Results of Second Icedancer Challenge

On the thirteenth day of the seventh month in the Terran year of nineteen-hundred and ninety-eight, Roland Sal Roa did face Shannon Kimberly Colton in a best two of three match to battle for the right to possess Icedancer, the Blue Opal. The matches were highly anticipated and those who attended were by no means disappointed by what they saw. For those unable to attend, here's a summary of what occurred.

Match One:

Ring: Down in a Hole (a.k.a. "The Pit)

Comments: Even as Harris was taking bets and wondering how to cover them should he lose, Shannon and Roland began their first duel. An offense driven match, both duelers applied a series of brutal punches and kicks intending to establish their dominance in the ring. Unfortunately for each, their skills appeared completely matched, and the first eight points (four to each dueler) were scored upon
mirror moves! However, Shannon was able to use her superior experience in the ring to defeat the ex-mercenary with the "Diamond Cutter," taking a five to four victory in seven rounds.

Intermission: None.

Match Two:

Ring: Stinkfist

Comments: Neither dueler desired a break and while the floorboards closed to re-cover the Pit, Shanni and Roland entered a nice normal type ring. Too late did I remember the incident between that ring and a particular skunk the night before and the match had already begun. I can only imagine just how pungent the odor was in there.
Just as experience benefited Shanni in the first duel, so did youth assist Roland in this match. Wasting no time on defense, Roland mounted an offensive attack that perhaps caught the current Opal holder off-guard. Quickly jumping to a 3-0 lead, Roland's confidence mounted and finally culminated in a jab that took him to a 5-2 win over Shanni in seven rounds.

Intermission: None.

Match Three:

Ring: Styx

Comments: Again, with no respite, the duelers mounted the fifteen-foot high "ring" and commenced the third and final match. To say this one was a nail-biter doesn't even come close. Roland again took the early lead, sensing that victory could be his. But in the eighth round, Shannon grabbed a one point lead, her first since the opening duel. But Roland was not too be denied and he quickly mounted a counterassault that sent the duel into Sudden
Death. And there it stayed...and stayed...and stayed. The audience witnessed mounted offense the likes of which has not been seen in a long long time. Four of the next five rounds saw points awarded to each, and at the end of the fourteenth round the score stood at seven points apiece. Knowing the duel would continue until a winner could be declared, Shanni and Roland steeled themselves for yet more combat. But the time for duel's end was at
hand, and even as Roland launched his air assault, Shanni looked deep into her reserves and put it all on the line with an uppercut that not only secured her victory but may have ended Roland's genetic line right then and there. Tired, beaten, and weary, both duelers must have been glad the night was at an end.

Overall Results:

Shannon Kimberly Colton did defend the right to bear Icedancer, the Blue Opal, by defeating Roland Sal Roa two matches to one as witnessed by all those present in the Outback. Congratulations to you both on a fine display of cunning and skill.
