~~Formal Acceptance of Overlord Challenge~~

Post by DoS Archive » Wed Sep 29, 2004 5:43 pm

Lady Drakewyn, Lord GoldenDust, Esteemed Barons, Brothers and Sisters of Swords,

~~

I, Eros DeBurgo, do hereby accept the Challenge issued by Renegade Baron
Cristian de Oro. Seeing as the Baron's reasons for challenging are the betterment of Swords, I shall not subject him to a Test of Worthiness. The Match will be conducted in a best of three format. My Second shall be Leto of Covington and my Colors shall be Red, Black and Gold. My Lady of Honor shall be my wife,
The Lady Topaz DeBurgo. I shall duel for the Honor of The House of Asgard and The Elven Kingdom of Eldicor. I shall duel with the Elven Broadsword, Valinor. I would respectfully ask Warlord Auritan to inspect the Ward of Gondar to make sure it is functioning properly. I have been pronounced fit by my healer, and would respectfully ask my worthy opponent to seek the same assurance. I would like this Challenge to take place as soon as possible out
of respect to The Baron. I will be in contact with him to arrange the particulars, and will inform all when they are agreed upon.

Another well written acceptance, M'Lord. This time you may have wanted to have a test of worthiness, Not out of disrespect for the Baron, but because you are doing DoS some good.
Signed,

Sir Beiver,

To Lord Eros, Esteemed Barons, and Patrons of the Duel of Swords,

Good Ladies and Gentlemen, I have, upon our Overlord's request, turned my mind's eye inward and carefully traced the linkages which bind me for the nonce to that compendium of spells known as the Ward of Gondar, looking as it were, for any flaw or defect that might be found. Be assured that, as far as may be determined by this humble personage of such meager knowledge, the Ward of Gondar appears to be fully operational and of appropriate strength.

As many of thee must, of certainty know, the Ward is fueled by (perhaps 'feeds on' is a more apt description) the Blood shed in the Rings and absorbed into the Sands of the Arena. In my studies of this phenomenon, I have uncovered clues suggesting that the nourishing quality and richness of this feasting has in it a dependency on the Honor and Respect displayed by the duelists, and most especially by those of the upper ranks, whose Quests and
Challenges reflect, in its purist form, the Honor of the Rings.

In this respect, I have the pleasure to report that the Ward of Gondar, over the past many weeks, appears to not only be well serving the needs of the community, but to have increased in its ability to guard our duelists from permanent harm, responding to and repairing the wounds suffered by the duelists in an outstanding manner that most assuredly reflects the Honorable sportsmanship that has been so markedly visible in the Rings of late. I
congratulate all who have carried themselves with such comportment.

Humbly submitted, with kindest regards and well wishes to all,

~Auritan the Meek

Eros,

Grand job on the title defense. I respect the overlord(you). I also respect Warlords... and GM@a ans M@A and Swordsmen. I haven't even had my first match yet. It'll be soon though.

Yours truly on St. Patricks Day,

Um... I think that this was for acceptance of challenge, not report of successful defense.

I wish you much luck once again Eros. I have no doubt that you'll succeed like your defenses from before. Strike hard and well with your blade.

Let me see if I have this all right.
The Ward feeds off the blood shed in the ring, and this blood is best (and therefore the Ward works best) when the blood is shed honorably. Dalamar was killed (or, more correctly, was so severely injured that the majority of the arena does not know whether he lives right now) because the Ward was not functioning well. Since Dalamar had fought without harm many times, we can assume he handles challenges honorably. His opponent at the time of
Ward failure was Marzan. You make the mental leap about who was dishonorable.
Cristian, win.

Oh, and Cassius? Don't keep repeating yourself.

From my understanding, the above is flawed. It is the blood of the entire dueling community that feeds "the Ward". It is the community acting dishonorably in general that would cause "the Ward" to become negligent, not one individual dueler.

Marzan issued his challenge a great deal more honorably than many of Dalamar's challengers, and fought in the same vain. Do not try using flawed logic and facts that are basically hearsay to try to dishonor him. Use his own actions instead.
