Challenge

Overlord, Barons, Officials, Patrons,

I do hereby challenge the Overlord Dalamar Ar'Daumon for the right to wear the crown of the duel of swords. Many perhaps know my reasons, but I shall still list them below.

One reason is that I find Dalamar to be unloyal. This may relate back to such past experiences when I was a commoner, and to the more closer past as when he failed to show for his challenge against Huma. Also, I feel that my brother was cheated out of his challenge, and I do hereby wish to bring right into this matter. Politically wise, I appose much of what Dal stands for. I appose the right of intercession, for I see it that the Baron does
not get to defend that title him/herself. Also, Dal summons Champions to fight the warlords that face him. I also find this dishonorable, it being that if he is truly named the supreme dueler, then he should be able to defeat a warlord. Another thing, although this is no more, is that Dal used to summon Champions against Barons.
Well enough of that. I also challenge to prove the skills of my blade. If Dalamar is truly the supreme dueler, and it is the Overlord who holds that title, than I wish to defeat him and gain the title myself.
Many of you may find this challenge dishonorable, but I feel it may be the best thing I have done in a while.

Duel well Dalamar

Magnus,

It seems you aren't challenging the Overlord, really. You're challenging the rules of the Duel of Swords and the rights of the Overlord.

Forgive me.

Unloyal? Unloyal to whom? I think this is a case where you're not sure of what you're thinking about. His reasons for not showing to face Huma were his Loyalties to his Family. Do you dispute that?

Cletus may have been cheated in your opinion, but had he issued proper challenge, would there be a problem? I have seen Dalamar, on numerous occasions face off against Warlords on his own. Maybe you've missed those matches. And I seriously doubt, should you win, that you'll never use the test yourself. As for Dal testing Barons, I could research this, but to my immediate recollection, Dalamar has only tested a single Baron. And on almost every
other occasion, I have agreed with who he has tested. Mainly because I rarely feel that some of those who have challenged him are worthy of holding the title of Overlord. And that's my Personal Opinion. In my opinion, I find your reasonings to be weak, other than the one where you wish to prove the skills of your blade.
Do you wish to gain the title for yourself, or for the betterment of the DoS?

I'm 100% certain that someone will come up here and rebutt my words, probably someone who's unhappy with me or something in order to make themselves heard. But in any case.

It is your right to challenge, and you have done so. I just find your reasons unstable.

I won't complain to a test on this one.

Oy, Magnus has the right to challenge, and he needs no reason. If he gives us reasons and we don't approve...tough luck for us, he can still challenge.

I do not have a particular article to cite, but I believe people (which people, I cannot be certain of) in the past have said something like "If you don't like, why don't you challenge?". Now, some people (although, not necessarily the same people, mind you), are berating a Renegade Baron for doing just that.

For those of you who believe a test is appropriate for this Baron who has defended against in my opinion two of the best duelers around here that aren't Barons, Jesse & Unagi, I will have to disagree with you. This is not an upstart Warlord. This is not an untested Baron. This is a Baron of nearly four months, and of many defenses.

However, if Dalamar decides to test his next opponent, I will not be ready to revoke my Neutral status for defending the Baron. The reason for this is based on Magnus' belligerent attitude towards the Loyalist contingent (as shown in his letters to the council, which I cannot reproduce here). I cannot stand by anyone who wishes to throw away all hope of compromise just because they have it set in their mind that Dal and his "cronies" should be
overthrown.

I shall stand in no corner for this match, and may even decide not to attend for health reasons. I think I'm may be sick if I go.

He can challenge for any reason he feels. His choice. Like Jesse said once.. If he feels like pounding someone, he has the right to do so.. not exactly his words, but translated. Yes, I don't agree fully with all of his reasons, but who does? I think everybody atleast disagree's with one. For an exception of Cletus. Now that i've seen those recent posts from
the overlord replying to Var and Avery from earlier, I hereby dislike the overlord. So, all I have to say is... Go Magnus.

"For an exception of Cletus."

To all,

There is a correction I must make in the letter I sent to everyone concerning my challenge. Where I wrote "unloyal" I meant to write "dishonorable." Maybe it was just because I needed to send the letter out quickly that I made such an error. My apologies for the miswording.

((Authors Note: Sorry about that, i was writing really fast and didn't even catch myself write it by accident. I really did mean Dishonorable though....sorry))

I recently met the Overlord and he seemed a nice enough fellow as far as a first impression goes. I do not have a personal grudge against him, however how do you know you have the best swordsman wearing the crown if you don't put him to the test? I wish both an honorable and memorable duel, I wish a better duel to the weapons master and craftsman Magnus.

I feel I must agree with Lily on this...

Magnus is disagreeing with the powers that are -granted- to Dalamar as the Overlord. He is not disagreeing with Dalamar's use of such rights per se, but disagreeing with his -ability- to use them, will-he or nil-he.
Very insightful of you Ms. L'eprit.
But then, Huma is correct... it -is- Magnus' right to challenge, just as it -is- Dalamar's right to Test him, or call for a Best of Three format.
However... A purist of the rules would state that, as a Best of Three format can be given in place of selecting a Champion, both -could- be called by the name of "Test of Worthiness." It's simply a matter of common usage that we do not do this.
As always, I am merely pointing out facts and circumstances, -not- taking a side.
Thank you for your time.

<<honor runs deep in your family>>

Noelle,

Are ye aware his brother Cletus issued invalid challenge not but a few hours after Dalamar's defense against Daegarth? Is it honorable ta be so rabidly against a man ya cannot follow da rules and allow him ta savor his victory? Magnus has done no wrong, but don't assume his honor was passed on in da family gene pool. Cletus screwed up and Magnus is dere ta take da attention offa it.

This is a sport. Not a drama. Is Mag not following the rules? And is Dal not following the rules? So ... having them both following the rules, what is in question? The Baron has defended his ring four times already and on some, done with with style. Dal has defended the crown more time than I can remember ... I believe they can set up a match without having everyone bicker back and forth before Dal can even set a date or even reply. A good
reason to challenge is ... cause ya want the rank. In 90$ of the cases, that is what it is. Though, people make up these lame excuses.
