The Seventh

The veil of sleep drew back. The flatness of ebony gave way to ebbing maroon as conciousness began to survey. Somewhere hearts were beating, drawing closer to the time where they would grow silent. The miasma split and formed again.
Bone against stone, Bone against stone, the end drew closer as the Seventh drew a meaningless breath and left the land of Solitude, the land of the fallen Father.
***
The voices had a way of coming and going, and at this hour, they were coming en force. Dad was calling again, as he was prone to do, demanding as he always did, wanting company to corrupt and devour in the Shadowlands as he always wanted. Each time he called the Seventh to some land, to fetch him a particular soul with particular qualities, as Dad was a particular fellow. This time, even though there is no such thing as time--perhaps we should
refer to it as "This incident," or simply, "This"--Dad wanted one from the center of "Things"--Though when you get to a certain age, you realize there are no "Things"--that peculiar little realm that people tend to call RhyDin. He had a very certain individual--though as you might expect, there are no "individuals," but these are concepts you cannot understand until you have been a great many places that you have never been--in mind, a soul--No, no
"souls" exist either--that heralded from Above--direction is meaningless as well--that was called by many, including herself, Cygnet.. a "Seraphim," or "Cherubim," or something to that effect. Regardless of species or metaphysical labels, Dad liked her, and therefore, the Seventh would speed her from this mortal coil and delomptly. The Prince kept quiet; so did the Clock God, though he made some nasty faces at Dad. The Businessmen conferred among
themselves and elected not to contest. So at that time, or possibly a long time after or before--no one kept track--the Seventh was not where he was and now was instead somewhere else, somewhere else being RhyDin.
***
Around the time that the Seventh was here, as opposed to somewhere else, it became very obvious to him that things were not like they were the last time we was not somewhere else. The Second and the Fourth were food for worms, utterly and there was no arguing that they were otherwise. The First was somewhere else when he had formerly not been, as with the Sixth, and the Fifth was up to his usual, in and out and in and out of everything, throwing
fits and killing things. The one who killed Dad was around, as was her self-righteous but currently irrelevant husband. They had rutted and spawned a baby who was certainly a danger, but she was a danger that was supposed to be a danger, so the Seventh paid her no concern. There were lots of fussy babies around, which led the Seventh to wonder if this stock of living things had a season for mating after all. But the Seventh wasn't one to wonder
much, so he wasn't wondering again and was instead surveying the realm as a whole and not as a whole. Dad wanted that one. But she was not in the perception of things that the Seventh was: he would have to "go flesh" to take her to Dad. The Seventh hated that, being flesh equates to not being smart. But Dad told him to, so the Seventh became stupid and fleshlike. For a moment the Seventh was different fleshes, debating and undebating as to which
flesh was the best for this. The Seventh decided, and stopped being all the other fleshes, only being one that looked not to different from the people around here.
The Seventh screamed as his mind shrunk and his intellect shrunk to fit in that stupid stupid body.
***
Clack clack, clack clack, wood clack clacked against stone. Rustle rustle, rustle rustle, the sound of cloth in motion. The sky shifted from teal to brown and settled on cyan, the horizon straightened and took a horizontal scheme. The Seventh nodded a bit, accepting this. He told himself, "Past, present, future.. Past, present, future," trying to adjust to that damnable "Time" idea that was necessary to communicate with the folk around here. The
Seventh was more than irritated, as always, to have to deal with these beings at all, but the Prince would become angry if he started killing them all, and the Prince was his friend, so he refrained grudginly. Clack clack and clack clack again, the Seventh headed on, looking for the one that would appease Dad.

Cygnet sat quietly in the Golden Ivy Tavern after having dueled in the arena. Her visage was a bright facade of sorts which belied the strange feeling of pending doom that shadowed her thoughts. She smiled and drank with her friends, all who seemed to notice her odd behavior.

When the old man hobbled into the tavern bent over a cane, the Seraph angel was too preoccupied to even notice him, until a commotion erupted. Not wishing to stay for the ruckus, Cygnet headed for the door, her friend Tass offering to escourt her back to Questrion Manor. But as fate is the hunter, the fallen 1st celestial being would not see her bed that night. Before she or any of the others could ascess the situation, the old man became like a
room of mirrors in a carnival fun house. No one knew what was what for all the trickery. And in a instant that was unpredictable, the old man become a hedge of vegetation, the leaves and branches enveloping the helpless angel. And as if her form a tasty morsal to savor, the hedge swallowed her whole.

The next evening, Zagaroth steps into the Golden Ivy Tavern, having just arrived from a conversation with Valmion and Jeff Oakenshield, learning details of what happened the night before. He stops in the middle of the tavern, making himself unnoticed by the patrons, and closes his purple eyes, his golden hair falling forward as he bows his head slightly, viewing the events of the night before, tasting the magic and powers that still reside in
the environs. When he opens his eyes, they glow a draconian gold, and he whispers softly to himself. "I have the taste and feel of thee. And now I hunt thee." He turns sharply, crimson cloak flaring slightly as the silver trim of his black outfit catches the light, and he walks out of the tavern, only the most aware of the patrons sensing someone was ever there. As he stands outside the tavern, Zagaroth sends out seeking threads of power into the
night, beginning his hunt, knowing he would soon be joined by others in this search. A moment later, a strangly shaped dragon form is soaring the skies, searching for any sign of his friend or her abductor.

The night Cygnet was abducted, she became fragmented by all the trickery The Seventh played upon her. After being clawed and brutalized by the different entities within the Seventh, she lay cold and alone upon a checkered stone floor in some large hall or corridor. Semi-conscious, it was all she could do to somehow guide her love Adonai to where at least he could find her psyche.

Was he really with her in the hellish place of evil and illusion? Or was she dreaming him at her side, holding her, comforting her, wiping the blood from her mouth and brow, keeping her close and safe.

The angel Cygnet closed her eyes, just glad that, be it dream or prime, she was with the one that loved her and that would keep her alive.

He hovers above the beach, almost a thousand feet up, one head craned down to view the writing, the being's residual aura having attracted his attention. He ponders over the words, which ring close to other information he had learned that evening. as the words fade, he flies off, sun glinting off his scales as he continues searching, seaking through all layers and levels of the surrounding universe, trying to find the trail or state of being
that will lead him to his quarry.

The thirteen conferred. The subject: Dad. The concern: His selfishness and ignorance.
He attempted to break from the Seventh, to regain his flesh by devouring the soul of the girl thrice murdered by his own will. But as usual, he was foiled and refused to obey the plan. Thus there would be reprocussions.
Dad had demanded the Seventh bring him the Seraph, in the belief that she would either consign her firstborn to be his vessel in the fear that he would forever take her from her "love." To teach Dad the error of his ways, the thirteen would return the Seraph to her home and the arms of this Duke. She would certainly be grateful, as would her lover... They could never hope to defeat the Seventh in any manner. The thirteen agreed and put this into
motion. After all, they had a definite profit in mind...
