyal to our ideals," his voice showing a little of the hurt that was still there from his last stay in
RhyDin. "Yet," he continued, "I have one good candidate at the present and received a missive from another potential member this morning. I am also going to talk to a few of our former members in the next couple of weeks, to see if they might be interested in returning," Valmion then paused, sipping his coffee and looking to the other three men. "Adonai Uziel has asked for a truce with us on our return, to which I agreed. Yet I wish everyone here
to be careful in your dealings with this man, he can be dangerous and also I am not sure if Moralitor has forgiven him for forcing that Baronial Challenge to be fought while the Warlords Tournament was underway the same evening. So, please, watch yourselves carefully, I do not wish to find myself in such a war of hatred again this time," he finished with another sip of his coffee, the other three at the table nodding in agreement.

"M'lord, I also have two other letters of interest that you need to reply to," Ellidis said to Valmion, as they were on the discussion of recruits. "Both were well written, by as you have just stated, I would proceed with caution this time around."
"Your thoughts are so noted," Valmion replied. "Put the missives in my study on the desk, I will look them over this weekend."
"All the guards have been hired Valmion," Breunis spoke up, having been sitting and listening to the words spoken this morning. "Twenty four men, three shifts of eight, working eight hours on and sixteen hours off. I feel this should cover the manor house well enough, seeing how Moralitor has sealed us off from any magical or technology attacks."
"Very well Breunis," Valmion replied, "I will need to check with the mage on the status of those wards, but I agree, the protection should be adequate." Valmion then rose from the table, having finished his coffee, he had a long day ahead of him. "Excuse me gentlemen, but I must be off on errands," he said with a nod of his head. Breunis also rose, he himself also having some work to be done. Both the young lads, Arlingond and Ellidis stood and
said good bye, before sitting back down, alone once more to discuss the more important matters concerning Questrion. The young ladies they had taken note of since their return.

Valmion sat out in the courtyard of Questrion Manor and sipped at his coffee, taking a moment in the cool of the RhyDin morning to reflect back on his first official week back in the arena. It had been perhaps one of the quietest weeks in Questrion's rather colorful history, yet had been perhaps one of the most significant of late. For the first time in many years, the Lord of Questrion actually had his heart into his dueling and it
showed in his performance in the rings. It had happened Thursday evening and it erased so many memories that Valmion had been carrying with him the last few years.
"More coffee m'lord," Hubie's voice brought Valmion from his thoughts. He had hired Hubie to work in Questrion when he was not serving in the Arena. He had given the young lad a nice room at Questrion manor as part of his salary, enjoying having his personality around the manor house.
"Please," Valmion replied, sliding his cup to the edge of the table. Hubie poured the coffee and then smiled to the Lord of Questrion before turning and walking back to the manor house, passing Prince Arlingond along the way. "Good morning your highness," Hubie said with a slight chuckle to his words. This brought a laugh from Arlingond, as he knew Hubie liked to tease him about being a prince. "Morning Hubie," Arlingond said as he passed, then
looking over to the table. "Good morning father," Questrion's young prince said as he pulled out a chair to take a seat.
"Good morning son", Valmion replied, smiling as Arlingond joined him at the table. "How was your week, I have not seen you much," Valmion asked, then taking a sip of the fresh coffee. Arlingond chuckled softly and looked over at his father. "Ellidis is crazy, he and I spent the week chasing bar wenches and drinking," the young prince said, shaking his head somewhat. "I feel like I have just went fifteen rounds with the Lady Jonalyn." Valmion
laughed at his son's comment, then taking another long drink of his coffee, noting the arrival of Moralitor in the courtyard.

Jola woke up this morning, fairly surprised that she was in Questrion again. Yet somehow, not really surprised. She'd always had a part of Questrion within her. Now with Ulath gone, and Valmion becoming closer...well, this might just be the right place for her.
Standing, wrapping a sheet around her, she looked around Valmion's chamber. You can tell a lot by a person by their bedroom. Valmion was man filled with memories, good and bad. He had trouble letting go of his wife. She walked to the patio door of the suite that overlooked the courtyard. She smiled as she saw Moralitor, Arlingond, and Valmion there. She watched them awhile, feeling somewhat safer here than anywhere else in a long time. Maybe, just
maybe Moralitor's magic and Valmion's...and Arlingond's blades would be enough to keep Khan Jorah from reaching her.
Maybe.

Moralitor walked over to the table where Arlingond and Valmion sat, gathering the long black and silver robes about himself as he took a seat for himself.
"Good morning Moralitor," Arlingond said as the mage sat.
"Arlin," the mage inclined his head to the young man, smiling as Hubie sat a cup of coffee before him. He then looked to Valmion and raised a brow. "I do believe that last night I sensed the presence of Baff near Questrion Manor.
"Baff?" Valmion inquired with a quick turn of his head to the mage, as if being brought out of another deep thought. The mage nodded the affirmative and took a sip of his coffee.
"It was only for a brief time, and he seemed very different than the young lad I remember, but it was indeed Baff," Moralitor continued. "I will keep you informed on anything else I learn."
Valmion nodded and then looked up to the second story of Questrion Manor and then back to the mage and his son. "Make sure that Breunis keeps wary this day, someone or something is after Jola," he said softly.
Arlingond kind of shuffled in his chair a moment and then looked across the table at his father. "You know, I think I am old enough now to ask this kind of question of you father," he said, his silver gaze locked on his father. "Why Jola?"
The mage almost spit out the sip of coffee he was taking at the time and quickly sat his cup down, looking from Arlingond to Valmion. He thought he almost saw disappointment in Valmion's face as he looked to his son, not disappointment in the question asked, but in the fact that it was being asked.
"You know father, my memories of my mother are few, but the stories are many that your friends have told me. She was special, and I, perhaps better than any, have seen how long it has taken you to get over her. Please be careful here father, Jola is a friend, don't get me wrong. But after the lust, will you be comfortable around her," Arlingond said with calm words, then standing and looking to his father.
"In this rare time in RhyDin when there isn't anyone out to hurt you, don't hurt yourself," he said, resting his hand on his fathers shoulder a moment, then walking towards the gate. "Ellidis and I are going wenching again, don't look for me the rest of the week," he said merrily as he passed the guards at the gate to Questrion Manor.
The mage turned and looked to Valmion, who was still silent. "The lad has grown quite wise in his young years," he said softly to Valmion. "He has, hasn't he," Valmion replied, standing himself and looking down to the mage. "Make sure that Breunis watches over Jola this day, I am concerned for her safety," he said, then turned to the gate himself, needing sometime alone.

That evening, after a day of being watched and guarded, she felt even more trapped than before. This whole business was driving her slowly insane. She *must* get it over with soon, push it, as much as she could. Whatever way it came out, she just *had* to make something happen. Beyond that, if she stayed at Questrion, and something came for her there, she risked not only her life, but that of Valmion, Moralitor, Breunis, and everyone else. She had no
idea what to expect.
So she slipped out. She made it known that she was out and about, alone, to whatever was watching her. She knew the arena would be empty tonight, or relatively so, so she set out for it, feeling more comfortable there than anywhere else.
It worked. For better or for worse, it worked. Her "Angel" found her, and the fight commenced. Thankfully Kalamere was there to help her, though she was pained that she had let anyone else be in danger.
After the fight, there was much healing to be done.
((occuring before Jola's fight, and the night before Percy's challenge.))
