Challenge to the Sixth - Matter for the Barons Council
From: hostpcgstormi@aol.com (HOST PCG Stormi)
Date: 12 Apr 2001 22:38:47 EDT
::Stepping to the cork she tacks a notice to the forefront for public access. As scribed by HOST PCG Stormi to the DoS Council of Barons.::
Overlord, Barons, Baronesses, Warlord and Officials:
As you can see by the letter I have enclosed Baron Oakenshield has not responded to the challenge issued forth by Warlord Tidewater in a timely manner and I therefore turn this matter over to the Council for their decision. I have no doubts that the Council will make a decision based on the best interest of the Community; but I do ask that your decision be handled in a timely manner as the Warlord has been patient and has followed the rules that
govern this sport. In the same manner, Baron Oakenshield has been a long standing member of this Sport and has always held the values we seek in high regard.
Your decision is not an easy one and I don't envy the burden placed upon your shoulders. I wish you a level head and a forgiving heart as you undertake this task.
Sincerely,
~HOST PCG Stormi~

::Enclosed time/date stamped letter from Warlord Tidewater is tacked below.::

<< To the "officials" of the sport, So-called Fearless Leaders of the sport, and mainly, this guy, Jeffrey Oakenshield:
Basically, the way this goes down is, I blow through this
Arena so easily, make the hallowed rank of Warlord by taking down a few clowns, and then I decimate ten of the top ranked duelist of the sport, some feat. Way I figure, I'm allowed to try and get my hands on one of those 13 shiny rings, and I want one. I'm a fashionable guy. Why buy something when you could just take it, right? Anyway, I look through the
ranks of you chumps to see which one of you I want to embarass next. I figure to make a statement, I take out the best of you all, and from what I hear and seen on the standings, Oakenshield is the best. Plus, he's a dwarf, and I was like beating the physically challenged.
So here's notice: Baron Jeffrey Oakenshield, I'm challenging you for the 6th. Sleep tight.

Tis a pure shame, one man that would make Ramsus look as foolish as he sounds and the lad falls off the face o' the earth.
Don't dally too long Barons, the barnacles on Ramsus may anchor him in place

As sent to the Council:
Council,
My vote is to hold the Baron in forfiet and let the Warlord decide whether he wishes to fight a champion or have his credentials returned to him. Should he go for the former, we would then vote on the champion.
My reasons are simple: The Baron knows the rules and failed to abide by them, so he is at fault. The Warlord may have wanted to fight the Baron only and not go for the numbered ring. Therefore, it should be his choice as to whether or not the challenge for the ring continues.

Though I have the utmost respect for Baron Oakenshield in the ring, his callous attitude towards the duels over the last six months has left me little choice but to vote to strip him of his title. I wish to give the Warlord a choice of either facing a champion, or challenging another. I have written him regarding this and await a response.

I agree that Jeff has not replied in a timely manner and that the title should be placed up for the taking. I do not say this maliciously but out of necessity.
Since he cannot duel Jeff, I believe the warlords peer wins should be returned, and his right of challenge for this cycle retained. Look at the records ladies and gentlemen, no champion can take the place of Baron Oakenshield, perhaps the gauntlet of a Warlords Tourney will come close.

Baron's Council,
I would venture to offer my services as a Champion for the Baron's ring should you chose to strip Oakenshield of the title and allow Warlord Tidewater to proceed. Whether in just pure defense of the title, or for the right to wear the ring as well. I have the necessary credentials to challenge for the title as well, but would be just as happy for the right to test Warlord Tidewater with no potential chance of reward should I become
victorious. I would suggest a Best of Three series if a Champion were chosen.
Leaving the ring open till the next Warlord's Tourney is just as viable of an option as well, but I think Warlord Tidewater's desires should be consulted as well. I was the first dueler to challenge for title and then have the person I challenged retired after I challenge them, so I understand how the Warlord feels. Though I was challenging the person who took the title from me and it was of a personal nature to challenge, I am sure Warlord
Tidewater had his reasons for challenging as well.
Needless to say I do believe that Oakenshield should be stripped of the title for failing to follow the rules of the sport and to honor the title that he bears. I look forward to the Council's wisdom on the matter.

personally, I would suggest to the estemed barons the their senior member,Unagi Myamoto serve as the champion No offense to Elijah but the challenger di challenge a Baron.
I for one agree that the name of Oakenshield is not one deserving any ill tongued snipings, He has more wins than any other duelist in the history of the Duel of Swords and his failure to respond makes we wonder about his well being.

I'll make this simple.
No one will replace the skill of Jeff. As his housemate and friend, I will offer my humble skills as his replacement, if the council so chooses. I do this as a former holder of the sixth, and for a brother. A brother that once pledged loyalty to myself when I held the Overlord title.
I offer my services if needed, and further wish only to step in. I have no care to hold a ring at this time. Just to uphold the challenge set to Jeff.

As a few questions have arisen by my vote I sent this to the Council as a partial explanation.
The reason I voted as I did is that I do not believe in punishing someone that obeyed the rules of the sport. Did this Warlord challenge Unagi, or Galin, or any other on this council? Why should he be thrown against an unknown or unwanted person?
He did everything right. Give him back his peer wins, his right of challenge and allow him to choose whom he wishes to meet in the ring.
Ellisa
The point has been brought up that the Warlord has not yet stated his preference. If it is his preference to face a champion then I will throw my vote to that as I do not wish to impose such a decision upon the Warlord.

Rules are rules, period. A Baron did not respond to a challenge in the time allowed. I don't care who the Baron is, the rule was broken.
If I killed someone in an area where killing is not allowed but they allow me to get away with it, what leasson is learned? Everyone can kill and get away with it.
