Challenge to the Eleventh
From: dukeuziei@aol.com (Duke UzieI)
Date: 23 Sep 1998 01:35:47 EDT
Baron Gimmzak, Patrons of the Duels
I have decided to press challenge for the Ring you hold. There are a few reasons for my decision, needless to say none of them is because I find you an incompetant Baron. I challenge you for the mere fact that I know no matter who I challenge....the Overlord will intervene....because the Gods know no former Baron is worthy of an uncontested shot at title...unless of course you are removing a Renegade Baron...then its okay.
And needless to say I will expect to meet the Overlord in this bout....I am sure he will INSIST. And I am sure you will not turn him down....so I will ready for that eventuality. Now of course...you could defend your ring honorablly and with your own blade, which is what I would expect of you. But as I said....unless your on Dalamars team...he'll do anything to keep you from a title. So needless to say....either way....I will come
prepared.
So...without further ado, the wins that give me right of challenge.

Humming faintly to herself, Jaycy makes her way through the quiet Arena, toward the offices, to put away some paperwork.
Passing the corkboard, she catches sight of the word "Gimmzak" on a paper out of the corner of her eye. Knowing of his absence, she stops to take a closer look.
Nodding, she notes it as a notice of challenge, and skims the paper to find out who... and when she does, her eyes narrow slightly, and she looks over it again, this time reading the entire sheet closely.
Growling low, she moves from the boards and to the office. After doing what she needs to do, she slips from the office, and the Arena, expression hard...

Adonai,
I must admit to some amusement at your words. Was it with this same "honor" that you defended your ring against my challenge several months past? I think not.
In defense of your own choice to allow Dalamar to interceded on that duel, you said:
"One must be able to see the difference between personal wants and needs, and what is needed to be done with the title at the time. The Baron that looks beyond his own aggrandizement, and truly serves the title, is a Baron"
You saw no lack of honor in your own failure to draw a blade, I fail to see how you can now justify taking such a stance in regard to the same scenario.
But then.. I suppose it is not the first time you've acted the hypocrit.

...Carefully reads Kalamere's post, and hides a grin. Finding the fact pointed out very interesting, he refrains from posting anything. Walking away he talks to himself absently....
Kalamere always did make sense. Wonder if Adonai can argue with him as well as I can.

Actually, Adonai:
Kalamere just had an uncontested shot at a ring we're both familiar with, and I wasn't a Renegade at any point.
Make what you will of it, the concept of a "worthy challenger" in mind.

Lord Kalamere,
You are correct in your assertations. My one use of the Overlord's blade in my titles defense is something I am far from proud of. It was a time I allowed myself to be a part of that which I now revile....the testing of worthy men by the Overlord on the mere face of his want of total power. You need not remind me of my mistake Lord Ar'Din....it is something that has twisted in my mind since its occurance.
I did defend the Seventh against four other challengers with my own hand. And none of them any more worthy than your own, at the time...I saw it as politically expediant. Now.....I know better. Our challenge m'lord, as I said...is something I am far from proud of and I will not even attempt to defend it.
But even you, to my daughter explained, that a challenge is not an evil thing, but merely a game of *King of the Hill*. One would think, that from wisdom such as that...such viperous attack of another mans words would not be issued...that some amount of tolerance would be inherent in one with such wisdom.
One would hope for a time, none to soon, that challenges, and challengers alike, like in the past, will not have to face such rhetoric. Politics have twisted and destroyed this place, made it a place of enemies and hatred. In a time not so long ago, many warlords and Barons strove and competed with each other in relative friendship, and now...we stand in civil discord...with those that support Dalamar...and those that don't. And
those that don't care. Some wish to see this as a Golden time, with the uninterrupted rule of the Golden King, but people like that are blind to the true wound that has been ripped open within this place. Many have left this realm, never to return, friendships and loyalties have been destroyed, all because of him. I offer myself, Heath, Baphelocutis and diverse others as evidence. It is my belief, and my understanding from others....that it was not
so bad as this before Lord Dalamar began playing Chess with the titles in an attempt to have total power within the Council. So much that he would often line up Warlord after Warlord in attempt to remove a Renegade Baron, though this is seen as wrong should a Renegade do the same to him, none have called him hypocrite for his actions to defend his title, nor his Council....but that is the way of things, what is good for the goose is not good for the
gander it would seem. One would assertain that he...not I, should be the target of your scrutiny, as he has, more often than I, changed his views and policy to fit his personal likes or dislikes.I would insofar as speculation expect him to name his horse a Baron in the tradition of an ancient power mad Emperor....and expect the Loyals to just nod and agree for fear of being outcast by not only the Overlord himself, but the populace which blindly
follows him. My challenge is honorable and in respect to the Baron....one would ask that you attempt to view it as such.
There are things I live by Kalamere Ar'Din....one of them is not being a rock. With times, so changes the man, a fact well demonstrated by your technical loyalty to the Crown. I will not attack you for your change in loyalty due to concessions from the Crown. One would ask that you do not attack me for merely having different feelings in a different time.
So, thusly, I bid you good day Baron, try and wear the Seventh with honor, and with wisdom. And....with sufferance for others. It will become you greatly.

General Perrinis,
My apologies, I was unaware of your challenge....as I do not obsess on the Seventh Ring. But you have brought up a valid point. A Loyal Baron gets challenged by a known renegade to the Crown, Lord Kalamere....and the Overlord just lets that one get by. Puts one in mind Heath Duncan Connor MacCormick, a loyal Baron that went undefended to be replaced by a friend of the Overlords.
One would continue to surmise, from the gathering evidence, that I, Lord Kalamere, though could be seen as such, am not the hypocrit as much as the Lord you support.
Just a thought.

Adonai,
It would seem, to me, that from your many messages upon the Board, the conclusion can be drawn that you'll be using the Seventh to attempt to challenge Dalamar, if victorious. If this is in fact your intention, why not just challenge without being a Baron? Oh wait, as a Baron you wouldn't get tested, but as a Warlord you certainly would, probably by someone like me..
Hmm, lucky for us all you've decided to wait to challenge Dal again. I mean, none of we "lapdogs," as you've so eloquently put it on numerous occasions, would like to test someone like you, would we?

Warlord Uziel,
It is with nothing less than total abohorrence that I read your references to myself. You accuse me of changing my views and being a hypocrite, yet you pride yourself on not being a rock, saying that the man changes with the times. I, "old friend", am not a rock either. As times change, so have I, and I will continue to do so.
Perhaps in your vile accusations you might wish to take a look at when the last time was that I involved myself in a Baronial affair. When, you ask? Why, it was when Kalamere challenged you. I am by no means stating that I will not engage in this activity again, but I am merely pointing out the irony that you now use this as an excuse for your own agenda, while you had no problem supporting myself and it while I was actually interceding.
As for the people I have drove from here, I choose not to speak for Heath or Baphelocutis, or the "countless others," but frankly your words ring out hollow in my ears, as the words of an angry and bitter individual. You, Adonai, turned your back on me. I was true to you throughout all of your whirlwind endeavours, and you, on a whim, left me. Only to challenge in less than a weeks time. For this, I shall never again give credit to your anger or
acknowledge the horrible insults you hurl at me in the name of justice. I, Adonai, have not done anything to intentionally harm this sport, nor have I done anything to drive people whom I once respected and or do respect from our midst.
Rest assured that your unprovoked insults only serve to further drive in the knife you so aptly placed in my back months ago. I do not forget easily, Adonai, and never again will you fool me with promises of friendship and loyalty. I, finally, truly see you for the self-serving person that you accuse me of being. Vengeance is mine, Adonai Uziel, and I will repay.
sincerely,

Another point,
Where I have done little but admit my own faults, The Overlord and the soon to be Baron Sartan have both stepped forth and attacked me for my opinion. A fair game they play.
Does it bother you Dalamar that someone disagrees with you? That someone sees you as wrong and is strong enough within themselves to question you? I believe so, had these past words been anything near balderdash you would have done to me as you do to some many, patronize or ignore them. You call me bitter? Aye I am bitter, bitter for the friendships lost and the times never to be reclaimed because of you. Am I the one that viciously
turned on a friend in a challenge that I meant as a friendly bout in the rings? Could you have possibly done the same for me that you had done for Nova and others before him? No....you could not. Why? Because your *friendship and support* was only expedient to my support of you and once I became less than useful you threw me to side. You call me a traitor and backstabber. I call you something to be pitied. A man that uses others, and then tries to
destroy them when they cry foul.
You are, old man, as I have pointed out here, the source of the hatred and wrong that plagues us. By YOUR hand things have come to pass that have bereaved noble men that would fight you of what is rightfully THEIRS.....not YOURS. Do not accuse me of malefeseance and traitorous action, all I did was raise a hand against you in the spirit of competition, YOU are the one that turned that hand to hate....NOT I.
And Sartan, ever so smug and completely unintelligable. These are the things of which I speak. You...young Baron, who used to claim me as friend and look up to me. You who sought me out in the mists of creation and asked me to return to this land. You would attack me openly? And attempt to wrong me in some misconcieved notion of your own skill? I am ashamed of you.
My words publically have been mild, and the opinions are not only mine. Seek your vengence elsewhere Dalamar. Because if you cross me once more I will be highly wroth. Hold your Crown while you still can....and attempt to at least maintain the demenor that you are an honorable Overlord. As your childish attack of my opinions has done nothing but show your backside to the entire community.
I have come here to enjoy myself, not to put up with petty men with pettier insults. I have decided to make claim for title once more. These are not dishonorable things. And for YOU Dalamar to try and make anyone think that because I seek title I dishonor this sport is the highest dishonor in itself. No one made you judge of honor. And your views are not everyones.
You act as if my want to challenge for a title in itself is a betrayal....as if I was walking into your home and stealing a precious possession. I have challenged an honorable Baron, in an honorable fashion....can you not leave it so? Of course not. You must destroy me, because I disagree with you. I had forgotten this was a dictatorship now.
You do not even know what my intentions are should I win the ring...but still you run about pledging vengence and spewing hatred. You tire me. You disgust me....and I am a fool for having ever supported you. This is how you treat friends Dalamar. Not I. I maintained friendship with all that are mature enough to see it above actions or intent. You on the other hand seek to turn the ones I care about against me by using their loyalty
and friendship to you as an excuse to turn away from me. Bravo, the actions of a king they are not, more akin to the actions of a spoiled young heiress unhappy with her life and taking it out on her maids and playmates.
Enough with your words, oh Overlord, oh Lord and God of all you see, heir apparent to the mantle of the Cleric. You will test me. Because you are afraid, or because you have no respect for me....as you have no respect for many in this community. I care not. I will still challenge and I will either defeat you and the Baron or be defeated. I will still come. And should I win....I will come for you.....and you will Test me as a Baron. I
can almost guarentee this.
By the way, Excellent manipulation of Avery old man, you have now relieved yourself of breaking your word and you can now test him. One will notate that I will not be so easy to fool.
Have a wonderful day,

Have a wonderful day,
~I am,
~Adonai Uziel

Adonai--
For far too long you have called yourself an honorable man, when indeed you are not. You speak against the Overlord, calling him dishonorable, yet you continue to make jabs at him in writing. IN WRITING. Adonai, grow first a brain, then grow some courage, then come back when you can settle things in the ring, and not through this mess of papers. You expect to see Dal intercede? I hope he does... this entire time, you have done nothing but "talk"
on paper, getting in yer lil' jabs. Is that the kind of person worthy of a title? Is that an honorable person? I think not. For many months, you talked and talked and talked... and threatened, then turned yer back on someone you had so violently defended verbally before. And as soon as you lost the Baronial ring, you fled. Like a coward. You talked, but you never came through. Seems to me those are the only things you're good at... making
words look pretty while hiding insults to those who once could have called you friend. Maybe next time before you whine, you should consider yer own words, and see why people don't see you as worthy of a title.
But then, what do I know? I'm just around for peoples' amusement, aren't I? At least that's what you once so nicely pointed out.

>Does it bother you Dalamar that someone disagrees with you? That someone sees you as wrong and is strong enough within themselves to question you? I believe so, had these past words been anything near balderdash you would have done to me as you do to some many, patronize or ignore them.<
I remember when you and I had a disagreement on the boards, Adonai, Dalamar stepped in to your defense stating he does not agree with you, but that's what friends do; they disagree without having to fight. For reference of those who don't know what I'm talking about, or remember, this was when Adonai switched to Renegade alignment and invited a que of challenges.

In Dalamar's defense, Adonai, we all have opinions of what's honorable, and what's not. You state nobody made him the judge of honor, yet nobody made you the judge of what's petty. It's opinion.
Additively, if you issue challenge, post, or just say something someone disagrees with, the law of probability states at least one person will post an opposing view point. The laws are equally probable that the words will result in an attack if the person responding is defending a friend.
> By the way, Excellent manipulation of Avery old man, you have now relieved yourself of breaking your word and you can now test him. One will notate that I will not be so easy to fool.<
Either I am naive, or you are trying to add more fuel to a fire here, Adonai. Where and when did Dalamar say he was going to test him? How did Dalamar manipulate Avery? I am saying this as mildly as possible, because I don't want to return to slapping notes up back and forth in retorted attacks. However, you claimed loyalty to the overlord and that you'd protect his crown. Stating loyalty towards the crown, in my opinion, means you lay
your sword down to protect it.
If you truly wanted to duel Dal, you never had to challenge him to do so. That was your choice. It was that indulgence which, to my understanding, Dalamar doesn't like. If I'm wrong, I'm sure I'll be corrected.

Two points Adonai, after which I will stop posting in regard to this matter.
First off, I never ever looked up to you. Huma helped me with the basics in my early months within the Duel of Swords, yet you've always claimed to have been somehow responsible for my success, which I personally couldn't comprehend. Returning to Huma, I always regarded him as a friend, not a "hero," and he is still one of my better friends to this day.
My other question, who in the world are YOU calling unintelligible? Unlike some of us who like to use handwriting the size of a five year old's and write in blue marker, or whatever that is you use, I actually think out what I'm writing and how I write it. Might be a good idea for you to consider that some time, Hero.
