The Winds of Change

::tacks up a short note::

To the entire DoS community,
I am but a humble newcomer, a swordsman (when new standings are posted), and an unknown to nearly all of you. But I'd like to share my idea on how to improve the current shape of DoS. Upon thinking about how the current state of DoS could be improved, I recalled a way I had once heard of to heal out of control politics. I believe the best thing that could happen to DoS is a sweeping change. I say, stick a sword in and let the pus run out. By
changing the leadership of DoS a little bit, I believe the problems could be solved. I have nothing against Dal, I don't even know him, but perhaps someone new who hasn't even gotten involved with these politics could gain some control of DoS. The Duel of Swords needs somebody now who isn't a great debater, but someone who is an exceptiional leader......someone new and fresh.

::chuckles at the post::

Let the puss run out? Sounds like an interesting idea. Now if DoS were only a sore...

Once again, if you want change, gain the skill to make it yourself. If you want Dal out, Challenge him and defeat all he puts against you. Otherwise it's just talk.

"I want Change, Dall needs to go, blah blah blah."

I've heard it all before and I really don't think the problem lies with Dalamar, it's with people who complain about everything.

Fact is, Dalamar is Not the reason DoS is so screwed up. It's because of the newer rookies who have no respect at all for the Grand History that DoS offers. They don't care, and they make this place what it is today. An annoyance in the realm of Rhydin.

If you want DoS to improve, we should get rid of those mindless twits who care nothing for the duels. They have No Heart for dueling, they care not for respect of fellow duelers, just themselves. They are selfish and pathetic in my eyes.

If you're insulted by my words, then more than likely you are one of the people I am talking about.

Gnort,
I agree totally that Dal is not the problem, I never said he was. I just think that some kind of change must take place. I am trying to gain in skill and rank so that I may aid the change. I think you need to remeber though, that we all must start somewhere and just because someone is low in rank doesn't mean that they don't have a right to voice their opinion. You said that we have no respect for other duelers whereas you just plainly disrespected
my opinion. Everyone should remember that although the low ranking duelers, like myself, can be annoying and ignorant sometimes, they make up quite a large portion of the DoS community and deserve to be treated with respect.

Gnort darlin~~~

While I don't disagree with most of what you said, I do take exception to wanting to be rid of some of the newer duelists....
It wasn't that terribly long ago that I, too, was one of those newer duelists. The only difference is that I arrived in RhyDin at a time when many of the older and more experienced duelists were willing to take a new arrival under their wing and help them to learn the Grand History of this place we love so dearly.... To educate them, as it were, to understand tradition, respect and honor.
If I had been treated as poorly as I see so many newer duelists being treated, I can safely say that I wouldn't have remained here. I'd moved on to another realm with no regrets at all. The loss would have been mine.... but I would like to think that I've added to the community enough that some would say as well that the loss would also have been RhyDin's.....

Just something to think about.....

Khrys, those I said to get rid of were the mindless twits that care nothing for the duels. I agree that there are some who are worth attention, but the majority aren't worth the time and effort to educate because they simply don't care. And that's a fact.

OorTael,

I never said that You have no respect, I said that Most of the newer duelers have no respect, and thats the truth. When one of the new punk kids acts in a respectable manner, then maybe he'll gain respect from me.
Rule Number ONE. Respect is NOT given, it is Earned!

Just because you -think- you deserve respect doesn't mean that you really do.

You want me to respect duelers simply because they make up the DoS community? Sorry, Not gonna happen. Many of them don't deserve much let alone my respect. When they earn my respect is when I'll give it. Not simply because they duel.

Respect of a duelers skill and respect of a duelers personality are two very different things. Do not confuse them.

I'll agree that DoS needs some big changes, but changing the overlord ain't what the answer is. Sure, a lot of these punks need a swift hard kick to the teeth, but that won't stop them from coming back for more.

I'm thinking it's the RDI's that were deputized by the proprietor of the Inn to keep things orderly. As my sister likes to say, "it's time for some spring cleaning."

::steps up on the soapbox::

Frankly, I'm a little disgusted. Every time I hear veterans of DoS talk they mange to sneak into the conversation how disrespectable and illmannered rookies are. I'm not blaming anyone in particular, but I think the new people should be presumed innocent of any wrongdoing until proven guilty. I also think that if the people who've been here awhile would shutup and fight then we'd learn "honor" and "respect" for the rings. Just like when
you deal with children, rook's learn by example. Instruction is okay, but not without a good role model. That is all for now, until I think of something else to rag about.

PS. Oh, yeah, I'm not trying to make enemies,
just stating how things are from my view.

Just so you know, I've tried to lead by example, the ones who are guilty of being the wretches of the arena just don't learn or care. That's what the problem is. You cannot teach someone to care. If you could, then perhaps this place would be better.

Again, I'm not pointing any fingers either. But if you are taking offense to this, then perhaps you should look at yourself and see what the problem is.

Aye now Khrys luv, I think I am in dire need of one of those fine elfin wings to crawl under.

Good sir G'nort would ye be telling us how many common chicks you have under your own wing? This isn't intended as a harsh rebuff, but rather I'm looking for a warm place to crawl under...please don't put it against me if I hold out for the Lady a bit.

Ha ha... I'm going off subject but I found it kinda interesting the way Gnort avoided pointing an accusatory finger at me and still did it all within one post. Well, I don't have anything too constructive to say, and maybe you didn't mean to make it look like that, but it does.

Care to point a few fingers Chal Trev? Maybe you could get a posse together and run them off since you believe it be best.

This guy has sounded more respectable than many others Gnort, perhaps yje problem lies not with the newer duelists, but the old duelists not treating the younger properly? This lad here has tried to respectably state an opinion. Though I do not agree with him, he is still worth the time to listen. Now, might you think that perhaps our standards for how a duelist presents himself is too high? We seem to dismiss many duelists these days and not look
back upon them until they are challenging Warlords. Perhaps you should spend more time teaching than writting posts.

I speak just not to you Gnort, but most people in general. Perhaps personal morallity should be set aside when dealing with someone new and inexperanced.

No, Damien,

I have no problem with this person either. He appears to be intellegent, well thought out, and yes, respectable. From what I've seen, is that he's a rarity of the new influx of duelers that have arrived into the DoS. I am one to easily give respect to others, but only if they deserve it. If In my -opinion- they do not, then they don't get it.

Some are better than others, and that's the truth. I was new too once, and I wasn't given any respect right off. I had to earn it myself. That's what these new guys need to do. And so far, very few deserve it.

Perhaps the older duelists don't treat the new ones with respect for good reason. You can't teach those who don't wish to learn. Even fewer wish to learn.

Oh, and believe me. I have a nice list of Older Duelists whom I don't respect, as well. Because they don't deserve it. I may respect their skills, which is the truth. BUt their skill has nothing to do with a respect for their personality.

Keep that in mind, please.

Thank you for listening. And no, this isn't meant as an attack this time, it's a post of how I feel.
