Lords an' Ladies o' the Duel o' Swords,

First, me apologies fer nae postin' the results sooner.

As ta the results themselves...

The Warlord Eric Siadek was the las' remainin' dueler o' the No-Loss Bracket, an' the Warlord Lucian o' the One-Loss Bracket. By defeatin' Eric twice in a row, Lucian won the Tourney an' claimed as his prize the Second Ring, alligning himself Neutral ta the O'erlord. Eric, in secon' place, received the righ' ta an intercession-free challenge ta the O'erlord. As Baron Adonai Uziel's challenge in this instance takes prescidence, Eric shall be able
ta challenge the victor o' Friday's match between Adonai an' Eros.

Turi

"As Baron Adonai Uziel's challenge in this instance takes prescidence, Eric shall be able ta challenge the victor o' Friday's match between Adonai an' Eros."

Ist this an official ruling? I do ask that thee cite thine reasonings, for tis this flies in the face of the official wording in the rules of engagement, wherein it states that the warlord having taken the right of challenge unto the Overlord ast a result of a Warlord's Tourney doest supercede any outstanding challenge and can not be denied for any reason.

Though I am not sure if it is my place to say, I will go ahead and just say it.

Earlier today, the Barons and all parties involved in this discussion recieved Golden's official and final ruling on the matter, and it was that Adonai's challenge to Eros goes through first with Eric getting to challenge the winner.

It's all said and done, so let's not squabble over this ruling and just enjoy the matches, eh?

Interesting.

A hypothetical scenario, if you will:

Overlord Gawain gets challenged by challenger Owen. Gawain does not like Owen so he goes to his loyal baron friend, Gareth, and makes a deal.

"Gareth, I'm going to realign you to renegade. This means you can step all over Owen's challenge. I'll make sure you win, then I'll claim loyalty so you can intercede on all my challenges. Then, when someone you don't like challenges, realign me so I can challenge and win and you and I can alternate playing Overlord and make sure no one else gets a real shot. Deal? Deal!"

Finally, the rules will need to be changed to reflect that 1) a prizeholder's right no longer supercedes any outstanding challenges and may very well be denied, and 2) in the UTC, that the overlord can, indeed, be forced to accept a challenge queue.

I have a better idea, why not just throw the rules out since there seems to be such difficulty in following them?

The problem is that there is a conflict between two different rules, Morgan. On the one hand, the Tourney winner's prize overrules all outstanding challenges. On the other hand, the realigned Renegade has the right of "immediate challenge." Either decision is going to give rise to unhappiness with someone. Golden's ruling his official, as he is the Supervisor. Interperating this kinds of conflicts is his job, neh? With his opinion given, the
argument is at an end. Or should be.

Lady Cornwall:

Get this straight... simply because your interpretation of conflicting rules is different from that which the Supervisor has come up with does not mean there is "difficulty in following" rules.

We can argue about meanings until we are blue in the face, but this decision was made by the person in charge - whom, you will note, has that power. It is decided; let it go.

P.S. Dinner later?

Ian,

Get this straight...

I will not let it go.

I insist that I be allowed to at least bring the wine.

Rix

Thank ye for the information. I, for one, wouldst hope that Master Evermeadow would make his official pronouncement upon this cork and unto the entire community.

Percival

There be more than one conflicting matter in the rules of engagement. I am reminded that should a Baron retire his ring, the vacancy ist to be filled by the "winner" of the Warlord's tourney. Tis, in past, that hast been eschewed, witness the case of both Skyler and Overborg. Those happenstances took place during Madame Girvin's tenure. Mind thee Percival, Master Evermeadow's ruling sets a precedent and wouldst appear to override the
official rules of engagement. Only time shall tell what the setting of this precedent shall brew, neh?

Master Evermeadow,

I request that thee make known unto the community at large thine ruling with regard to the matter at hand. Tis the matter dost affect the community ast a whole and nae simply the current Overlord and seated Barons. A missive placed up the cork for all to peruse, perhaps, if thee wouldst be so kind.

Respectfully

Well decisions and rules aside. Just from the vantage point of knowing what each duelist had to go through in order to challenge the Overlord I would have to say this:

Eric deserves his shot at Marzan more than Adonai. But as everyone has said, the decision is made. Since I haven't read any complaints from Eric or Marzan, then I really have no place to argue for them.

A Better option.

The wording Immediate challenge, implies something that cannot be denied. However, the exact word Immediate, taken to extremes, indicates that the Baron and the Overlord should duel the very moment the Standing's Keeper receives the missive.
After all, that's an immediate challenge, not an immediate right to challenge... true?

Just pointing out the ridiculousness of following the exact wording of the rules.
