Members of the Community,
After receiving the final letter from the Council, I set upon creating the final format and initial pairings for the Tournament.
As the Overlord is seen as the supreme duelist of the Duel of Swords, my intent is to see to it that this Tournament be a true test of skill and endurance.
That being the case, the following format will be used.
First night:
Initial pairings are random, based upon a blind selection of names until only one name remains.
The odd Baron out stands in wait for the first duel to be completed.
The odd Baron out will then duel the loser of that duel, the winner becoming the odd Baron out and waiting for the next duel to finish.
The only time we will break from this pattern will be if the pattern results in a pairing that has already dueled. In such a case, the winner of the just finished duel will duel the odd Baron out. If that also results in a pairing that has already dueled, all three Barons will wait for the next duel to finish and pairings will be made from that group. In all honesty, I do not expect it will come to that, given the number of Barons who will be
dueling.
All duels must begin within ten minutes of the pairing being announced by the caller of the particular match.
Dueling will begin at 10pm EST, and no new duels will be started after 12:30am EST. Should a greater majority {i.e. six or more} of the Barons wish to continue, we shall; no Baron will be penalized for leaving after this time.
Second Night:
Pairings will be based upon blind selection, with the Baron who dueled the most duels automatically being the odd Baron out. In a case of more than one Baron having the highest total number of duels, the Baron with the best record of those becomes the odd Baron out.
If, at any time, a Baron has dueled all eight of the other Barons in the Tourney, they are automatically taken from the rotation and their total record calculated.
In all other respects, we will follow the format of the first night.
Dueling will begin at 10pm EST and continue until either all of the Barons have dueled the full rotation or 1am EST. Should those Barons with the fewest duels all unanimously agree, another round will be dueled.
Upon completion of the Tournament, all remaining Barons will have their total record calculated. The Baron with the greatest percentage of wins becomes the next Overlord of the Duel of Swords.
Should two Barons have the same percentage, then the winner of the duel between them during the Tourney becomes the next Overlord of the Duel of Swords.
Should the two Barons not have met in the Tourney, they will immediately duel each other for the Crown.
Should more than two Barons have the same percentage, and no clear victor can be determined by previous matches, {Example: Baron A beat Baron B, Baron B beat Baron C, and Baron C beat Baron A} The Baron who had the fewest points scored upon him becomes the next Overlord of the Duel of Swords.
Overall rules.
Failure to attend both nights is automatic disqualification.
Any wins or losses against a disqualified Baron are thrown out, unless they will provide an obvious tiebreaker. {Example: Baron A is disqualified for failing to show on Tuesday. Baron B and Baron C both end the Tourney with a record of 5-2, Baron C defeated Baron A, but Baron B lost to Baron A. Baron C becomes the Overlord based upon a 6-2 record against peers.}
The standard rules regarding delays, as well as all other standard rules, shall be enforced. (( If you punt, you've got ten minutes; fifteen if the person left in the ring has already dueled the odd Baron out. ))
Unless clearly holding a superior record, no Baron who has dueled less than five duels shall be declared the winner. {Example: Baron A has a record of 4-0, while no other Baron has a record better than 3-2 or 4-3.} In the case of a clearly superior record of less than five duels at the close of the Tournament, that Baron must duel then highest ranked {by record} Baron that they have not yet fought.
Any questions should be directed to the Office of the Standing's Keeper.
