>>Ah, but Huma was dueling with the assumption that he would win the ring were he to defeat Jeff.<<

We don't know if Jeff would have given the ring to him, since Jeff didn't lose.

Thing is, I was there, and I don't remember reading anything on Nych's lips about Huma getting the ring. As we can see now, the ring would have been abandoned within days anyway.

::ponders a moment, knowing he should stop posting on the boards, because everything he says will strike an argument. Reading over the words, he can't help but post::

I guess ye wouldn't know, but I am one of those less fortunate people living without money. I hunt for food, and can't treat myself to anything. I do not recall Dal living there, though, and that is why I said it was not a lot.

The thing is though, and I know I should stop saying it, because there is no way it will help, is that if I missed a match, I wouldn't get off as easy.

M'lord Baron Ajaybird has the blade, you may keep this as well. I will return of course, someday.....mayhaps after the stench of despite, like an open sewer fouling all around it, has left this place.
Until then...abide well duelists, and try to remember and recapture the friendship and comraderie this place once held.
I will be watching, for it is hard not to turn your eyes back to something you have loved as deeply as I have loved this Arena.

::posts a quick note::

The bottom line is this, for everyone that is still screaming, Sid especially, that what Dal and Huma got was what they both deserved.....I firmly disagree. Dalamar did not show up for a challenge match..he is the Overlord of the Duel of Swords, the Supreme Dueler as it were, and therefore should be required ABOVE ALL OTHERS to at least show up for his challenge match. Many times the point has been made that if it were a lesser dueler then he or she
would have suffered a great deal more than Dalamar did. I believe this to be true. The fact that the Overlord was fined ten thousand gold pieces is so trivial and worthless a punishment that it makes me laugh just to think of it. How in the name of all gods does ten thousand gold pieces fine affect the Duel of Swords or Dalamar's abilitity to participate within it? I'll tell you how...it doesn't. Not one iota. The council might as well have said that
Dalamar has been sentenced to ten hours peeling potatoes in the kitchen for all the good that did.
And the matter with Oakenshield and Huma....Huma lost an honor match with Oakenshield and that is all fine and good....everyone keeps trying to throw that into other's faces whenever Dal is brought up...well they shouldn't. What happened between Oakenshield and Huma was between them and no one else, has very little to do with the fact that Dalamar didn't show up for his match.
Dalamar's reign has been questioned in the past, and the decision made by the council on this occasion has merely added fuel to the flame. If there's any complaint about the state that the Duel of Swords is in now, don't blame it on the newcomers...blame it on those that are responsible....everyone knows that the last few months haven't been the most honorable or noteworthy by any means. I won't retire, like many others have done, because I
participate in the DoS for the thrill of the sport...but this is my opinion, which I don't voice very often, but I felt the time had come.
Quite frankly I find it sickening.

Why don't we all just pack up and go. Why not just go away and return when this all goes away as if we're in a dream, caught in the middle of some nightmare? How about every dueler leave the sport they love just because they are tired of the politics?

I have such a good time dueling, you know? I prefer winning, and I don't like being read like a book, but that happens. I don't like how the decision came out, I don't like this person, that person, this chair, that chair, but I'm still here. I regret abstaining in phase II, when I had a chance to vote. I should have said my piece and showed how strongly I believed in what I felt was right.

Who else wants regrets? Who else feels the duels, the boards, the world is a waste of time? Why live when your're not immortal? Why glance at some scenery, when you know you will eventually have to look away?

I know I have had my share of debates, opinions, and arguments on these boards. Chances are I'll have a few more debates, and opinions. I don't feel it's those which get people angry, or cause people to leave.

Why should I write this post, when anyone can just come up and write something about it, which is intended to start an argument? Why do people challenge for a rank, when they know they will be challenged soon, and they may lose their title?

The answer is simple. Every dueler duels for one reason or another. Some do it for glory, for fun, for socialization. It's why people live; to glorify themselves in some way, to see something funny, or to find someone they love. Why am I writing this? Hopefully it will open the eyes of those who are planning to leave, or those already left because they don't like it here. I also hope one day that my childred take part in this sport where I
have a good time dueling.

So if you are leaving a sport you love, because of others, never glance at something you wouldn't want to look away from. Never challenge for a rank if you plan to keep it forever. Everything has shortcomings, people of the Duel of Swords. I know it, and I voice my opinion. I'll do a lot because of something I don't like in this sport, but one thing I'm not going to do, is leave.

That's all I have to say.

::reads through the posts. Tacks his humble bit of parchment up with an obsidian sliver::

It would seem things have changed in the four years I've been absent. A council indeed? I will add only this... a duel is only a duel and a forfeit even less. The decision has been made clear and apparent to all. We must all remember one cannot look to the next match until you've left the last match/forfeit behind. Take what you've learned in politics with you, for the Overlord must someday fall and your reign may be the next.

Alright, I'll concede to that point.

The thing is though, and I know I should stop saying it, because there is no way it will help, is that if I missed a match, I wouldn't get off as easy.

None of us would know that until it happens, will we?

>The bottom line is this, for everyone that is still screaming, Sid
>especially, that what Dal and Huma got was what they both deserved.....I
>firmly disagree.

I don't remember ever screaming, but I do remember stating my opinion. You happen to disagree with that opinion, and you are entitled to that.

>Dalamar did not show up for a challenge match..he is the Overlord of the Duel
>of Swords, the Supreme Dueler as it were, and therefore should be required
>ABOVE ALL OTHERS to at least show up for his challenge match.

Why should anyone be required more than anyone else?

>Many times the point has been made that if it were a lesser dueler then he or
>she
>would have suffered a great deal more than Dalamar did. I believe this to be
>true.

I disagree. I'm sure that the Council would decide on a case by case situation, not a rank by rank situation.

> The fact that the Overlord was fined ten thousand gold pieces is so trivial
>and worthless a punishment that it makes me laugh just to think of it.

I'm sure Dalamar would not object to you paying such a "trivial" and "worthless" sum of money instead. Ten thousand gold seems to be pocket change to you anyway.

>How in the name of all gods does ten thousand gold pieces fine affect the
>Duel of Swords or Dalamar's abilitity to participate within it? I'll tell you
>how...it doesn't. Not one iota. The council might as well have said that
>Dalamar has been sentenced to ten hours peeling potatoes in the kitchen for

I'm sure the charities that the money would go to would strongly disagree on that fact.

>And the matter with Oakenshield and Huma....Huma lost an honor match with
>Oakenshield and that is all fine and good....everyone keeps trying to throw
>that into other's faces whenever Dal is brought up...well they shouldn't.

I'll leave it up to those in charge to make that decision.

>What happened between Oakenshield and Huma was between them and no one else,
>has very little to do with the fact that Dalamar didn't show up for his
>match.

In a way, I agree.

>Dalamar's reign has been questioned in the past, and the decision made by the

Who in the world would blame it on the newcomers?

You're entitled to, but don't accuse others of "screaming" just because their opinion differs from yours.

Charities, whatever....Like I said Sid, and I'll say again since you obviously didn't get the picture before...The punishment Dal recieved has absolutley no..NO..effect on the DoS or his ability to duel within it.

Dem, thank the gods DoS is closing because you seriously need to learn that there's more important things in life than this damned sport! So, while the DoS is closed, go outside, see the real world beyond the doors of the Arena.
