As the mystic speaks to mahiya the horse seems to be uneasy........
<<she isn’t moving quick enough her new ties are keeping her , you must let her know she
can come back but she must make it to me before her heritage and answers die and are
lost forever with me .>>
<< you sent the dream ? you sent the note?>>
<<yes she must follow it ! she must come! we don’t have much time !>>
<<she is afraid ....she has been with out the answers for so long she doesn’t know what
will change or how the truth will make her feel.>>
Mahiya acting very strange to Amanda looking as if she wanted to bolt.
“what is it Mahiya?”
Looking into the horses eyes she know the answers.
“ It’s time ....I know “
Pulling the note from her saddle bag she sighed..
“ I was so excited when we found this note, my dream was so vivid .I have not seen
Katrina it what seems to be a life time her pull is so strong.”
Mahiya trotting in place ...
“you feel her too don’t you “ she said already knowing the answer.
Trot......Trot.....Trot..........
“ you have spoken to her “ she asked excitedly
Trot.......Trot.....
Lightly Mahiya nudged Amanda close to the saddle . Searching her mind thinking of all
the questions that are unanswered .
Trot......Trot....
“there is no time to look back is there ?”
Pacing back and forth looking about ,” what should I bring ?”
Sitting on a bale of hay she started to sob.....
“It is time I must leave a note for Ken ......when will I be back ??..... I don’t know”
Swaying back and forth mahiya grunts ........
Amanda looks at her sighing “I know ...I know”
Penning a note she rides off with Mahiya to leave her note on the ancient boards sealed
with one word on the front .....Ken..........
After riding with mahiya for a while she relises she has no idea where she is going but
mahiya seems to know which comes as a great relief to her, giving her much time to think.
Closing her eyes tightly she tries hard to see if she can wake from this dream. Opening
them she found herself still riding on mahiya ,her mind swimming she knows this is not a
dream.
Several hours later Amanda sees what appears to be air swirling in the shape of a door
with no walls around it .Mahiya trotting faster grunted and jumped through the door .
As they emerged they found themselves in a grassy meadow .Looking back Amanda saw
the another door she hoped would not go away. Mahiya not stopping rushed on.

As they rode on Amanda became aware of her surroundings knowing she had been
here before .In the distance was a small cottage Amanda knew then that’s where they were
headed .With excitement she started to laugh...”Katrina she is still here”
Fond thoughts of the wonderful flowers so brilliant with color every color one could
imagine ,the smell the inspiring aroma of flowers and the herbs which sent’s danced on her
nose as she sat in the garden daydreaming of what life had in store for her .Smiling almost
being able to taste the tea from the garden that she and Katrina and shared on the porch
while listening to Katrina tell her stories of the past ....her past under the moon light .
All these memories had her smiling in her daydream.

As they grew near her excitement turned to fear , fear for a woman who was her only link
to this place . As the cottage came closer into view she tried to keep hope but she could
not deny the sights .Looking about at the over grown keep she wondered what had
happened could Katrina have been away for so long ? What about her teas her medicines ?
Knowing Katrina would not let this happen to her home she searched the land for signs of
the flowers, for herbs she took a deep breath and sighed there were no glorious sent’s.
Tears welling in her eyes Amanda jumped off mahiya and ran to the cottage
.The door flying open frantically she called to the woman who was everything to her
.KATRINA,KATRINA? running to the bedding room she saw her .The woman Amanda
had always looked to for strength lay in her bed a mere shell of her vibrant self. Her mind
thinking in a swirl she thought of the armor she had worn to keep from harm yet no armor
could have protected her from this wound. Losing all her strength she dropped to the floor
sobbing. Sobbing she could hear the woman as if in a dream...

through choking tears Amanda replied “O NO you said when it was the right time,It’s not
the right time!I’m not ready”
“come her my child we don't have much time “came the woman's voice weaker then the
time before. you must be strong now you have prepared you are ready to handle the
truths you must learn ....You are the Lady of Gold child.” the woman's voice trailed off to
weak to say more.
Moments of silence that felt like hours went by as Amanda gathered her strength to face
what she had been able to push aside all her life. The only person she had been able to
count on was dying. Moving to her bedside Amanda tried to be strong.
“Katrina why now? Why must you leave me? So many new things are happening to me
. I am meeting friends learning a sport of dueling .”
The two sat for hours catching up on all that had come to pass in Amanda's travels. She
talked mostly of her new friends and the people she had meet in rhydin.
Katrina smiling said “listen child it is true I am dying .”
Amanda started to sob again ,”it is my time child by human standards I have long past the
time to pass over .”
Amanda started to protest knowing it was of no use “NO you are not to be judged by
human standards. You can go on as you have before chose to stay please ,” she begged.
“sit child” the old woman said calmly .....”It is my time child ...I have been here to long I
must make room for younger souls to come take my space here. I have made my decision
and now it is almost time .”
Amanda stared blankly at her memorizing her face as it was now, even now the beauty and
the loveliness of this woman still took her breath away. Taking a deep breath Amanda
thought of a million questions she wanted to ask Katrina .
“you will have your answers and more .” Katrina said seeming to read her mind smiling
she looked to Amanda “now it is time for rest child you have been on a long ride and I am
very weak we will talk more in the morning .”
Amanda sat quietly till the woman fell asleep in her mind she could see a
million things go by and nothing at all what was she to make of this? Where ever she
traveled or how far she had gone Katrina was there .....
In her mind she wondered how selfish she was being, she had not even asked if Katrina
was in pain.
Leaving the room Amanda started to sob again ... If Katrina was in pain was there
something she might do, how long had she been in pain? Rolling out her bed roll she
thought of all the things she would learn now, drifting off to sleep she prayed she was
ready.

Amanda's night was filled with dreams, as she tossed and turned visions of people ran
through her head. Thrashing about she fought to see their faces as hard as tried to focus
none of the faces came to view.
Startled she jumped awake sweating. Looking around taking a deep breath she
realized she was at Katrina's and laid back down. As she closed her eyes the people were
all still there with faces that couldn't be seen. Why couldn't she see the faces? who were
they? As she thought letting thoughts drift in and out of her mind of who they could be
hour by hour went by. When the sun rays started to show it was clear time for sleep gone
as was the night.
Sighing Amanda rose from her bedroll, her whole body was engulfed by a stretch almost
toppling over she laughed to herself and did a few more controlled stretches before heading
to the wash bin. As she washed and dressed thoughts of the day and what it might bring
roamed her mind. She knew for certain she needed to clear her mind before she sat with
Katrina.
As she had done so often she found herself at Mahiya’s side brushing her as Mahiya ate
trying to get a clearer head. Amanda just couldn't get the dream out of her mind. jumping
on Mahiya hopping to gallop it out of her mind. She rode all through the meadow feeling
the air rush against her face blowing her hair back she started to focus.
Reaching the edge of the meadow she found an array of flowers, jumping off Mahiya she
dropped to her knees and smelled them knowing Katrina would love them she collected as
many as she could carry and jumped back on Mahiya. As she rode back to the much
calmer smiling knowing her head was clear and she could face the faces she could not see.
Looking across the meadow the greens were a wonder to her the tree leaves shades darker
then the knee high blades of grass conjuring images of times past the smell of fresh wild
flowers she use to love to wear in her hair as a young girl dreaming of the prince that
would come to her already in love with her, Flowing with sweet words that would take
her breath away. The prince she would be everything to for the rest of her life.

In the distance she could see the cottage again .Amanda smelled the bouget so her
spirit wouldn't sink to the deepest point of her being as it had the night before. She found
it easier to view this time but not sure why had she come to accept it? was she just not in
shock anymore? What ever it was she was glad for it.
As Amanda approached the cottage she saw Katrina sitting on the porch in a rocking chair
covered with a blanket Amanda had made many moons ago. She couldn't help but smile
seeing the woman had kept it all these years.
Katrina too was smiling seeing the young Elven woman. As Amanda dismounted Mahiya
she thanked her trusted and loyal companion.
Turning to the cottage flowers in hand she smiled “I found these and they reminded me of
you “she said
Katrina stretched out her very small hollow hand to take them. oh how she loved flowers
so very much, with her imagination and her nose Katrina breathed in the aroma and the
colors were so alive.”child these are as much a wonder as you thank you, fix us some tea
and we will talk,” all the while she was telling herself she had been though much she could
handle a conversation. Taking a deep breath she brought the tea to the porch and set it on
the table so she could pull her chair closer to Katrina looking to Katrina she smiled.
“child you have nothing to fear some of what I have to tell you is sad but what you fear
now is the unknown when you know you will see. One thing for I have to stress is you will
be fine child you know it as well as I ,”
“yes I know .” Amanda said in an unsure tone “I am ready I have started a life I like and
want to get back to but I can't until all is how it should be here 'tears welled in her eyes
knowing this would be her last visit with Katrina .
“ Don't cry for me child I want to go now, it is time to put this very old and weary body
to rest. Make no mistake I choose this time ,”
“are you in pain ,” Amanda suddenly blurted out trying to choke back the tears that
threatened to flood at anytime .
“ no I am not in pain, I am weak but not in pain. I am at peace child .” Katrina looked to
the young Elven woman before knowing that it was a good time for this, glad Amanda had
something somewhere she liked and wanted to return to.
The women sat in silence Amanda comprehending and relieved Katrina was not in pain.
She could not understand why anyone would want to die. Katrina seeming to read her
mind started to speak again “you will not find another human who has lived as long as I
and can still die, I have completed everything I ever wanted I cannot be selfish and stay
around because I wanted to with no goal in mind. I promised your father, your parents
that when you and I were ready I would join them on the next plain and that time is now.”
Amanda seemed to be tugged at as her parents were mentioned Katrina noting that
thought well this is as good a place to start as any.
“Your parents and I were very good friends I was one of the only humans they trusted. I
sat by your mother side through all of her births .”
“BIRTHS?”
Smiling Katrina continued yes there were six of you .”
Amanda's mind swirled she had never thought herself to have siblings in her mind a
thousand questions formed at once running all together she did not know which to ask
first. Katrina held her hand up to silence Amanda before she got the chance .
“ you were all scattered about to family in other villages for safety you are the only one
left ,” tears welling up Amanda tried to think of who or what would want to harm her
family.

“your parents loved each and every one of you and your chances were better if you were
split up .It was a very trying time in the life of all of us who stayed here .” now almost
speaking to herself .”these meadows littered with young elven warriors ..This loving place
wher your ancestores danced and played freely was now scattered with still bodies that
had seen their last dance ,their last breath . you were but a baby at the time three or four
when the humans attacted .” Katrinas own eyes filling with tears .”your mother and fater
kept all of you together as long as they could but when the danger became to much your
mother made plans for your brothers and sisters to be taken to other villages .” looking
down in a low voice she said “ they didn’t make it past the road before they were
ambushed.”
Amanda sat wide eyed not knowing what to think or say “why was I not givin away?”
“because child you were to young , your mother could not bear to spend her last hours
with out her Amanda ,you were the child no one thought would come to be .After your
mother gave birth to your sister she was thought not to be able to have anymore children
,not even your fathers magic could help.
We tended to you and kept you far below the ground I was with you when your mother
couldn’t be .”
Amanda tried to focus on the words of katrina but it seemed as they came out another
question formed in her mind.She fought the day dream of what it was like then ,what had
happened and why ? she could feel the tears well again.
There was a long pause of silence and Katrina could sence it was time to give Amanda the
one thing her parents had left for her . with soft eyes taking note to the overwhelmed
young woman in front of her Katrina put her hand on amandas knee.
“your parents left you your legacy .”
Amandas eyes met the womans and her confusion was apparent .”wait here child .”
Katrina got up slowly and moved to the door .
Amanda sat staring off stunned trying to think of what they might have left her . why
hadn’t she had it before now? why weren’t her sibilings kept under ground with her ? why
did they have to be sent away ?Amanda sighed rubbing her eyes to try to get things clear
slumping back in frustration for a long while she waited in silence for Katrina to return.
Katrina being old and dying found the orb to be heavier then it was one hundred and sixty
years ago when it was placed in her possesion along with amanda the day before
Amanda’s parents died.Strugling with the orb she stopped several times on her way back
to the porch .
Knowing Amanda would be fine once all was asorbed this was a strong young lven
woman she had watched her grow but for the first time Katrina questioned the timing of
her death and wondered if she should have postponed it untill Amanda was further along
in her knowledge of the past .There was no time to question it now she had to trust this
was how it must be .With one final trip she made it back to the porch .Amanda jumped as
katrina broke the silence ,they both had to giggle . Before Katrina sat again she handed
Amanda the orb relieved that she didn’t have to carry it any more .

Amanda stared at it in awe magic had never been an instrument that Amanda used daily it
had been all around her and she knew most likely to change, looking to Katrina any doubt
was now gone. Katrina looked very serious.” Child this is yours, your parents left it with
me to give to you ,” pausing to make sure Amanda comprehended what she said she
pointed to the orb. “That holds your parents last hours. You may see them and the tail of
your history ,” pausing again she looked into Amanda's eyes taking a deep breath she
started again ,”you can take your time and looking in this you will find the answers to all
your questions .” Amanda stared in disbelief at the orb trying to find her voice struggling
to form her question “why, ......why now.......why are you giving this to me now? Why
haven't I had it before ?”
Katrina waiting for this question for decades looked deep into Amanda's eyes for the first
time she started to cry ,”because child the time was not right, you needed to be ready
. Your parents were not sure when that time would be so your father made many potions
for me to allow me to age similar to the Elven race and he gave me one for when you were
ready that would bring me back to human old age. As he promised it does not hurt and I
am ready. Your parents were wise loving people. My last reason for being here is now
complete you have the orb watch and learn child. your parents made sure you would have
them and know what happened.
Before Amanda had time to ask another question the woman reminded her she was the
lady of gold and closed her eyes. Amanda sat for a long time looking at the woman
waiting for her eyes to open again. Slowly the realization of what was happening crept into
Amanda's mind for moments she could do nothing but stare at the woman looking for a
breath that was not to come. feeling Mahiya nudge her seemed to trigger her to reality as
the violent heaving tears started with in minutes she was crying with every inch of her
body and soul.

Amanda cried for hours till sleep overcame her, Mahiya watched over her the whole
night.
When the rays of sun kissed the meadow Amanda woke to birds chirping all around her
taking a moment to a mental stretch. Amanda now focused on Katrina once again the
woman was still there the way she had been before Amanda had drifted off. It was now
undeniable. Fighting the urge to weep herself to sleep again Amanda brought her self to
her feet.
In a daze Amanda tended to Mahiya half talking to Mahiya half to herself she mumbled
and asked questions about all that had happened in the past few days.
Spending a lot of time shaking her head in disbelief Amanda started the task of digging a
grave for Katrina she could not just leave the woman who was so much a life force to her
sit in a chair after passing on. She could not eat or sleep now so it didn't take long to
finish digging. Amanda stopped when she was again in front of Katrina. She dropped to
her knees her head clasping in the woman's lap she held her tight sobbing she told the
woman she loved her. well over an hour went by before her grasp loosened standing she
took a deep breath she picked the woman up praying she didn't drop her she carried
Katrina over to the spot she had dug. Laying the woman down very carefully Amanda
stopped to cry again feeling she would not have the strength to cover the woman with the
pile of earth, she sighed, picked up the shovel and put Katrina's eternal blanket over her.
Going in to the cottage Amanda found the flowers she had picked from the meadow
feeling it was only right Katrina loved flowers she laid them down one by one.
Standing there Amanda looked around for a long while not sure what she was to do next
looking down her question was answered. Scratching her head she knew she could not
continue without a bath. thinking it might just be what she needed all around she headed
to the cottage. Thankful the fire was still going she put a few pots of water over it to heat
laundering she looked around to see if any of quatrains wonderful bath herbs were still here
, finding containers of sage and rose petals she emptied them in and then the hot water.
Sinking into the water trying to soak the day away she was emerged washing her
hair in the sage and rose reminded her of Katrina preparing her baths whenever she
needed it and washing her hair Katrina had always been there what would she do now?
Amanda still in the tub long after it had gone cold found herself almost a prune stepping
out she opened the hole in the floor and the slot in the basin to let the water drain.
drying she felt cleansed giggling as she put on a lotion of chamomile and rose all over her
Katrina would always be there she thought, brushing hoer hair she felt as if she would be
able to move on she started to think more of Katrina picking her time of death and of her
father a man she could not remember making sure she had Katrina well into her life
. Smiling at how lucky she was she wondered how she felt so alone before. Opening a
closet in the common room of the cottage Amanda had to stop before her was a gown of
golden silk that took her breath away taking it out she knew it would fit she tried it on and
it was perfect as if made for her feeling refreshed she walked around looking at all the
charming things that showed Katrina as if she could still tell a tale. looking about she found
a note with her name on it ................Amanda..............................

My dearest Amanda I had no children of my own but I do consider you to be
my daughter as well as your parents. I have passed now and as you
look around know that this is my gift to you.
Before I drank my last potion I prepared many of the teas and lotions you loved as child
you will find them here along with many other special things
On many of them I left a note with instructions.
This is now your home to come and go as you please
everything in it is yours.

Amanda looking around the cottage remembered the days long ago when she had dreamed
of living on her own as an adult. This was the place she saw, this was where she pretended
when Katrina was out and now it was hers to do as she saw fit how strange it felt.
Amanda decided she would pack up a few things and
head back to rhydin. She was feeling like she wanted to be with people and there was
surly no one here.
She put her hair up in a pony tail high on top of her head in a gold cone shaped comb
her pointed ears showing taunt against her head. A necklace caught her eye it was of
malachite that glowed slightly putting it on it appeared to be normal with no glow to it but
she felt different. taking a glance in the looking glass she found herself looking different
, not older but more mature. As she walked toward the door she garbed the small bag she
had packed and the pouch with the orb was in till she was ready to look in it and left
, jumping on Mahiya Amanda took one more look about stopping at Katrina earthen Bed
she smiled “I love you too Katrina thank you “Riding back the direction she had come in at relieved she saw the portal was
still there. As Mahiya jumped through it Amanda too knew she would be OK.
