I think the percentage to determine whether or not the test is overused is to compare the opportunities which he had the test and did so; i.e. throwing out the challenges from winners of Warlord's Tournaments, because intercessions are not obviously allowed. With the numbers Jeff put up (and including Magnus who was left off his original post), it appears Dal tests his challengers less than 50% of the time-- not bad.
But, if you throw out the tournament winners who he had no option to test, I'm sure the percentage would be very significantly higher.

Although I have not looked it up, but I plan to, I believe Dal has not championed two opponents out of all he has been able to champion. Someone correct me if Im wrong.

>>People don't like Dal for things he has done that we don't like. Just as I recall some people rooting against AJ in his last challenge. Thus, that means those people a) didn't like AJ or b) didn't want AJ to win.<<
And here is the biggest problem of all. Far too many members of the community take Dal's political actions as a personal affront. Instead of simply disagreeing, they start an all out war, filling themselves with hate and disdain. Over what? Over a political move. This exact thing is why friendships have been destroyed. Not because of Dal's decision, but because people take it as a personal attack against them.

>>So? Twice last year I finished third in two of the three tournaments I entered. The bad thing was, in both of those tournaments there were only two prizes available. Magnus finished third when there were more than two prizes up for grabs. The reason I am not a Baron and he is? I have got some horrible timing when it comes to doing well in tournaments.<<
Rix,
I was simply making sure Jeff had all the correct information. He made a statement that none of the challengers won their rings in Tourneys. I informed him that Magnus did.
Since you bring it up though, I will address your statement. If you challenged anyone for any title, any sort of Test or Intercession would be ridiculous. Having faced you more than once, I would not question your skill and I would question the intellect of anyone who did.

Patrons of the Duel of Swords,
This is for factual reference only, and in response to Baron Magnus's question.
Nova, Topaz, Daegarth (the first time), Rand, and Seamus received no test. They all could have been tested; yet they were all offered a "Best of Three" instead. Never have I offered one match to somebody who was not the winner of a Warlord Tournament.

Likewise, Sid, I noticed some loyal barons root against AJ in his last challenge. Why? I am assuming because he changed renegade to Dal.
AJ did what he thought was right, as Dal does. I think AJ means well with his actions, and that's one reason I respect AJ so much.
Simply stating, I don't like what Dal has done recently. I'll speak out against it, stating my feelings, and deal with it.
Like I said, I don't know why this sudden comparison between Dal and AJ. Maybe it was anger that people don't like Dal, I don't know. I don't like the fact that Jeff tried to discredit AJ. I feel there are better ways to have "dealt with it".
But I admit, sometimes things are hard to deal with.
The boards are like the rings, nowadays... Sometimes those in the boards disengage from the confrontation altogether. Sometimes, they go straight to the point with a thrust. Other times, they try to slash at whatever defenses their 'adversary' has prepared. Finally, they may step assertively, but not viciously.
Does this make it the DoB... The Duel of Boards?

My apologies if I misread what Jeff wrote. I assumed he meant the outright winner of a Warlord Tournament who took the ring rather than the challenge to the Overlord and not a second or third place finisher.

>>Likewise, Sid, I noticed some loyal barons root against AJ in his last challenge. Why? I am assuming because he changed renegade to Dal.<<
They didn't want him to lose because they disliked him (I'm assuming, though some might have), however, Var, which is more than I can say for the people who desire Dal's downfall. They, and I, simply wanted the Challenger to win.

Then why not disagree with him politically and leave it that way, rather than making personal attacks on his character? If someone was just passing through and didn't know the situation, and listened to you, they'd think that Dal did this to personally hurt you.
>>Like I said, I don't know why this sudden comparison between Dal and AJ.<<
Frankly, I don't know either. Mostly because I didn't make the comparison.
>>Maybe it was anger that people don't like Dal, I don't know. I don't like the fact that Jeff tried to discredit AJ. I feel there are better ways to have "dealt with it".

You do understand what my problem with this is? I'd hate to name names, but if I don't, my point will be most likely missed. Take Seamus as a very good example of how overboard people are getting with mixing personal and political. He didn't like what Dal did politically, and look what he's done. Shattered the friendship they once had, shattered the friendship Seamus and *I* once had, made it incredibly hard for me to trust him anymore...and for
what? A political move that he disagreed with.

I would agree with this, but what some people are lacking, is perspective. Instead of thinking, they slash wildly at anyone who remotely holds a different view, and to the Nine Hells with whomever might be on the recieving end. Too many times, it ends up being a friend, and friend who now feels like a fool for ever trusting such a person.
If anything will destroy the Sport, this will, if people don't take the time to think about what they're doing.

Percy beat me to this. Although I agree with this statement, I still do not think that Dalamar has abused his powers. During the time of some of the overlord challenges to Dal, preceeding the challenges or when the challenges were made, there was sometimes some type of action by the challenger that could be considered dishonorable, or at least rude. For instance, switching alignments and challenging in the same day. This challenger, I believe,
should be able to be tested, because such actions denote a flaw in character, maybe thats too harsh of a saying, but oh well. Its called a Test of Worthiness. Worthiness. Thats a damn big word. I think worthiness has to do with skill and the value (honor) of the dueler. So Dal can test who he wants, he's overlord for God's sake. He is a supurb dueler. We all know that he probably could have beaten the challengers that he tested, but why take
an extra chance? I'd want to protect my crown too, especially from someone who I didnt think was worthy of it, in respects of skills and character. Thats my opinion, and I'm not saying its Dal's. Anyway.
Have fun,

I seriously cannot recall what I hath done to deserve this unwarranted attention from the good baron Jeff. I don't recall being insultive to his excellency when I chose to no longer support his political views. I don't even remember 'aving any harsh words with him when I informed all that I couldn't support him any longer by
staying loyal. I've never proclaimed him to be unfit as an Overlord. I've never condemned nor condoned the Overlord for his decisions regarding the Test of Worthiness. Yet, I don't understand why the the comparison is being made by one of the most decorated and skilled of the barons, regarding m' accomplishments in comparison to Dal's.
