>>Dalamar was killed (or, more correctly, was so severely injured that the majority of the arena does not know whether he lives right now) because the Ward was not functioning well. Since Dalamar had fought without harm many times, we can assume he handles challenges honorably. His opponent at the time of
Ward failure was Marzan. You make the mental leap about who was dishonorable.<<
Ally,
I believe others will be able to supprt my following statement. Without choosing to comment at this time on Marzan's honor or lack of it, I believe I should point out as many have before that Dalamar's own powers prevented the Ward from healing him, and always have. This is why he was wounded in several of his previous defenses prior to battling Marzan. Simply put, the Ward did not fail nor was there anything wrong with it. It simply as never
protected Dalamar, due to his own nature.
Didn't we all go through this the last time people talked about the Ward failing?

::Shrugs his shoulders::
I always thought the Ward was that old guy who cleaned up all the blood after hours.
Silly me.

Morgan, perhaps "fail" is too strong a word. My apologies. But can we agree that the Ward has decreased in strength at times, and required renewal?
Walker, which of my facts were "basically hearsay"? My interpretation of the events may not have agreed with yours, but I didn't realize any of the facts I had were incorrect or just rumor.
Percival, I do believe you are correct when you say Dalamar was resistant to the powers of the Ward and was injured in previous defenses.
Still, doesn't the question remain of whether an honorable man would fight Dalamar so fiercely when he knew that the Ward would not heal him?

What Auritan has told the community. We believe him, being the guardian of "the Ward" and all, but if he was told by the Ward that "so-and-so is the case", then it is hearsay. Otherwise, it is merely an attempt to explain behavior, making the evidence circumstantial at best. Despite Auritan's supposed relationship with the Ward, in neither case will I automatically accept what Auritan said as the truth, barring concrete proof, of course.
If you decide to take what Auritan said as fact anyway, go ahead. I guess I'll just ignore your arguments based on said fact.

Ally.
Again, you are posting based upon assumptions that are not true.
I'm not sure who's giving you your information, but perhaps you should question them closely.
I was there. Before the third match began, Lord Eros offered Lord Ar'Daumon time to recover... twice. He further expressed his concern that Dalamar looked overly tired from the dueling. In addition, Dalamar pushed aside offers of aid from others who were concerned for him.
During the actual duel, Eros' strikes were -not- "vicious", nor were they "brutal." Except for rare occasions, Lord Eros has always dueled with caution for his opponent, striking with the least amount of force required, and that duel was no exception.
If Lord Ar'Daumon is indeed dead, as all evidence seems to indicate, then he did -not- die from the wounds he took, but from the stress he put himself through. At any time, he could have stepped back and requested a pause in the dueling. No one, least of all Lord Eros, would have gainsayed him that.

Ally, you asked, "But can we agree that the Ward has decreased in strength at times, and required renewal?"
I wish I could agree with you, but I cannot. If a person does not benefit from the Ward's healing powers, it is a result of their own physiology and/or mindset.
I tire of people blaming something they know next to nothing about for their personal ills.

Drake,
I was posting on what I thought was true, and I did preface the post with a disclaimer along those lines. My "information" came from Auritan's post on this very board. My personal opinions, nonetheless, may have interfered with some of my conclusions, and for that I apologize. Still, I never claimed I was the sole authority on this matter, and I am very willing to listen to other people's arguments and replies and, if necessary, change what I
think.
Morgan,
It's very possible that I am mistaken about the Ward, but I was under the impression that the death match between Luthien Tinuviel and Prudence O'Shaughnessy was required to renew the Ward. Is this correct, or am I just off in left field somewhere?

Dalamar had his own healing properties, Ally. This is why Marzan did not hold back, I'm supposing. It was an accident.

No, this is not correct. Though I do not know much of the background information (Ath could explain it much much better than I) I do know that it was a previous "Guardian" or some such of the Ward before Ath who required the death match. After Prudence died, Ath fought that "Guardian" and defeated him so that such demands would not come up again.
I hope this helps a bit.

I am sure whatever happened that is what they believed was required. Athlstan is a good man who very much would sacrifice himself to save others future and needless pain.
Unfortunately, I have never seen enough evidence to indicate that our actions affect the Ward either positively or negatively, though Athlstan's and Auritan's efforts certainly could help, if help were necessary.
