Anxiously, Jaycy paced outside the door to her room. It was slightly ajar, a pack waiting for her on the bed. Where is Marit, she thought, scowling. She should have been here by now. Back and forth she walked, beginning to wear down the new carpet.
Finally, down the hall she spotted her SwordSister. Giving a half wave, Jaycy ducked into the room and grabbed the waiting bundle before slipping back into the hall, remembering to lock the door behind her. As swiftly as she could, she made her way toward Marit, shrugging the straps of the pack over her shoulder. A small grin crossed her face as she stopped before the taller lady. "Ya ready?" asked Jaycy.
"Aye" came the response. Chuckling, Jaycy peeked behind Marit, to find nothing there. "Where's yer stuff, hon? In yer room?" Marit chuckled at that, again responding with an "aye", and opened her own room, grabbing the needed items and stuffing them into a pack. Closing her own door, she said "Shall we be off then?" At Jaycy's nod, the two ladies turned and followed the hall to the front door. Sneakily, they cracked it open and slipped
through, not wanting to disturb the others.
They began their journey silently, padding through RhyDin proper. With a frown, Jaycy turned to Marit. "What way do we go?" Slowly, Marit's face began to mirror her friend's as she looked around them. "I do nae know." She started to say something else, but as she turned, the gypsy's eyes were closed and Marit thought better of it. As the gypsy's eyes opened, she pointed to the south. "There... I can feel a faint trail." With a faint, almost
sad grin, she didn't offer any more explanation, and began to move south.
It was almost an hour before they left the town itself and began their trek through the woods. Wincing, Jaycy paused her steps a moment to collect her breath. At Marit's concerned look, the gypsy waved a hand dismissively. "I'm just tired from workin' is all." She nodded, and finally Marit nodded as well, with a knowing little smile. Again they moved on.

With each step taken, Marit assessed the situation more and more. She had agreed to go along on this quest, not only for her own conscience but too, because she could validate harboring the same concerns as Jaycy. With each stride, came more determination accompanied with the type of silence that would only be so subservient to it. A sudden, gut-level sense of destiny coursed through her. She
moved barefootedly, under dancing branches and whispering leaves now, with a twofold purpose; one of them unknown.
The gypsy and aztecdraconian reached the outskirts of Rhydin. Marit followed Jaycy's urgent pace. Finally, she recognized the surroundings. Jaycy had led her to the premises of the West Hotel. "Thought it would be good to check here once more, " Jaycy said. "Aye. A wise choice," Marit consented.
Once inside and entering the Hotel's lobby, Jaycy gestured to the kitchen area. Marit nodded and headed toward the direction in which Jaycy pointed.
"I will check upstairs, " she told Marit.
Both women tempered quick but thorough searches. They returned back to the lobby with expressions readable enough to know their search had found no consolations.
"Has she ever disappeared afore?" Marit suddenly thought to ask.

After a moment's thought over the question, Jaycy shrugged. "She's been stuck in bed for days before; and apparently at the end of the season she did...". Again the gypsy shrugged. "But nothing like this. I knew she was planning to leave, but thought at least I, and hopefully Zen, had talked her out of it." Frowning, she shook her head. "Let's go."
Jaycy had checked in Casey's room and noted the lack of belongings. So she has been here, the woman mused as they exited the hotel and again began to move south. At least she was smart enough to take some things with her; gods knows out in the woods she'll need 'em. A sigh escaped, and she looked down; her mind distracted for but a single moment. In that moment, she was sent stumbling by a moss-covered tree limb jutting out
from the ground.
The palms of her hands landed heavily on the hard ground, absorbing most of the blow from the fall. However, she was unable to brace herself well enough to avoid a shock to her twice-injured and now-healing ribs. With a yelp, her arms buckled and she collapsed on her side. She lay there for a time, taking slow, shallow breaths as she forced down the pain.
Finally she got to her feet, clumsily, and almost stumbled again. As she regained her balance fully, the gypsy turned away from her close friend so Marit wouldn't see the grimace of pain. At Marit's concerned inquiry, Jaycy responded that she was fine and hadn't landed on anything vital. With a small, pained grin she turned toward the South once more and began to move.

Some hours later, Jaycy stopped before a low bush, examining a broken branch. From it, she plucked a single silver hair and held it to the light. "Seems we're on the right track, hon" she said to Marit, who peered at the piece of evidence. Dusk was approaching and inwardly the gypsy groaned again. They were pressing hard to find their prey and it hadn't been easy to continue with the pain.
Marit allowed herself to frown as she studied her friend, knowing she was in more pain than the gypsy would ever admit. "Mayhap we should stop for the night," she suggested. Surprisingly, at least to her, Jaycy offered no reisistance, and they began the work of setting up camp.
First they moved to a tree with a low-hanging branch and draped a blanket over it, making a makeshift tent. Then, Jaycy, being the smaller of the two ladies, crept inside and laid out the blankets on which they would sleep; for a few moments laying down. The hard ground could still be felt underneath the thick covers, but at least with them their bed wasn't unbearable. After a few moments' respite from the hard traveling they had done, Jaycy
reemerged from the shelter and took the packs, pulling forth some containers of food for their supper.
While Jaycy set up their sleeping area, Marit set to work gathering wood and building a strong fire. She gathered up the twigs and larger branches lying around the campsite and lay them in a pile before quickly digging a pit and tracing the outside with several medium sized rocks. That accomplished, she dropped some of the twigs in the pit and one of the larger logs. Taking a deep breath, she let out a flame, igniting the wood in the hole. As she
did so, her arms became covered with a light "skin" of scales that shimmered in the dying sunlight.
