Notice of Demise

On the twenty fifth day of the month of the Serpent
the Lady Beka,
of the Queens' Calvary
Protectorate of Verdun
was stricken down whilst defending her people.

Her honor and generosity sung throughout
the lands will, henceforth, ring with a mournful timbre.

A memorial will be held at the Capital City
for any that wish to pay last respects.

Ti'Alur light her path and grant her peace.

Valance read the notice again, it's words were faded and the edges torn. He had searched for nearly four hours through the bundles of papers that covered the kiosk to find it, it was as if he-needed-to know it was there.

It had been almost two years ago, he wasn't sure if it seemed longer or shorter. They had been friends, he had met her while going through training what seemed like an eternity ago. They seemed to compliment each other well enough, he helped her perfect a double handed style while she gave her time toward practicing the complex marching patterns with him.

He chuckled softly at the memory of their first mock victory in the training camp; they had slaughtered the opposing team, they both earned honors for the competition.

Val drew in a deep breath and let out a sigh. Women of her caliber, he thought, or more to the point people of her caliber were few and far between.

Tyrin, Beka's brother, had set for him to complete wasn't one he truly wanted to do but he owed Tyrin too much to refuse and so he replaced the old announcement and moved over toward the Fourth Ring. It didn't take him long to gather the proper flag, one that bore Beka's family crest, and to fold it respectfully and carefully into a satchel he had brought with him.

With one last sigh he placed the announcement by Tyrin up upon the board.

His duty done, he turned for one last glance around the arena. Val could almost make himself believe that Beka would approve of this action taken by her brother ... almost. He had no true opinion of the people that frequented this place, he himself rarely went here and he had not even read one post authored by those warriors until today.

Tyrin insisted that Beka would be horrified by the politics and petty bickering that he, meaning Tyrin's assistants, observed of late.

Val held his bundle close to his chest as he allowed his thoughts to drift back far enough to pull up a memory of Beka's face as she laughed ... he wouldn't want that memory locked in this place either.

His steps seemed a little heavier as he left to deliver the banner to it's home in Verdun.
