::Reads the latest slew of posts on the boards, decides he should at least try and restore some semblance of peace. Nods at Robert's words, agreeing wholeheartedly before thinking about what he himself should say:: What we have here, in my opinion, is a lot of people talking and nobody bothering to listen to what their opponents have to say. We don't all have to be best friends or even like one another, but we should respect each other. Here are just a few things we should keep in mind…What we should do (1)--Make our points in a calm and rational manner. What we should not do (1)-- Yell and scream and rant and rave and insult each other. What we should do (2)--Think about what we speak and write before we do so.What we should not do (2)--Speak and or write in anger or out of spite. What we should do (3)--Realize that the other person has a right to their opinion. What we should not do (3)--Think that you, and only those that agree with you, are right and everyone else's points are invalid. What we should do (4)--Avoid insults and other, similar language. What we should not do (4)--Call each other names, disrespecting both others and ourselves. What we should do (5)--Realize that the other person has feelings too. Would you appreciate similar comments directed towards you? What we should not do (5)--Feel free to toss insults and bash people for thinking differently than you. What we should do (6)--Listen to the other person and keep an open mind. What we should not do (6)--Read or hear the opposing point(s) but ignore and dismiss them because they go against our own thoughts. What we should do (7)--Realize that the argument transcends the persons directly involved and has an effect on others. What we should not do (7)--Think that what you say has no consequences or effect on others. What we should do (8)--Be willing to compromise and willing to admit you might be wrong. What we should not do (8)--Be unwilling to admit fault because of ego or pride. With those few points, I leave you with this thought… "A people's literature is the great textbook for real knowledge of them. The writings of the day show the quality of the people as no historical reconstruction can." --Edith Hamilton, U.S.Classical Scholar
