It's Not Over Yet

It was in his arms tonight that she'd felt the bright flame of passion spark to life once more. Whad had become a glowing ember between her and her late husband had started out like this, but had slowly cooled through the years.

Their love had been good, and strong, but it was also serene and, in the end, something she was used to. It made her complacent, and inactive. She'd lost her edge, her snap. She realized now why she'd become so soft -- her passion had waned.

Indeed, last night, after Sid's attack, and knowing that this was not the end, she had been ready to simply lay down and die. There was no more reason to fight, it was too hard to maintain sanity, and she'd not done a very good job of that lately. She knew that some of her behaviour had been inappropriate, and she was probably thought insensitive. In reality, she was just breaking up.

She asked Wil for cyanide. She knew he could get it, it was the least messy, and most effective way to die. It was also the quickest. But he wouldn't have it, somehow he let his ... aura is the only way she can describe it ... envelope and comfort her. His arms, his words, his presence, all began to touch the spark.

But now, now it was being fanned into a roaring inferno by Wil Savage. The passion erupting inside spread throughout her being. She felt stronger, more alert, more intense. She felt alive again, focused.

Khan Jorah may have won three battles, but he will NOT win the war.

She could not... no, she would not give in. Jaycy sat in her office, quietly contemplating her life as it stood. For far too long, she had been stuck in this cycle of self-pity and guilt. No more. So she couldn't talk... so she didn't have magick. She was alive, wasn't she? She had her family, didn't she? What had been wrong with her? Shaking her
head, only one thought came to mind. She was incredibly stupid.

But with a determined glance about the large office, another thought formed. "No more." Two simple words, yet with so much meaning. This could only make her stronger, she mused... after all, look how she had changed in this short time. No longer was she simply hinting at things she wanted, silently hoping they came to her. No, now she went after them, and damn the consequences. With a smile, she recalled the other night in the Arena... a smile
which changed to a slight frown all-too quickly. She *had* to get her voice back. Until then... it just couldn't happen. But she could almost say what she had now was enough... his acceptance. Well, things came with time. It was seeking what she wanted that was important to her. No more playing around... and soon she would be seeking something else. She *would* be ready.

She couldn't do much without help, but somehow, she was stronger through this. She knew who she was, and who her friends were, and knew she could... knew she would survive. Sid and Jola... they would too. They were more alike than she first thought, Jaycy mused. And she would win...

... They would win.

That morning, Clermont lay in his bed, one arm around Sara. He thought of the experiences of thre previous day. His cracked rib still throbbed underneath his nightshirt. The bleeding had stopped, the wound was starting to close. He had told the truth about that. It was just a scratch. His rib wasn't really all that bad.
He was more concerned about his friends. He knew that Jola was in terrible shape. She was trying to hide, but he really did know a lot of what she was feeling. He had seen her lose her challenge, but that was nothing. Then the loss of her husband, that was bad. He had lost 7 wives, four of them had died. He knew what it was like to lose a spouse.
Now her blindness. That was a terrible blow at the worst possible time. He had been seriously injured himself, he had lost his hearing after a blow to the head at the battle of Guingate. It had come back, but he knew what it was like to suffer such a frightening loss. But she wouldn't listen to him. He was sure of it. It would sound like he was just, blindly, trying to make her feel better.
Jaycy seemed to be holding up better. Maybe it was because she had not had such anguishing personal experiencs prior to the loss of her voice. Maybe she was just better at hiding her feelings from him. But she had seemed so happy, so excited when she asked him to wish her luck before her proposal to Rix. Even happier when he said yes to her.
Still, he worried about both of them. They were his friends. Two of his better friends, in fact. It had been their membership in HDT that had made up his mind to to join.
He didn't know what else was in store for them, but he would try to be there for them. He would do his best to help them. They were his friends.
He finished writing the letter to Jola, sending it off with Marcus immediately. He wished he had been able to tell her more.
*********************************************

Jola,

I have done as you requested regarding the party you wanted information about. Enclosed is what I have learned. To wit: nothing. Absolutely nothing. My apologies.

The ground was cold and slightly damp as he awoke. Nerve endings and pain screamed thru out his soul. His body laid in a prostrated position after rolling over a couple of times, wondering why. What had he just witnessed and battled? Why was it after Sid? He quickly gave up on thought as pain once again brought Evan back into reality.

Struggling to gain his ground, Evan had to use the near wall for support, seeing his was alone in this dark place. Yet, only mins ago, Dal was picking him up out of a hole, while Sid was somewhere off to a corner. From his recollection, he had no idea where Percy was due to his passing out. It all had happened to fast. The Arena was door was broken in and now he wakes up to this.

Evan's head pounded as he crawled up the basement steps, then eventually the Arena steps. His mind only set on getting help, which did not come along and he fell asleep in a near by bush. Just what had happened?

It's strange.
What is?
How much you miss when the world around you is silent.
Gods, yes...it is.

Sid lay in bed that night, watching the ceiling of the bedroom she shared with Dal. Silence pervaded her world, where it should have been filled with her lover's quiet breathing, the intermittent creak of the wooden bedframe under them, the hiss of fabric as they adjusted themselves for comfort during the night. Now, there was nothing. Nothing, that is, except this tiny voice in her mind that would not go away.

When are you going to tell him?
Tell him what?
Don't act stupid with me, you know what.
I can't tell him...it would hurt him too much.
How would you know?
I just do.

Slowly she rolled onto her side, carefull of the bandages around her midsection. With a slow and delicate hand, she brushed her fingertips down Dal's side, frowning when she got to the bandages binding his own wounds.

I should have gone alone. Now Percy, Evan and Dal are injured. It's all my fault.
And get yourself killed, or hurt worse than you are? Like that would hurt Dalamar less than any revelation you could drop on him? Get real, girl.
Get out of my head, dammit.

With a frustrated growl, Sid wrapped her arms around Dal's sleeping body and closed her eyes tightly. A few tears squeezed their way past her eyelashes, down her cheeks and splashed on Dal's shoulder.

I can't tell him.
Sure you can. What are you afraid of, the fact that you might hurt him with the news, or the fact that he might just leave you because you didn't take proper precautions to prevent it?
Shut up!
See? I knew I was right.
Not now. I won't tell him now.
But, if not now....when?
