The horseman pauses looking down into the river roaring past him in it's endless trip to the sea and takes out his journal to add a few words

Restless swirling waters muddy with lands blood
tumble towards the sea
Overhead plaintive gulls mourn the passing of day
are suddenly blown away by restless winds
Back to wind
I watch the churning water
finding its monologue
counterpoint to my life

Minutes, hours, years have sailed by
elusive as flowing water
the too steal blood
carrying it to a different sea

No reflections in muddy water
No signs of having once been
No hint of what will be

Deep inside me
a responsive chord vibrates and then I know
soon, I too will make my last journey
to the waiting sea

Finishing the words the horseman puts the journal away and notes ahead a dark tower overlooking the river will be his next stop. "So many dark towers, so little light" he softly speaks to the roaring river.

Grinning, he loosens the sword in it's worn sheath and gently nudges the horse forward towards the gathering dusk.
