Petition for the Baron's Council

Post by DoS Archive » Thu Oct 28, 2004 6:20 pm

From: quickvarmg@aol.com (QuickVarMG)

This is the first letter I have written to Val demanding he give the Council the right to make the decision regarding Drey's challenge to Avery. More to come, unless Val agrees to give the Council the right to make the decision.

~~~~~~~~~
Valentine Evermeadow,
This is the first of a series of letters (at least from me) demanding you give the Baron's Council the right to make the decision regarding the Avery vs. Drey challenge. When a duelist involved in a challenge breaks the rules of engagement, the matter is turned over to the Council of Barons to decide the fate of the challenge.
On behalf of the Council of Barons and the Duel of Swords community, I demand you take a sit down like a good supervisor and let the Barons do the thinking, as is our right.
Var Medici-Giovanni
~~~~~~~~~

I encourage all other barons who write to Val demanding to be given the right to vote, to put the note up here, so all may see.

Valentine,

To put it lightly, your actions and letters are very disturbing. I have lost all confidence in you and the position you hold. You have no right to ignore the rules of engagement. Turn this matter over to the Baron's council where it belongs.

You're all wrong. The Coordinator of the Sport has the final say in everything. Let it stay this way so Lupton can retire, and people can whine about how wrong this all is until the next stupid arguement comes along.

That's all the Arena is turning into, stupid arguements.

Everyone, and I do mean Everyone, needs to use their heads for a change. And not the ones at waist level.

To the poor, neglected egos of the Barons,

I honestly could not care less how much you inundate me with your letters of protest. I'm currently in a shortage for kindling anyway, and could use the aid.

Simply put, the so-called rights of you Barons who have absolutely nothing to do with the specifics of this challenge do not supercede the rights of Baron Starke, one of the two that is directly involved. He could just as easily withdrawn his challenge a few days ago, and the lot of you would have nothing to whine about as you are doing. It is his choice, and it is his challenge, not yours.

As one post already mentioned, there is, in fact, precedent for this type of discussion. And this is coming from one who has never been a big supporter of mine. I have stated several times before, but will do so again for the benefit of you who have conveniently blocked it out. This extension has nothing to do with my relationship with Overlord Blade. I've met him exactly twice, and the only thing I remember is him whining about something that
he didn't like that I was not even a part of. If the Overlord was the outrageously obnoxious Jesse Troyan or even the stunning Lady Starfare, I would still have granted an extension for this special situation.

On a personal note, and this did not factor into my decision at the time, but I don't trust some members of the council to successfully pick their collectives noses, much less come to an informed and rational consensus. My decision stands.

Lord Evermeadow~

When I first read the pages upon pages of missives on this cork concerning the subject, believing that the cries of "tyrant" and other assembled pitchfork and torch waving of the mob had gone beyond the line, I felt bad for you.

Now, after reading your latest missive, I no longer do. You, sir, are a servant of this community and to call those you serve as "poor, neglected egos", "obnoxious" and damn near call them incompetant not to mention calling the Overlord a whiner is not only stepping over the line, it's diving *well* past it.

It is not your gods bedamned place to "trust" the Council. They are there whether you will it or no and there will be a Council long after you've gone.

I am not calling you on your decision, as there has been precedent for such a situation in time long past, but your attitude. Calling you a tyrant is not quite on the mark. All you are is an insolent whelp having a temper tantrum who needs to be put over his father's knee. Why were you given this position if you were not ready for it? If you act this way on such a situation as this, how are you going to act when a larger crisis comes?

Gods above, Valentine, grow up!

Sid,

Tell me to grow up, cause I feel the same way as he does. Oh, wait. I have a right to my opinion because I'm not staff. Bah.

In short..

I say everything Val does, with exception to me actually making a ruling, cause I'm not staff.

Otherwise.. Oh, the poor neglected egos of the Baron's Council and so forth.

That would be hypocrisy then, Sid. Think of all the insults thrown at him. I think you're just arguing to argue.

And it sure doesn't look like a "temper tantrum" on his part.

>He could just as easily withdrawn his challenge a few days ago,>

Reading through those words of the Supervisor brings a frown to Sartan's face as he sinks back into thought, trying to remember a point in time where someone had stated the Challenger couldn't withdraw a challenge after it was in the hands of the Council. He thought it might have been Helix, but he just didn't know for sure.

With a shrug after a moment's time, he set off on his way again, not giving it much more thought.

Valentine Evermeadow,
This is my second petition demanding you give the Baron's Council the right to vote on the issue regarding Avery and Drey. It is our right as a Council to vote for this matter.

You know Var......does like Val hold all the pencils and papers here....cause the council could easily vote on tis amongest themselves then post what the council feels is right. I don't remember people ever needing to ask the super's permission to hold a essembly. Yes your vote would mean nothing, but you'd have more weight behind your arguement if the whole council stood against Val and not just a few
members speaking out.

No, Var, it isn't.

#1. Did Avery miss a date?
#2. Is it not the Coordinator of the Sport who has the final say in everything?
#3. Did the Coordinator not already make a ruling?
#4. Are those involved already not in agreement?
#5. Why do you think the Baron's council is the end all, be all of every single challenge?
#6. Even if the Barons Council voted to strip Avery, do you not realize that as Coordinator of the Sport, Val can overrule that judgement, making the Council, in this matter, a waste of time.

You see, The Coordinator of the sport has already ruled. There's no reason for it to go to council. Drey has already agreed that the extension is okay, even if he was told a bit late. Avery was -Never- declared in Forfiet of his Title, therefore, it doesn't go to the council.

Your petitions are for naught. This isn't a council matter, nor should it be. Were I still On that council, I'd roll my eyes and tell you all to get over it.

But I'm not on the council.. However...

Get Over Yourselves. This is NOT a Council Matter, NOR should it have been.

Sheesh.

#6. Even if the Barons Council voted to strip Avery, do you not realize that as Coordinator of the Sport, Val can overrule that judgement, making the Council, in this matter, a waste of time."

Avery has gone past the rules of engagement as of the 18th of this month, saying he simply could not make the challenge, apparently. Drey has not even produced said letter, so Avery is being allowed to fight the challenge past the three week period for no reason given.
If you have read my words, you'll see why I am petitioning and not just having the council vote on the matter. Not only would I be abusing the power of the council by calling them to make a decision, without having Val call us to task, but I am aware that Val could overturn the ruling. This is why I petition, so Val will hand us the right, and to guarantee that he will not overturn our ruling unless it is unjust.

The very first rule of the Baron's Council states:
" 1. A Baron's Council shall be convened in the occurrence of a Baron or the Overlord retiring while a challenge is pending or in the case of a forfeit."
The matter is a case of forfeit, for Avery has gone over the three week waiting period and being given an extension for no apparent reason.
It seems you need to work on your reading, G. I made it quite clear why I am petitioning, and it is quite clear in the rules that a council is to be convened in the case of the Rules of Engagement being broken.
Phantom, this issue is a matter of principle. Perhaps there would be more weight against Val if the council were to vote without being called upon, but I am petitioning for the sake of the council, and to make sure we are not reduced to pawns, and have Val treat any instance like it's his own playpen.
