Dear Lady Drakewyn Anastasia Alabaster Silvertree,

I thank you for a kind responce and feel your words to the bone. We are making the future of DoS now. But hey, I study both past and present ::takes a moment to chuckle:: Maybe we can make two threads of posts dealing with one of these topics a piece. Granted I want to hear about the histories, people's news now, good and bad, are worth reading about as well. The only reason I did not mention now was because I have been getting an ear full from
my own problems. Thank you for reminding me, M'Lady.

With honor,

>>Don't ever try and tell me what old-timer means if you weren't even there to understand those days.<<

An old-timer is someone who spends more time with his nose in old tattered record sheets from the days of his prime rather than spending it in the rings doing... somthing.

>>The DoS histories only deal with Overlords and Barons. Those are just ranks ... not the foundation of DoS.<<

Hey Evan, how often do you get dissapointed? If you believe that then oh boy, the meatslapper of reality hasn't hit you.

History is for scholars.

~ Gabby Hayes, eat your heart out~

Ayup, I recall those days, albeit was sporadic on my part as the high tax code kept me often on the far side of the Rio Grande. But I witnessed many an uprisin' from across the waters and still managed to learn the right side of a weapon from the wrong...rather well. One could earn tax reprieve by volunteering for the "RhyDin Rangers" back in those days, and I was in good company to do so.
The names of the attendees were for the most part, different. Some have now risen to the status of legend...pioneers typically do...much to their personal amusement in many cases,

::Smacks off the dust and hands Gabby back his hat as she continues to write::The room was smaller...less hectic, but aside from the proliferation o' pure gamers tha' seem ta abound here anymore, the issues, the agendas, and the motivational spirit of sae many o' these names who have fallen by the wayside, seem little changed than what is heard among the more active participants ta this day.

But no matter the infra struggles, it's always a pleasure ta see those who were once whispered about as if counted among the dead, return, set such rumors aside, and add their accumulated wisdom back into the coffers of dueling experience.

'Tis also a ne'er dimming pleasure ta welcome those new ta the sport, who see it through fresh eyes, and recall ta all of us once again why any of us became involved in the arena in the first place. I can't however for the life o' me, see how any of this could become an issue, but am somewhat fascinated by 'tis continual revival as one. The past and the present scrape elbows here almost every night, e'en ast they did then, each dependent somewhat
upon the other... one for recognition, the other... validation? It all seems pretty normal ta me. But time's added a philosophical bent ta my view of an age old conflict o' perceptions.

I do love the history reviews howe'er, and would love ta see them continued by those who lived it. If ya have old war stories, ya have my ear, and possibly a chance a' publication as well. Drop a line. My interest is genuine.

Oh yes, i remeber that time very well. I was just a kid when i first came to this town. Yet, it is amazing at how well one can be excepted, if they have a good head on their shoulders. I remeber sitting in the Inn always watching that door that lead somewhere. I had heard of the people within, who faught, and did much of what was done in the inn. I think we all wanted something better, a place
where we could show our skill. Yet i was still young, and didn't belive myself worthy to step into a ring with such noble warriors. So i stayed in the inn, Joined a guild for my own protection, and learned to fight. 5 yeas ago i came, and then left after a year or so.
I had almost forgoten about that tax. Yeah.. that was a main reason for me leaving. I mean i was young, and had no money... And you can only get so many girls to buy ya food and drinks in the inn. Soon i found myself not being able to aford the rent of 400 a month. Yeah.. that tax took its toll alright. With all the changes brought about... that has to be the most influential. From what i have heard their have been many changes to this place
since it began, and i want to know more of them. Yet, believe me when i say that the tax is the major change. It has allowed more people of all races to come and live in the city. To stay for a while, talk, work, and play.I do remeber some people who started the DoS. Perhaps not their names, but them as a person. Where, and who you faught for, were major things back then. Your guild, and rank almost went along with your name. So it was common to hear
someone speak of the DoS every so often. I never did find my way down, and then i left... to make some money, and find love. A year ago i returned, a found the door in the same place. With some years under my belt, i stepped in. Then 19, I felt i had what it might take to fight with the gretest around. And ya know what.... I dont think i will be leaving for a while.
I knwo i cant say much about what happend in that room way back when, but i do have stories of what happened outside of it. I was just one of the regulars that watched all of them step through the door. You all are right... we should not forget the past... But dont forget to live for the future either.

Baron of the Twelfth

P.S. Tax is bad... really bad... =P Thanks for the remider of how bad it was.

Ecore:

As usual - nay, always - you completely miss the point, and in attempting to debate that which is not debatable, attempt to prop yourself up.

You most certainly DO think less of those who haven't been here as long as you; your very demeanour toward them whenever the discussion begins makes that quite apparent. It is no different than your attitude toward those who have never achieved rank, for that matter - another sign of your overweening elitism.

In your narrow view, all you can bother to look at is moldy old papers with statistics on them, and you never consider the people represented. There are duelers whose career records would make them Warlords here, but who have never had the inclination to remain, and therefore to you, they're just people who made Swordsman or Master-at-Arms and then disappeared; in fact, I clearly remember you all but spitting at one such individual, telling him his
opinion didn't matter because he was not a Warlord.

Perhaps you remember him. Even though his opinion didn't matter to you, Siera Redwin deemed him worthy to succeed her.

As for your insipid assertion that I think I am one "who saw it all and pretend to be the authority of everything that ever happened," you fairly prove that while you might have regained your head, your mind sadly failed to join it. I pretend no authority over anything that happened here prior to the time when I - by force of my blade, personality, and will - was accepted as one whose words carried meaning. You do not, have not, and will not see me
speak with authority regarding ANY issue which occurred prior to the Tourney of the Nine, and very little between then and my acquisition of the Fifth Ring (save noting points of clear fact which are there for all to see within the history). After that point, yes, I do speak with authority; I am not immodest enough to pretend that from that point forward, my words do not carry weight. However, that is NOT simply because I was "here," Ecore - it is
because I have earned respect from those here who choose to give it. I will never expect it simply on the basis of having been present, nor simply on the basis of having held three rings... and I will certainly never demand it. There is no criteria by which someone has "earned" everyone's respect; that is something each individual must grant to those they feel deserving. The difference, of course, is that I have this attitude without concern for
the worth of those who may or may not offer that respect, where you display your bitterness at not receiving it by castigating the entire community and calling that respect "not worth sheep's dung." It makes one wonder, if you don't care, why you bother?

Make no mistake, Ecore - your memories ARE worthwhile. Your ability to tell this community of the events of the distant past is not being disparage. Your method, however, of implying that you are important simply because you can offer this knowledge is tiresome. Should I find myself curious about Gondar, I would without question seek out the Monk for enlightenment before you, as he would offer that knowledge with some modicum of humility.

Ian,

I have never once implied I am more important then anyone just because of the fact that I happened upon the duels before most others currently around. And for you to accuse such is completly uncalled for, and obvious of the fact you truely know nothing of me and what is important to me. At this disappointing moment I shall simply leave off and say that I have lost all respect for you. And so I won't bother with addressing you further. Good
Day.

Ian:

You bring up several good points in your latest post. It is true that authority is not giving because of how long you have been in DoS but earned by accomplishing tasks as simple as just dueling. Also, everyone on the standings which Ecore posted is just as 'worthy' as anyone else during that time period for the simple fact of they where there to duel and be part of the community. However, this brings me to my next point. Though these
old duelers do not earn authority because of being old, they should be respected for keeping DoS alive and being apart of what it was. This in return made it able for the duelers today to share in thier pioneering of the sport. I don't know about others, but I respect every one of those people on the list, most whom I have never and in all likely terms will not meet, but I respect them for what they did. That is what I think the 'old' should be
granted. Alas, we will be gone of this age as the old were in due time, that being most on the current standings. We as well will be looked upon in the same fashion as we look upon your past. "I would have liked to meet the 30th, 31th, or 32th Overlord" will be whined over on these same boards when there is a 65th Overlord is in power. Those duelers will consider us dust.
I have hoped I have made my thoughts clear on this subject for I have a habit of rambling and misleading my words to no one can understand them.

Thank you for your time,

Atleast you haven't giving up what you have always wanted togo for ,Tas. I find it hard to be motivated for anything anymore except just duel and have a drink with what is left of my comrades here.

After thinking on Iain's remarks over the night, I have come to a simple conclusion. I won't bother to share what of history I know or was apart of anymore. Since the farthest desire I have right now is to bring any negativeity towards myself as I was for once trying to do something positive, I simply give up. History is better left in
the past and remembered fondly in the minds of those who experienced rather then try to share it with inconsiderant elitists who assume alterior motives.

At this point when I decide to come into the Arena, I am just gonna bash whoever's brains I find who wants to step into the ring with me. Everything to try and do and get involved with is pointless it seems. Have a good day.

And once again, Ecore proves himself.

"If I can't have my feet kissed for doing something, then it's not worth doing." If you ever attempted to offer your sage knowledge for any purpose other than to feel important, you'd NEVER be so petulant as to decide you're not going to anymore simply because your motives are in question.

You've just proven my entire point, Welshman. I thank you, deeply, making my argument for me in a way I never could have hoped to myself.

Inconsiderate elitists, Ecore? Let's see... we have one person in this discussion who takes students who aren't even ON the standings, and refuses to name them because he finds the act of taking credit for those students to be offensive, and another who has, in the past, stated that he won't bother teaching anyone who hasn't at least achieved some rank and constantly reminds everyone who they are.

We have one person who judges people's worth on their rank, and another who judges people's worth on their words and actions.

Who's the inconsiderate elitist, again?

Yes, it's all rather pointless for you to try and do anything, Ecore, because all you ever think about is yourself when you do it. If you can't be worshipped for what "good" you attempt to do, you can't be bothered with it. And you wonder why I accuse you of having ulterior motives? Every time you don't get your way, you throw a fit and decide you're just going to be a complete prat, who simply doesn't care and only wants to bash people's heads
in. How charming. Have you ever, perhaps, considered a decent individual just because it's the decent thing to do, rather than because you think people will kiss your feet?

Ian,

Your so far from the truth on what my requirements were to take a student that its pathetic. And yes I have indeed been proud of my students and their accomplishments. Most of them would have faired well without my tutleage. I just helped them along a little quicker for paths they were already destined for.

And as I have said before I never wanted anyone to respect me simply for my knowledge of being here longer then most. Or as you so erronesly quoted something I never said, I don't want my feet kissed. Especially by arses like yourself because I don't want brown on my black boots. I stopped because of the simple fact that I was trying to do something positive and as soon as I tried immediatly people like you had to bash me for doing it
expecting something else. You never even gave me a chance Iain, so it's obvious if I am not accepted by you and your sorry arse Amethyst Ring then I will not have anything but conflict from your elitist cliq of snobs. It's not worth the enegery of the effort anymore.

By the way, try and be around the rings for once and actually duel soon. I'd really enjoy getting your punk-arse in the ring for some old-school thrashing. Other then that I hope a dragon lands on your head though I'd doubt that would be enough to squish your ego.

::walks to the posting boards, after reading up upon all of the bickering, he thinks back on Quizxs request for more stories from the past, he stands, looking into space, obviously deep in his thoughts, then he begins to laugh uncontrollably, then scribbles something up, hopeing Luppy doesnt get to upset::

Hey Quizxs, next time you see Lupton, ask him about the time he dueled a man named WickedDeth. He dueled him, and the loser was the other's slave. ::chuckles a bit:: I believe Luppy lost. I may have to contact Wicked, I do need a boot shine everyonce in a while. Oh, but you should have been there. Wicked had Lup chained up like a dog, and would throw bones at him, and kick him for fun, it was the funniest thing i have ever seen.

::now that his thoughts were more into the past, he remembers another story, a bit more personal, but tacks it up anyhow::

Oh yes, and during Valmion's reign, when I was still a wee lad, I believe he insulted me.... so I spit on him. Then he beat my arse 5-.5 I believe in the ring. I brought the subject up with him recently, though he didnt quite remember who it was who spit on him, I was a bit relieved.

I can think of some others if you wish..

Gunthar

I forgot to include a parcel to my last post....

Have you ever given anyone the benefit of the doubt and just sat back and watched to see if they maybe really do change or are trying to do something just for the benefit for doing something to make positive change, Ian?

No, you haven't. You couldn't wait to pounce on my every word to twist into your own philosophy of why I was trying to do these things.

Your probably bitter still cause I took a ring from you. And records are important becauase you can't reallyt do anything else in Swords till you achieve a record to get to titles and try to be leaders of the com, munity.

Its the blade that will always rule the day here in the Arena, not your mouth Ian. If you could duel a tenth of how your mouth runs, you could be the longest lasting Overlord ever in the history of Swords and never have to use a Test of Worthiness. But since you can't duel worth beans, you chose to manipulate popular opinion to your Agenda.
