To all ta DoS:

Tanight me Jeff done best ta Huma in a duel. It be about ta right ta Challenge, it be about ta right ta envoke rules ta secure a crown. Me Jeff put on ta line his ring, ta ring of ta 8th. He done strove ta keep it for this year, and be proud that finally it seemed he would make it. But tanight, for ta sake of the Over Lord, he lay it in ta ring.

And as most know, he won. He backed his words with steel and courage and I shall forever be kissed by his audacity, his honor. And so ta Huma done ta same, he gave up his right ta claim ta crown. He too was touched by honor.

Now it will be laid before ya all. Dal, whose reign will forever be marked with mystery and awe, was his abscence tonight justified. I side with the man who backed steel to his belief, my husband. The rest is left to you.

What I find disturbing in all of this, it's not that the Overlord was not there. Life can sometimes take you to a place you did not intend to go. It's not that Huma crossed his own words, that is disappointing in the highest degree.

What disturbs me most is that now that the rules call Dalamar to stand and be examined, they are unfair and people hide behind them. Yet this board shows any question of a challenge has seen the Baron's council to follow the letter of the law to the end of the harshest punishment on those that have not followed the letter of the law, no matter the mitigating circumstances. It sickens me that rules that have made and protected and grown this sport
are now being called hasty, questioned as being ill-made, and scoffed at. I stand with Dalamar on a time and consider it an honor, but this is not about Dalamar in my mind. It is about the past, the present, and the future of the Duel of Swords. It is about every Overlord that will stand and ever has stood before the mass of comoners that seek that crown. I stand in the rings under the precepts and the protection of those same rules and I hold
them dear. They do not bend for Jonalyn, or Jefferey, or Kalamere, or Helix, or even those that have been banished from our community. I do not seek to convince anyone that Dalmar should be unseated on a technicality, it should be a duel, between Dalamar and Huma, as it was intended to be, but to speak as if these same rules, that we each hide behind every time we enter the ring, are not equal to Overlord and Commoner, it disturbs me greatly.

I believe that Dalmar has acted honorably. He *has* followed the rules in this decision and will now stand before the council, as the rules state. The council will vote and the rules will be followed. It is the way of things and should we seek to alter it for one then it should be altered for all. The Deul of Swords is not about Dalamar but about the sport and each individual that takes part in it. I would hope that our emotions in this matter
could be cooled and we would all see that things are proceeding as they should and accpet and revel that such a matter can be handled as swiftly and judiciously as Baron AJ has promised they will be. No individual should ever becounted above the rules. None.

I for one am glad and proud that Dalamar has followed the rules as swiftly and as graciously as he has.

Brian,

Again, I agree with you.

I feel this must be compared to Arthur standing as judge to his wife. He believed that the law applied to all, and because her was her king and judge, couldn't stand as her champion, hence why Lancelot was chosen.
