Eighth Ring Challenge Results

On the eve of Sunday, September 22, Seamus MacDonnaugh pressed his challenge to the holder of the Eighth Baron's Ring, Nova Grey Shadow. The match was held in the Best of Three format.

MacDonnaugh brought along a cluster of supporters clad in loincloths. They included the married couple Amaltea and Xenograg, and the Shaman Sloth. Seregill stood by as MacDonnaugh's second. The scantily clad gathering was decked out in the challenger's chosen colors of mahogany, tan, and hunter green.

Baron Grey Shadow had no particular markings and had no seconds. He dueled under a grey banner, but had no other formalities.

The first match began slowly, with neither duelist able to gain more than half a point for several minutes. The Baron changed that when he manuevered away from one of the Warlord's attacks, and then countered with two quick hits to take a commanding 3 - .5 lead. MacDonnaugh was able to get one of those back, but then fell victim to two more of Nova's assaults that ended the match. The first match's final tally was 5 - 2.5 in favor of the
Baron.

After a short break, the second match began. Having exchanged weapons for a more unconventional item made of foam, the Warlord was able to quickly dispatch his opponent to even the series. Using alternating attacks and quick footwork, MacDonnaugh took the second match quickly with a 5 - 3 finish.

The third and deciding match saw the lead change hands several times in the match's early rounds. MacDonnaugh struck first, but it was the Baron who held the lead midway through the match. At that point, the challenger would not score again as Grey Shadow claimed the match by a 5 - 2 margin.

Thus, by a match score of 2 - 1, the Baron successfully defended his challenge from the Warlord.
