There's an alley just a short ways down from the Inn that hardly looks like an alley anymore. The walls are festooned with shards of coloured glass, hung by strings to catch the sunlight in the mornings.....Dangling bits of wire, discarded pieces of armor and a riotous clash of colorful ribbons help to complete the decoration.

And just inside, just barely visible from the street, lays a singed doormat.....the word welcome woven into it in many languages. Despite all this, or maybe because of it, the only creatures that venture in are the cats.....and Maetel, of course.

But we'll come back here later. For now, let's go over to the space-port and that enigmatic black tower. Normally, we couldn't get passed the security, but let's imagine that we have.....there are several things I know you'd like to see.

There, in that office, let's listen in on what those three men are saying, shall we? The Director looks upset.....I wouldn't want to be in there.

"What do you mean you can't retrieve the Subject, Nekkenwande?"

"Sir, according to the survalience reports, Subject Seventeen has established a fortified position in a location that.....to be blunt sir, it would be suicide for our troops to attempt retrieval." Look at the way he's shuffling those papers.....he's clearly nervous about this. "In addition, though the Subject has made very few close attachments, it has become affiliated with two separate organizations.....One of which has ties to a local monarchy."

"I don't care! Hire local mercenaries if you have to! I want the Subject back in the lab and under Tenekawana's knife before the board meeting, do you understand me?"

"Yes sir!" they shout in unison, almost falling over each other in their haste to get out the door. But wait....Menendez isn't going back to the lab.....Let's follow him.

He's taking the service elevator down to the garage.....and waiting there is, of all things, a horse-drawn carriage. Let's listen in again.

"Madam Director. Everything is going according to your plans. Nekkenwande has been ordered to hire locals to aid in the retrieval of the subject."

Look at her smile.....so like a viper's. "Excellent. I am just on my way to meet with Titan's CEO. We shall work to ensure the locals he hires are our locals. You are proving more useful every day, Doctor."

Now the coach is leaving, wending it's way through the town, past the curiously decorated alleyway.....taking the woman to a meeting that may end up having ramifications more startling than anyone might expect.
