The days had sped by quickly after the *incident* with Luthien. True to his word to the ghostly man, Brian had sat and waited patientlly for the elven woman to awaken from her swoon. When she did, she had explained over luncheon, the events leading up the death of his sister. Young Brian, overcome by all that was told to his little seven year old mind, was nearly lost again. The only thing that kept him from retreating into the sanctuary of his mind was the knowledge that one of the two women before him loved him as she would her own child, and that the other of them had been good friends with his sister, Pru. He knew that Pru would want him to learn to duel, and to grow up to become a fine man. He knew now that she had died so that he could. Of course in his young mind, he didn't think these things in words. Rather he felt them deeply in his soul, the way only the truly young can.

::Morte was taken aback at the arena last night when the young lad, Brian had shared with her a deep secret. He had taken a long look at the birthmark on her forehead...his little finger reachin up ta trace the outline. Then he had whispered to her o' the mark on the back o' his neck, a match to her own. He had told her that Pru had told him to always keep the mark hidden by his hair. Morte had been about to tell him about the mark's meaning when she was called to the ring. By the time she had finished, Brian was gone.::::Morte sat before the fire in her small cottage, her red eyes drawn deeply into the dancing flames. Her mind questin for the answer to this newest riddle....her voice whispers into the empty room.::"What is the meanin ta the two o' us, Goddess? and how did he come ta meet me here?"::Morte waits quietly for the answer, then finally, stands and walks from the cottage. Her heart and mind bein drawn ta Khrysta's home, and the child.::

" 'S not fair. Don't want nae stupid Mark o tha Goddess." Brian sat on a large rock, next to the stream by the cottage. He watched as another stone skipped across the water. He still hadn't told Mrs. Khrys about the birthmark. She had seen it, he knew, but she hadn't said anything about it. Maybe she didn't know what it was. He threw another stone, thinkin aloud about Sweet and her mark. "Tha' uns on 'er fore'ead..like a brand or somethun. 'Tis nae like mine. Mine's just an ole birthmark on me neck. Dark coloured an kinda ugly looking." ::He smiled quickly.:: " Tha's why Pru always made me keep it covered, acause it were ugly lookin'. nae 'cause it weren't nae mark of some goddess." ::Feeling better now that he's decided there's no mark on him, he skips one last stone across the stream, and mounts Dae's black gelding. "Ah'll be 'ome jest in time for supper. Ha, Nameless.. get along now, boy " The small child turns the large animal for home, thinking nothing about his riding with no tack or gear.... just telling the horse where he wants it to go...::
