A lapse in courage perhaps?

Most distinguished clientele of the Duel of Swords,

Last evening I deigned to grace you with my presence in my unending search for amusement. My intent was to defeat Aya Haysomthing and remove her hair. Aya of course opted the route of the craven.

Lord Arithon the pompous ass that he is and the mental cripple called E along with some foolish young upstart named Adus talked a lot but none were willing in the end to step into the ring for fear of the cost. If you would attempt to interfere with me when I play then there is a cost.

Aya used words, ineptly as usual. Jehanne attempted to come to her aid with ridiculous attempts to correct grammar as if grammar were of any importance in the Duel of Swords.

So, I have been balked in my pursuit of Aya by her cowardice in general and her fear of losing precious hair. A coward dies a thousand deaths one of your cattle philosophers once said. By now Aya should be well along that road.

Since Aya is the protege of Angelina Darkling then Angelina perhaps would step forward and defend the honor of her "child" Aya.

I am a sporting man and offer this. I will fight Angelina and then anyone she wishes to name as her champion in the Duel of Swords at 10:00 p.m. by the eastern clock on a Friday or Saturday evening. Both Angelina and her champion are free to use there best talents of course. That is only fair to them.

If I win then Aya will give me one lock of her hair as punishment to be used in a raising that has little to do with the DoS. If I lose both matches then I will accept banishment for a period of sixty days.

Aya can of course develop some backbone and step forward which would preclude the need for all this messiness. If she does chose to step forward then of course it is just a simple duel between her and I and the champion and banishment are not in play.

Take your time or accept promptly, either way it should be amusing.

Severe,

As per usual, you have a great deal of facts in error. This does not surprise me given your obvious lack of intellect. Allow me to correct your very many mistakes.

1. Aya opted the route of the craven.
I did no such thing. You were the one who wished to face me. It was you who in fact, attempted specifically to "goad" me into fighting you. I am far from weak willed, fool. And thusly, I already have defeated you by not stepping in a ring. Were you a wise person, which you are not, you would realize how utterly pathetic I made you look.

2. Lord Arithon, E, and Adus, each, had challenged you to duel. You neglected to accept any of their offers, and they then went on to better choices anyway. This is far from them not being willing to step in the ring against you. This is them choosing not to wait for you to come out of your shell and accept their challenge.

3. Aya used words, ineptly as usual.
My, how the small minded cannot realize when they are far outclassed. Your attempted wit in the Arena last eve was a "Severe" disappointment. Your skill with words is as limited as your skill with a weapon, which, when You are ready, I will test. I don't see this being anytime soon, however, as you are rather pathetic and unworthy of facing me.

4. I have been balked in my pursuit of Aya by her cowardice in general, and fear of losing her precious hair.
Small minded person, There was no cowardice on display last eve, and there never shall be from myself. I haven't died a single death yet, and I do not anticipate any deaths in the near future.
Perhaps, when you are educated enough to know the difference, you might attempt to face me in a ring. I doubt it though.

5. Since Aya is the Protege of Angelina Darkling....
I am noones protege. I am my own person, and do not confuse that fact. I am a teammate of Angelina's, but I have no master, or mistress.

6. I am a sporting man.... if I win then Aya will have to give me one lock of her hair.
It matters not to me what sort of wager you make, I shall have no part in it. There will be no wagers involving me in any sort. I do not bet. And I shall not make any wagers.
If you feel to face me in the ring requires a wager, then I feel you will be waiting a long, long time.

7. Aya can of course develop some backbone...
Aya has far more backbone than you, worm. If you wish to face me, you shall have to behave more appropriately, and grow some semblance of a brain. Otherwise, you are just far too outclassed, outmatched, outwitted, and outskilled.

Straight up, you are not worthy to face myself, nor any of the Ring Angels.

Now, I am sure that you are amused, and will now refute my factual claims in your typical, mundane, boorish, and unwitty manner.

Before you do, however, buy a book so that you are able to use entertaining witticisms. I do so dislike being bored when I read these things.

Dear sir:

Quite frankly, I'm not in the least surprised Aya chose not to step into the ring with such a base creature as yourself. I should have been shocked to my very core should she have fallen prey to such weak and obvious barbs as you choose to employ.

As for your call upon my person, I shall likely do the same. You, sir, are simply unworthy of my, or any of the other Angels' attention. Being a creature of no honor, your cries of cowardice and ineptitude ring as hollow as your baseless arrogance. Like the thief caught with their thumb in the pudding squealing of injustice and trial, your own glaring flaws invalidate your entire quest.

As with many I have argued with in my lifespan and found their logic to be as faulty as your own, I also expect you to have the same denials. Fools are rarely amusing, unless they are privy to their own foolishness.

However, I could perhaps eke some measure of entertainment from you yet. Here is my only offer. I will choose a champion to face you. Should you win, I will give you a lock of hair of my own choosing. Should you lose, Miss Hayashibara will have the honor of removing whatever of your anatomy she so desires.

I find those terms to be much more acceptable for dealing with such a person as yourself.

With all due regards,

~A~

This is really starting to get irritating.

Severe, if you so enjoy wagers, I have one for you.

I will find three women of the Duels to give me permission for a lock of their hair. If you win, you can have the locks.

If you lose, I'm taking off your head. And I mean this literally.

Fair enough?

E decides to drop on by the Message Boards for the first time in a long while, since he's fairly sure there will be a few messages on the recent encounter between Aya and Severe.

He is not disappointed.

E can't help but grin as he reads over the responses. And he actually laughs at loud at Keokuk's. Ohhh, he's missed this place. He really must post, though it's not exactly something he's accustomed to. Maybe it's for this reason that most of his comments are actually scribbed into the margins of the already posted notes. Decorum? What's that?

((Actual postings begin here, indicated by single quotation marks.))

Most distinguished clientele of the Duel of Swords,

'That's me!'

'I resent that, since A. I managed to out-talk you for the entire time we spoke. Granted, that was only for a few minutes, and you were under verbal assault from about five people, so maybe they weren't ideal circumstances. But you certainly didn't come away proving your wit. B. I never even mentioned dueling
you, and you never mentioned dueling me. It had nothing to do with a cost. It was because you're just so much fun to mock! If you'd brought it up, I would have considered it.'

'No, you were balked by your inability to say "please."'

Since Aya is the protege of Angelina Darkling then Angelina perhaps would step forward and defend the honor of her "child" Aya.

'It's spelled "childe," for this meaning. And she's not that anyway, unless I'm really missing something.'

'I'm not entirely sure what sort of sporting man requires a wager for every fight he undertakes. Are you sure you're not a betting man?'

If I win then Aya will give me one lock of her hair as punishment to be used in a raising that has little to do with the DoS. If I lose both matches then I will accept banishment for a period of sixty days.

'What if you win one but lose the other? Just curious.'

Aya can of course develop some backbone and step forward which would preclude the need for all this messiness. If she does chose to step forward then of course it is just a simple duel between her and I and the champion and banishment are not in play.

'This from a guy who refuses to fight anyone...anyone mind you, not just guys...unless he stands to gain something. Here's a hint, Severe. You want more respect in this place? You want more people to fight you? Stop trying to get a tax from people just for fighting you.'BACK="#ffffff" style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffffff" SIZE=2 PTSIZE=10 FAMILY="SANSSERIF" FACE="Arial" LANG="0">

E grinned. It was good to be back in the thick of things. But something was missing. And so he added a small note of his own to the bottom of the board.

'By the way, boys and girls, if you haven't been to the Arena lately...I'm baaaaack.

It's amusing when people feel compelled to justify themselves before an idiot like Severe. Then again, these are one sided bets anyhow, and all this over some hair.
