Be it known that the winner of the recent Warlords Tournament, Ralez Rastlin, has exercised his right to challenge.
We have agreed to duel on this upcoming Friday eve about the 9th hour.
The match will be a single bout and should prove to be a good duel from what I have seen of this duelist.
This warlord has carried himself with a great deal of honor hence the offer of a single match.
Come join us if it is your desire

Since when is a single match an offer to the
winner of the Warlord Tourney?

Since before there was a Best of Three option even in the rules, Sartan.

Relatively recent Overlord Challenges resulting from a Warlord Tourney and fought in Bof3 format include:

Overlord Lucian
The gypsy, Jaycynda Ashleana, battled her way through the first quarter Warlord Tournament of 2001 to claim the free duel against the Overlord. Though later reported that the two were somewhat involved, Jaycy issued challenge and the two met. The two met in a best of three, and in the end, all three would need to be fought.

Ovelord Daelin Dragonsblade
It is uncommon for a Warlord Tourney winner to face a Best-of-Three match against the Overlord, but not completely unheard of. When Daelin offered it, Taylara agreed, and gave a fine showing. The challenge went through all three matches, and Taylara took the first and last by 5 - 3 in seven and six respectively, to become the 40th Overlady of the Duel of Swords.

Overlord Avery Shiv Blade
When Leo de Lorenzo took second place at the first quarter Warlord Tourney, he did not share Cas's opinion that high placement was prize enough. He exorcized his hard-won right to challenge, and faced Avery in a Best-of-Three match.

Also, Eros DeBurgo granted the Bo3 to Eric Siadek, finalist in the 1st quarter 1999 WLT.

Dalamar Ar'Daumon gave the Bo3 to Skyler Jackson Chamberland, the winner of the 2nd Quarter 1998 WLT(incidentially, I still haven't figured out how *Skyler* could win a 40 duelist tournament) as well as to Eros DeBurgo, the finalist of the 4th Qurter 1997 WLT.

Also, I feel that had I taken the shot against Avery, that duel would most likely have been a Bo3.

Sartan,

My thoughts on the best of three come from the precedent set by not only Cletus Ganderfald, but those mentioned by the others, and are simple. I always thought the Best of Three was in lieu of a Test of Wortiness and since a winner of a warlord tournament is given an interecession free shot, why should he face a best of three?
Having spoken to the warlord, and having been challenged respectfully and in accordance to the rules, I showed him the same curtesy, and gave him the choice.
I hope that clears things up.

Seamus,

Apparently, my recollection of the histories isn't what it once was. I was fairly sure that the winner of the Warlord's Tourney had always been given a single shot at the Overlord. The more recent Tourneys aside, the one Cassius pointed out is one I can't seem to recall. I do remember Skyler taking third in a Tourney, and Billy forfeiting his prize to him, but beyond that..

Regardless, my apologies.
