Patrons of the Duel of Swords,

It is with both hope and regret that I inform the citizens and visitors of and to RhyDin of the condition of the Duc Percival Marchand de Clermont. According to the reports of three medical practitioners, the Duc suffered a stroke of indeterminate strength during or immediately after his duel with the Lady Sidartha Elgarette at a TDL exhibition between the Dracoern Highlands team and the Rising Stars. The diagnosis was made by Lady Colleen Lasher of
Navarra, on the site. He was immediately taken to the Golden Ivy Tavern by his fiance, the Lady Sarana, where he is receiving medical care from his personal physician here in RhyDin and his family doctor from his homeland.
The doctors disagree on the severity of the stroke. The family doctor believes it was a serious episode, and there is real risk of permanent damage or death. He believes that friends and family should steel themselves for the worst. The local physician believes that while the episode was a serious one, that the damage done was all or mostly temporary. He boldly predicts a complete recovery, and even goes so far as to predict that due to the Duc's
remarkable healing abilities this recovery will be extremely rapid.
Both physicians agree on the reason for the stroke, however. It was brought on by a combination of personal and professional stress, mental and emotional exhaustion due to that stress, and a family history of high blood pressure. They also speculate that it could be linked to a recent illness that interfered for a short time with his control over his physical aging process. Therefore an added factor could be age. The doctors firmly state that the
stroke had nothing to do with his duel. In their professional opinion it would have occured wherever he was, whatever he was doing. They wish to make an official statement that the Dracoern Highlands team and Lady Elgarette are in no way responsible for the episode. Family and company lawyers, likewise, absolve both team and captain of all liability freely. Percival, as best as he was able, has expressed a desire to see the Lady Elgarette as soon as
possible.
The Duc has prepared a codicil for just this sort of possible emergency. Arrangements have been made, and official notice is hereby given. His assistant captain, Daelin Dragonsblade, is entitled to assume the duties of team captain until the Duc is able to resume them. This may continue for a bit after his physical recovery, as stress is an issue. The paperwork and control of the Clermont Academy is entrusted to the chief instructor, Shadow, who
currently runs the day to day operations of the major class. His business, political, and financial duties both in RhyDin and abroad are turned over to the Vice President and COO of March Inc, and the Deputy of the Duchy of Clermont and Seneschal to the Duc, Lord Rory McMurdoch.
The Duc, as he was able to communicate his wishes, asked me to pass on his affection and regard to all those in the Duel of Swords, friends and antagonists alike. He forgives those who have wronged him, and asks forgiveness of any who feel he has wronged them. He will return as soon as he is able, whatever his doctors say. Of course, he is a stubborn old goat.
