That banner replaced as touched by one before to examine the stone covered, oh it was something that could have touched him to effect his mood.

Strange and odd ways come when fairies and imps come to play. Touched by heaven perhaps... or an Arch Angel.

Words often recalled in whispers of the mind to any that touch that viridian and white banner.

Crown o'three,
Blessing thee.
Heaven's gate
Nae too late.
Guard the one
Seal the stone.
Honor bound
The eldest found.
Cross o'steel
T'wil bring one tae kneel.
Kiss the curse
Fill thine purse.
Treasures bliss and merry bound.
Again the second one be found.
Glory of three
And one might see
Three crown, three gold
And wisdom to hold.

Save was that banner, cursed to follow any to remove, to stone they would turn and soul to burn. Only one could raise it as was her right lest only one to bring it's from it's place, as too her right.

The Piper returned to check on that banner, knowing... yes knowning... revenge to come soon. The Cleric ah he too had none the idea of what was to come.

A nod to Marcus and Hubie before she left. Ah a strange one she heard then murmuring as the door pulled closed.

Auritan smiled as he prepared to retire after the long evening. It had been easier, although he had experienced new sensations. There had been a challenge match. He had sat through it, alone in the corner of the Annex, maintaining an outwardly calm composure. But inwardly... the sensations were heightened. He didn't know if it was due to the large number
of people who attended the event, or if it was due to some characteristic of this particular duel.

The Ward had reacted in a different manner than before. The healing was still there, but the taste in his mouth had changed. The coppery taste of blood had been there with each strike, but there had been a thickening of the saliva and there had been a hint of sweetness to each swallow. How he wished he knew more about this Ward.

Later in the evening, he had wandered into the Arena to watch the duelists in their frays. Another new sensation! There was this one fellow... when he would duel and strike, Auri had tasted the bitterest of bile. It was horribly bad, and he didn't understand the connection. But he would... someday. He had wandered away from the Arena after that, trying to find some drink that wouldst wash the bitter taste from his mouth.

Later yet, he had roamed back into the Arena, and had experienced his third new sensation for the day. He had found his friend and teacher, Shadowsiv at the bar, slumped and feeling ill. His compassion must have triggered the Stone, for as he had reached out to touch Shadow's forehead, the jewel's aura shewn brightly as before and had touched the man, seeming to offer him ease from his malady. It had not been the same feeling as of old though.
The Ward had been involved, and there had lingered a strange sense of approval that came neither of the Stone or the Ward.

He paused for a moment, kneeling beside his pallet before he lay down. A look of some puzzlement crossed his face as he strove to grasp a fleeting thought. There was somethin he was supposed to remember... He was sure of it. It was there, just out of reach in his memory, something important he was sure.

He shrugged and shook his head as he lay down... Someday he would remember. He just hoped it wouldn't be too late...

He woke to the Pain! His eyes opened wide as his lungs gasped for breath. His attempt to cry out was futile... there was no air!

He clasped his hands to his chest ---- the Pain! It was more than he could endure! He fled inwardly from the onslaught... allowing his mind and body to succumb to the blissful oblivion of unconsciousness.

~ % ~

He awoke to the memory of the pain... his hands involuntarily reaching to his chest.

As he came fully awake, he realized that the burning sensation had disappeared. Had it been a dream? Nay, the memory was too vividly real! As he lay there, his finger traced the lump on his breastbone that had been its source.

He thought of the pain and shuddered. His hand went for the Stone, as he subconsciously sought its comfort. Bare moments passed as the realization hit him. The Stone!

In a panic, he groped for the jewel and the chain around his neck... and his fingers came away empty. He rolled off the pallet to a kneeling position and wildly searched the bed clothes - in vain. He ripped off his shirt, shaking it furiously, then patting down his trousers. A sinking feeling of impending disaster overcame him as he continued his panicked and fruitless search. His mind was racing, trying to recall events. Had he dropped it
somewhere? Could he drop it? Surely he would have known...

He was in such a state of panic that it almost didn't register on his brain... the now familiar, but still intense jab of feeling... followed by the pulse and the soothing sensation of healing.

Well, it *almost* didn't register... but it managed to catch his attention... restore a small portion of his reasoning ability... help him regain control.

He took a deep breath and banished the disorder from his mind. Once again in full control, he shut his eyes and turned inward. He relaxed somewhat as he sensed the Ward... and sensed the Stone.

He maintained the kneeling position for several moments, composing himself mentally. His breathing slowly returned to normal as he calmed. He opened his eyes. With another deep breath, he stood.

There it went again... Auri allowed himself a small smile. There were duelists in the House!

He looked down at his bare chest... to the source of the warm pulse. The emerald! His finger traced its outline on his chest. Confused, but yet relieved, he studied the jewel that was stuck to - no, attached to - no, protruding from - no... Drat! He couldn't see!

He moved to the small reflecting glass that hung above the basin to study the phenomenon. It seemed to be implanted in his breastbone somehow. From the top of the jewel, his finger traced an image of the chain, up and around his neck, like a tattoo. His curiosity had totally overcome the panicky feelings that he had experienced only moments before, as he studied the jewel, both from without and within.
