I never said he wasn't within right, G. I only said that he can't let it happen without Magnus agreeing upon it.

And no grudges, Gunthar. I happen to like you. I just pointed out something that felt awkward and not ... right. Good luck.

Magnus must decline the best of three because he doesn't think he can beat Gunther more than once in a lucky shot.

I agree Lupton, he's probably hoping his champion beats Gunthar's, or he's not tested at all. Fastest way ta da crown is a single crap shot duel. Even Joe Commoner could beat Gunthar in a single duel, shows *real* skill.

Lupton and Jeff,

I don't understand. Its alright for the Warlord tournament winner to have one duel, and its alright for those challenging a Baron to have one duel, but its not alright for a Baron to challenge the Overlord with only entering one duel? Please tell me why it is to be like this.

For one, it is tradition for the warlord tourney winner to face the Overlord in one duel, but not a rule. Secondly, if the Barons had the luxuries the Overlord did, then there wouldn't be much difference between the two ranks, would there?

Dalamar used the Best of Three against a couple Tourney winners.

The Best of Three was used against them.

Oh, and also, I think that if Magnus refused the very idea of a Best of Three contest, then that is reason enough to Test him... for he obviously doesn't feel he's worthy enough to win two out of three duels.

How's that.

>>I don't understand. Its alright for the Warlord tournament winner to have one duel, and its alright for those challenging a Baron to have one duel, but its not alright for a Baron to challenge the Overlord with only entering one duel?<<

This isn't what they are saying. What they are saying is that they personally believe that you refused the Two of Three format because you thought you could win one duel more easily. They are also saying they believe that the Best of Three is the most reliable of several methods to see who really is the better duelist. They may have a point. It is certainly true that anyone can win one duel against anyone. I tend to think, however, that winning when
something is one the line is harder than winning during regular dueling hours.
Basically, Magnus, they are questioning your motives for refusing the Best of Three. Not saying that it is wrong for you to do so, but saying they think you are doing it for the wrong reasons.
I would tend to think it was wrong for you to do it. An honourable offer of even competition should be accepted, not refused. Some people might say that by refusing the Best of Three you were somewhat contradicting your belief in pure, even competition.

Ya be right Magnus, ya donnae understand... Like the Lupton and the Jeff said, the winner of the Warlord Tournament have had ta face the Best of Three. And the Baron's, if Loyal, can always 'ave the Overlordie step in there for them as well.
IMHO, this Best of Three seems an fair way of determining the head honcho of Swords, do ya nae agree? Cause ifn ya donnae agree, then I'd be questioning yer reason for stepping up ta da plate.

Alright,

Many of you do present valid reasons. But I don't appreciate really being called a coward. I know I could win two out of three duels, and all of you have convinced me to try it. So I have changed my mind and do accept the offer, if he is still willing.

And what Magnus was saying before where I partially agree with...

He didn't agree with him making his own decision of the The Best of Three and since he pushed it on him without knowing the actual way of presenting it, he punished him with the consequence of one duel. The other reason that a Baron should get a Best of Three, no, I don't understand that one. That would mean the Baron would be an almost exact replica of that Overlord.

I'm not saying it is fine to do this, but he is only pushing the Best of Three aside since the Overlord hasn't studied the rules very well. As a king/queens daughter or son, before taking on the profession of a king/queen, they usually studied all the complications and political involvements that name (king) would represent. In this way, it appears Gunthar wasn't ready. Indeed, it was only one mistake. So It doesn't really bother me. I believe
Gunthar is in the motion of learning as he goes along. Fine with me.

::reads up on the post, but only replies to one thing he finds disturbing::

Drey,
As you said I am in the learning mode, however, I did read up on all the rules, refreshing my memory from years past. I overlooked this minute detail, in my eyes simply because I have never really seen a challenger deny the best of three type series, as it is the fairest way. I only read up on the parts of the rules I had a bit of trouble understanding, not on the rules I felt I knew. It seems I shall take the time to once more read back through the
rules, as I wish to not even make small errors such as this.

Respectfully,
Gunthar O'dwyer
