Christopher's story
From: xxthemessengerxx@aol.com (XxTheMessengerxX)

He was all ready to go, he just had one last thing to do. The hardest thing. He had to talk with Avery about this. Avery had been busy lately, so perhaps he wouldn't miss him that much. Perhaps he wouldn't even care. Why should he? What was Christopher to Avery? Nothing, but his messenger, and Christopher had found a replacement for that. Okay, so this wouldn't be so hard. He knocked on the door, his little hands
softly raping as they connected with the wood.
"Come in" Avery's voice called for him. Avery really wasn't used to doors to much. Said they were to binding, and captured the spirit of people. He often left the barrier open, allowing the cool breeze to flow through. Christopher stepped in and smiled to Avery as they met eyes. It was a forced smile though, as he was far to nervous to actually no what he was doing. He stood there looking at Avery. A kid himself, only nineteen years of age, he
wasn't to much older. Yet his life had brought him up fast enough that he appeared much older. I mean after all there was a world of difference between him and Jesse right? And Jesse was actually older by a couple months. It was Avery's voice that brought him back.
"So, what's up. News of some sort? Don't tell me, let me guess. Gnort found a lady that would actually go home with him last night?" It was a small joke, and Avery laughed slightly. Christopher forced out a chuckle.
"I need to talk with you Avery." His voice was serious. As serious as ever. A strange tone to them both. "It's... it's kind of important."
"Go ahead" Avery nodded to him, as he sat on the floor. Even in there new house Avery still sat on the floor. He had all the furniture he could want, and yet he still sat, and sometimes slept on the floor. Wasn't new to Christopher, and so he thought nothing of it.
"Well, I have to leave. See, they found a house. They found someone that would take me into their home. They.. well they kind of live in Willik. Gerty is sending me out there to meet them and all." He paused, and just watched Avery. His eyes tried to study his friend. He knew Avery as well as anyone, and yet right now he just couldn't tell. Avery's face was blank. In fact it seem to be losing color as they spoke.
"Umm.. well... geez.." Avery's hand went to rubbing his chin. He was shocked, frozen still. He had come to count on Christopher. Christopher had become as much a part of Avery's life as any other aspect. He just now realized this. Because now Christopher was leaving. Shocked, and still frozen, he couldn't say a word. They sat in the silence for what must have been hours. It was the wail of Gabriel that brought them both out of the silence.
"Damn it Casey.... Go get Gabe." Yeah he snapped. He was mad. something that was incredibly hard for Avery to become. He controlled every aspect of his life, and yet now he lost it.
"I.. I am so sorry Avery. You know I want to stay. I want to be with you." He was trying to tell Avery everything in his heart. But it just wasn't coming out. There was no need though. They both knew what was in their hearts.
"No.. no... this is your chance. A time for you to actually have a mother and father. It's probably for the best." He couldn't actually believe that. Hell Avery didn't believe it. He didn't want him to leave, and yet he couldn't think right now.
"Well, the carriage is waiting for me. I'm leaving now. Its a long trip and all." The tears started coming. the eleven year old boy couldn't help but cry in front of Avery. It was his way of showing how much he cared. Avery stood up, and moved over to hug the kid. it was an embrace that would bond them forever. His own tears started flowing as he held tight. his last words were whispered as Christopher left the small house and got into the carriage.
"You will be back.... someday.... we will be together."

Two weeks had passed since Christopher left. Two long and crazy weeks. Christopher had set Avery up with another boy from the home, named Jonathan, to do all the stuff Avery needed. Yet, it wasn't the same. He wasn't Christopher. He wasn't the extension of life. He had word that Christopher had reached his destination all right. That brought some comfort. At least he had a family now. Someone he could love, and that
would love him. What he realized to late, was that he loved him. He could have been that family. He had spent to much time training, working to better others lives, that he forgot about those close to him. Christopher was just as much of him as his right arm was. That's why he neglected him so much. There was something to be done about it though, he knew he could get him back. This is what led him to this. To where he was. In the small office of the
orphanage. He sat looking at the woman across at the desk. She was getting old, possibly in her forties. She had started putting on some weight too. Her round face, had started to wrinkle up, and her hair started to thin out. Of course this should all be expected. She was the head of this place. She had so much responsibility that her body took the toll of it.
"I don't know if we can do this for you Avery. I mean you know what you are asking? For me to pull Christopher out of the home like that? He just went in there. I know you miss him, but he has a family now. Its for the best." She had long since stopped treating Avery like the kid he was. She knew his story, and knew that he was no true nineteen year old.
"Look I want you to get him back. If you do, Casey and I are willing to give you all the TDL money we make this year." Of course this was a lie. Casey knew nothing about this. Of course she knew, that much of there money went to charities, but she didn't know Avery was here doing this. "All of it. Think... that is a lot of money, enough for you to fix up the house, and get things you need." He stopped there, she would have to think about it he knew
this. After all, this was a bomb shell he dropped on her.
"Avery, do you honestly think Christopher would be better off in this house, than with a family? That me pulling him back would help him? I mean of course, the money would be a blessing from the gods themselves, but think of him.
"I have, and we need each other." His fist pounded the table. "Look just do this for me please. Its all I ask. Who knows... maybe we can find a family here in Rhydin for him. I mean that wouldn't be bad, cause then I would get to see him still. Gerty paused, as she looked Avery over.
"I will bring him back, send the word out today. You have one month to find him a house though. With suitable parents mind ya. If not, then I will have no choice than to send him back." These were her final words, as she leaned back. She was trying to help him, as much as she could at least.
"Oh thank you... trust me, it will be done. No problem." With that, Avery left the small office, and the boys home. Christopher was coming back.... everything would be fine again.

Christopher was back. The mood had lifted around the Shiv Blade house. No longer was Avery in his funk. His days were filled with excitement as he performed all his duties. His morning run, the lifting, and then three part work out. Yes, had you asked Avery, he would say he was in the best shape of his life. Both mentally, and physically. To believe there is nothing that can hurt you, is to know nothing can hurt you.
Some told him it was his youth thinking he was invincible. He would only shrug to that, and point out the differences between him and Jesse.
He had just came home from the studio, his hands and feet still taped up from the bag work. Casey was waiting in the kitchen the glass of water already poured as she cuddled with Gabe. Avery dropped the bag by the door, and never bothered to close it. Man he hated doors. Half the time at night, when he would get up to go check on Gabriel, he ended up running smack into one as he tried to move around the new house. His old place didn't have doors,
except the front one. Yeah, he was having to adjust, but it was worth it for the two people he loved. He gave Casey a peck on the cheek as he tickled the baby's belly. The silent smile, and laugh brought a grin to his face.
"Christopher here yet?" He picked up the glass of water, taking it all down in one drink. It was so smooth, tasted of life. He never understood why people thought it had no taste. It was taste. It was life.
"No, should he be here? I'm sorry"
"Why the hell you sorry, doll?" She was always sorry, he was so used to it now. He just started playing games with it. "Don't be sorry, Christopher is a punk brat anyway." He held a straight face.
"He is?" Her eyes shot open, as she grabbed for Gabriel, kinda afraid now. After all Christopher was basically part of the family.
"No. Come on Casey, you know Christopher. Kid couldn't kick a horse to make it go. Besides... he aint coming for another half an hour."
"Ah," she smiled that smile. You know the one that usually only lovers know. The one that no matter where you are, when it comes to life, you can feel them. It was that one. Avery sat the glass down, and went to the bedroom to take the tape off, and prepare for the lake.

((A.N. Well see I started this and already goofed. heh. Okay, so lets put it here. All these events happened in the past. The first one happened roughly a month ago. The second one happened 2 weeks ago, and the last one about a week ago. Of course everyone knows that Christopher was gone, and so I set it all up. Umm.. yeah, so this is actually gonna have turns and twists in it. People will be coming to join and what not.
If people want to join, just ask me, and I am sure this time some might actually want to when they see where this leads to. It should be pretty obvious when people will be able to join. Umm, I am trying my hardest to get caught up to present, and explain the sickness and all, and that will start the actual SL. So yeah, sorry about the time line thing, but I had to set this all up. Some people might come and post before I get caught up to present, but
with any luck they will put the tag that it is present on the post. Thanks all, continue with your day.

**(Note: These happenings occured near a week ago, adjacent with the fishing trip))
snap....
His murky pools of grayish white snapped open. His body froze, as did his breath...
crack....
He knew he wasn't imagining it, his hand crept toward his large knife. His ears remained keen as he staired off into the tar black emptyness, beyond the dim light given by the dieing embers of the fire. The sound of steps ceased, his pools scanned the lining of the the woods once, then once more. The soft lining of a figure could be made out just beyond the radiating light's edge. Slowly he lifted his body to a knee, then two, until at last he was
standing. He had no belongings with him aside from the attire he wore, as well as slept in. After long moments he spoke in a half arrogent, half threatening tone.
"Sho' yehself."
Just beyond the shadows a heavy breathing could be heard, unwavering. After a long pause the sillouette figure moved forward. The face gave off an eery appearance as the light hit the scarred tissue. The man stood just at light's edge, dressed entirely in black. At last he spoke, or rather hissed several words.
"The package was delivered."
Bargos let off what appeared to be a smile, a massive boot dragged across the forest floor, coming to rest a large pace nearer the man.
"Goo'. Di' all go as't planned?"
The figure nodded.
"Aye, neither the young man, nor the boy suspected a thing. Now, my money."
Bargos turned, his back now facing the man, his arms folded.
"In time yeh will beh well, rewarded. Thi' nae beh deh time. Weh have more wor' teh do. Beh off. Ah wi' contac' yeh whe' read'eh."
The figure nodded, stepping back out of the light's edge. And like that, he was gone.

"Damn blood sucking mosquitos!" Avery swatted at his arm again trying to get rid of the bugs that kept after him. "By the time I get home, I am going to have more bumps on my body than Var does after a match with me." Christopher laughed at that one. He found this comical to say the least. Of course he was getting bit too, but that didn't stop him from laughing at Avery.
"I ever tell you about that time with the vampires?" Avery turned to look at him, not sure if he had.
"You fought Vampires before?" Oh yes, he was ready for this story. God how he loved to hear the stories of Avery fighting.
"Hell no boy. You kidding me? Damn things would have torn me a new one. I ran, and ran far. Hell I wasn't more than your age when it happened. Fight vampires. Heh. That's good. Now you're sounding as smart as ol' Cas. Fight vampires. I tell you what. You ever have the chance to run in a fight, vampire or no, you run. That's the best option Christopher." Christopher leaned back, that story was over with.
"I thought you were going to teach me how to fight?"
"I will, in do time. But you have to learn to use your brain first. That's what makes a fighter. And running is what keeps you alive. Aint no reason to be a hero. Fight Vampires... Heh." He ran his hand through Christopher's hair messing around with him as he chuckled.
The fishing lines were out in the water, just sitting there. Just frozen in time, as nothing came to even check them out. Not a single bite in the last three hours. Well, unless you count all the mosquitos biting the two of them.
"Damn things are annoying. If I wanted to be pricked this much, I would have tried sewing or something" Avery leaned back as he watched the lake water. the light ripples that ran over it, as the wind caressed the surface. Christopher just smiled, and went back to aimlessly drawing images in the sand.
There was a purpose for them to be out here, a good one. Avery just hadn't brought it up yet. See, the month was about to end. And that meant that Christopher was going to be needing a family. Someone to stay with, so he could stay in Rhydin. Avery had finally given in to what he knew was right. He was going to adopt the young frail kid that sat by him. He was going to bring him into the family that he had just created. It was the right thing to do,
the right step in the progression of things. He had talked with Casey, and she thought it was a great Idea. Well, not at first. She was unsure until Avery brought up the fact that Christopher could help baby-sit the kid for them sometimes. That was the kicker, as she gave in. Now it was just time for him to officially ask him. Oh, he knew the answer, just had to make sure its what he wanted.
He had already talked with a few people about the process, and knew that he could probably get this to fly. Almost everything was falling right into place. Just had to ask, yep, just ask. That's what he had been saying for the last two and a half hours. That, and cursing out the mosquitos.
"So Christopher.... I was wondering... " he took a deep breath as he was getting ready to plunge into the question. The kid was looking at him, having no clue that his life was about to change. The circle was about to become complete.
"I was wondering if.... Holy sweet Bridgette!!!!!!" A large mosquito must have bit him on the neck. His hand went to brush the stinging spot as he winced. "Damn thing must have had fangs." He looked to Christopher and just sort of smiled, as he shook his head some. "Maybe it was a vampire" and with that he gave a slight wink.

Christopher for the past few days had been the eyes and ears of Avery. With him being sick and all, he was forced to go watch the matches. He was forced to attend the events in his presence. Recording the events, and then relaying the information back to Avery that night. This meant that Christopher was having to do a lot of moving. From one side of the town to the next as he ran about doing Avery's work. Damn did that
man get around, but then again with the displacement spell this would all be a lot easier. Christopher actually had a couple of his friends helping him out, just because there was so much work going on.
It was funny though. He had started hearing things. Or at least he thought he had. Crossing through the alley that one night when he went to the warlords tournament. He could have sworn he heard something, but could only guess it to be a cat. Regardless the youth which couldn't milk a cow for fear of hurting it, ran away, trying to get far from the noise. Then there was the time he was going to the TDL match, and he had to cross into the market. Was
it him, or was that shadow looking at him? Was it actually following him like the moon follows the sun? Cloaked in secrete in the ever changing dance?
More and more he started noticing the sounds, making him stay to the main roads. This made him late for more than one event, but at least he had stopped hearing the sounds as much. Yes, something strange was going on here, and his only wish was for Avery to get better, so things would go back to normal.

Had it been so long since she had been to the Arena? Summer stood at the open doorway looking down upon the warlords readying for the second round of the tourney. She spied someone special, lounging near a ring. By his smile, she knew his first round must have gone well, damn he still looked good after all these years. Jeff looked up and opened his arms in a welcoming gesture. Summer moved to go to him, then
stopped. Casey, Avery's wife, was lingering in the doorway. She looked drawn, and unusally quiet as she watched a ranting Avery staggering around the rings.
Avery!. The young man's face was as pale as grass with a glaze of sweat sheening in the torch light. His eyes were heavy lidded and his dry lips were cracked open to expose a swollen tongue . He sucked the tongue against the roof of his mouth creating a horrid lisp while he talked. He was ranting about how he could not go home, how he could not infect his child with his illness.
"Casey?" Summer inquired cocking an eyebrow. Jeff followed Summer's troubled glance and snorted, "He best go home to the Manor Summer luv." Summer answered, "AYE, it do seem ta Avery bent on infectin' us all wi' he case o' flu. Ya hae nae ta worra for ta babe Avery, he be kept well away. But if ya nae get yaself back to ta Manor, now, we all gonna hog tie ya for exposin' our sorry arses."
Avery relented, though half of what he was now ranting seemed nonsense to Summer. As he staggered off with Casey, Summer finally went to her husband's arms whispering, "Tha' be nae ta flu luv, I nae know wha' it be, but it nae ta flu."

More days had past, and now Avery was bed ridden. His body going into contortions, with every breath. What was once thought to be the flu was no longer. Summer was right in her thinking, that this just couldn't be something so simple. Avery refused all doctors though. After his last run in, it was hard to blame him though. The last healer sent his body into a world wind of horror, where his body shifted personalities.
He wasn't about to subject himself to that again, and perhaps not have the chance to ever become Avery again. So, he just suffered the pain, taking what analgesic he could here and there.
The sweat poured from his pores as his skin took on the clammy look. His hair now completely messed up as he hadn't cleaned himself in the last four days. His tongue was swollen up immensely now, made it almost impossible to draw breath. Yet, even that was a chore, as it seemed his body refused the oxygen. Every intake causing his sides to irrupt in fire, and his body to quiver in pain.
Summer and Jeff, along with his wife were doing everything they could for him. Ever time it seemed he must get better, he only got worse. Which is why after all the pain, and all the suffering, Avery sent out Christopher to bring a healer. Someone that could possibly help him to live, rather than sit here and die.

Irritated, his hand drummed on the table. In the corner he sat, watching, concealed in the shadows. All that was left for him was to wait, but how long? One hour, then two passed, yet no sign. The other patrons gathered at the bar kept their distance from Bargos. Drinking, laughing, the people were as sheep, what did their existence even matter? From the obese man drinking his life away, to the young courtesan flashing bosom in attempt to gain
a day's pay. All the while her customer's wives remained at home, slaving themselves in attempt to avoid a beating when their husband's arrive home in a drunken, primitive, mind set. He waited, then at last the man appeared through the thinning crowd. The man opted to stand, rather than sit, his business exactly that, business. Which did not exactly bother Bargos, the man was just another pond in the game, he meant nothing. Bargos uttered the first
words, the foul stench of alcohol caressing his breath.
"We'? How long is't it suppose teh take?"
The man replied, his very words stained with the sin's of his doings, wrought from years of penny picking, the life's destroyed paying solely for his enjoyment of the woman.
"I told you, the poison takes time, but the man should be dead in less than two night's ends."
Bargos's lips curled into a delighted grin.
"Goo' goo'. An' deh boy? Have yet bee' keepin' track of em? Does he suspec' an'ehthin'?"
The man looked over his shoulder, pausing for a long moment. He searched, only after a brief pause did he convince himself it was his imagination.
"Yes, I have been trailing the boy, a cute fellow. And remember the deal, no harm goes to the boy once the man... Avery was it? Is dead."
Bargos stood, passing by the man en route to the door, patting the man once on the back as he did. Just as he brushed past his ear, he spoke.
"Of course, ah love kids, ah once had one mehsel'."
