((My apologies for the screen name, but "Phlag" seems to be taken...))
:::strolls up to the board...sees the thick layer of posts that have been added since his sudden disappearance and decides to forgo perusing them for now...gathers up pen and parchment and begins to write in his usual scrawl:::
Greetings Duelists! Before anything else, I must say that I have missed you terribly while away. Every moment was anguish--like the pain one feels in an arm that has previously been removed (all those an arm short from impromptu duels in a dark alley know what I'm saying). I have just barely come back, and already I breathe easier and a grin comes quicker to my lips.
No doubt there are many who will read this that have no idea who I am... Consider this letter a handshake of greeting to all of you; I hope soon to test your wits and your blades. I have just returned from a long journey away, but before I left I was a baron of the DoS--the number of the ring I held eludes me at the moment. A couple years ago, if memory serves me correctly ((and it does, for I just looked it up in the handy-dandy "2 years ago"
doodad)) I was a warlord just beneath Kalamere and just above Daegarth in the standings. But that is all history and means nothing in the present day. My skills will no-doubt be rusty, and I hope to lose to a great number of you shortly--I hope losing is still the best way to acquire new friends and free ale...
To all my old friends...I can't wait to see you. I have sooo many kisses to blow and winks to throw and smooooooooches to give out. The Phlag Pole is battered and worn--and my leg is still healing, so it's good for leaning upon--but it's itching for ring-play. My suite on the top floor of the Red Dragon Inn has since been leased out, so I can't retake my humble abode--I hope whoever is using it is making good use of all the amenities...the
Jacuzzi, the private dueling ring, the most amazing bed I've ever "slept" on, and certain other "less mentionables". Anyway, I have rented a small cottage on the outskirts of Rhydin, I have a new horse--his name is Banner and he's a complete stud, I've got a clearing in a nearby wood to practice in (I'm afraid I've lost Hogroth while gone, but the Pole will suffice), and I've got a reasonably soft mattress to sleep on. Meager compared to times of
old, I know, but I'm starting over and we all have to start somewhere.
I'm sad to say I've heard terrible rumors about the state the DoS is in. Many seem to think that the old ways and feelings have vanished to the point of no return. Is this true my old and new friends? It can't be. I refuse to believe it so. I will see it with my own eyes soon--I cannot bring myself to come to the rings yet, my injuries need more healing--and though I know it cannot be as poor as the rumors I've had poured in my ear, if it is
bad we will make it better.
I'm so happy to be back. I love you all. I will see you soon.
A slap on the shoulder of every gent and great big smooches to all the lovely ladies of Rhydin--and the DoS especially--who have been proven, in my travels, to be beyond comparison.
Yours once again,
Phlag
