Good peoples of RhyDin
On this 17th day of January, shortly before the stroke of midnight, and within the Great Hall
I did once again have the honor of witnessing a challenge in the rings of combat, between two warriors.
The Baron, Cletus Granderfald and the Warlord, Verceterix Gavin 'ur Favre 'il Thorne
The Baron dueled under the flag of his home country, Polaris, a midnight black flag with the red star "Polaris" within it's center. Around his neck hung the Amulet of his departed mother. Inscribed on it the words "Dum Spiro, Spero." He dueled with his father's blade, Hralfgar. Due to an injury to his non-dueling arm, he wore a leather device designed my the Baron Magnus, which was intended to afford the limp limb protection.
Standing at his right side, and as acting as his second was Lexi.
Standing at his left side, his Siberian Husky,Terra.
The Warlord dueled under the colors of Crimson and Black. His weapon was called Icebreaker.
The Warlord was seconded my the Warlord, Roland Sal Roa.
The results are as follows
9 rounds of combat did find Rix the new posessor of the 5 th ring, one which he has sought twice before this evening. It was the new Barons duel from the start and he did not allow the Baron the lead at any point in the match. As well, he did limit him to but two scoring blows.
Upon congradulating the new Baron, I did ask of his alignment and he has decided to take the Neutral stance.

First off, I wish to thank the former Baron for putting on a grand show. I also wish to say I meant no disrepect to Cletus in the way I presented challenge. I want to apologize if he was offended by my notice.
Secondly, the reason I did challenge for the Fifth Ring was because it was a dear friend of mine's first ring he ever held. That man was Iain MacKenzie. God rest his soul. I cannot think of a ring I would rather have be my first than the one I now wear.
Finally, my thanks to the community and all who attended. I shall do my best to represent my Rank and Title as it should be represented in the Duel of Swords. With skill and with honor.

I find it deplorable that it seems to be acceptable for people, in the guise of cheering for their favorite, to bash, degrade and deride the other person in the match. Be it outright or disguised with flowery speech, the result is the same.
Those at the challenge of the 5th that pursued this manner of "cheering" cast a shadow on the entire challenge, and demeaned not only the opponent, but your favorite as well.

Having heard the news earlier last night, she came across the official announcement and for the first time in a while, a happy sparkle was seen in her eyes. No matter what else, she was pleased he had done what he set out to do, and was happy for him. With a smile, she called to the sands, "penning" a note.

What can I say that wasn't said last night? Thank you for allowing me to second you on this historic night, I promise to return the favor as soon as it is possible.

I was at the challenge last night and I hardly remember any bashing of either of the duelers or of any in the crowd. Save for a few comments from Red Arrow, but if you haven't learned his sense of humor yet or accepted it for what it is, I can see where insult may have been seen.
I for one still believe myself in good terms with Cletus, as I believe he is still an active member of the Dueling Praxeum and meant no ill-will in rooting against him, as none should be seen nor should be assumed just because I was rooting against him.
If anything, the only shadow here is in proclaiming that we (I'm assuming you meant those in Rix's corner) were bashing Cletus. Granted, I told Rix to go for the knees a few times or go for blood, but that is the normal words thrown in a challenge match and should be expected as my duty to Rix, for the honor of seconding.
I can't speak for everyone there rooting for the victor, but I personally take no offense to Jona's letter nor do I wish this mark to be placed on Rix's win.

My goodness, Jola. I suppose the only time it is acceptable to "bash, degrade and deride the other person in the match" is when you or your friends are the ones doing it. I remember more than a few "bashing" supporters at various challenges, including my own, yet we took it in stride.
This is oftentimes a bloody and violent sport with fickle and rambunctious spectators. If a person cannot handle potential heckling and hazing, then they should not strive to be in scenarios that beg the behavior. Perhaps a less stressful means of passing time is best for those with thin skin.

Tis indeed mayhap thee hae nae been to manna of the challenges. The raucous nature of the crowds ist fair legendary. Tis a blood sport, Madame Savage, tis nae a ladies garden party. Tis two men striving with blades nae tossing daisies at each other. Rix's leg didst fall through the makeshift ring, yet I noted that the defeated baron, Cletus, dinna offer to aid his opponent. In point of fact, the new Baron wast carried from the hall, though from
me vantage point, tis seeming the new Baron may hae suffered more injury after the match. Tis a fair sized dent in the lintel o'er the door of the Great Hall.

The return of a challenge match unto the Great Hall ist a fione revivial of an old tradition. T'was the hall wherein the Original Nine didst earn their rings, and, if memory serves, t'was in that Hall wherein Iain MacKenzie didst strive against Xenograg thu-Darelir in the longest Baronial match when he didst win the Fifth. Though I make nae secret of being pleased the ring now rests upon the hand of he who didst honor the memory of an old and dear

It had been awhile since she last entered the arena, it hadn't changed like she thought it would. She knew the change was in her but still she couldn't help but sense a deep, abiding loss for some of the memories she felt had been betrayed by the same imagery remaining.
There was a ghost of a smile as the boys that worked in the kitchen ran in fear of her dartgun at first sighting the long-legged woman that stood by the kiosk and flipped through the papers tacked upon it; her leather jacket unzipped far enough to catch glimpses of "the Tick" midriff t-shirt that lay beneath.
It wasn't until she saw the notice for the results of the fifth ring that a true smile touched her lips, mirrored within foresty green eyes that blurred slightly from a disconcerting tearing.
She dug into her pockets until she found a pen that still wrote well enough to finish a short note. Leaving it unsigned, trusting that the one it was addressed to would recognize the flowing script, never used in public--but only private missives.
