Results of the Thirteenth Ring Challenge

This evening I was called to witness the challenge for the Thirteenth Baronial Ring between the Grayson MacLeod and Drachen. Grayson dueled for the honor of the lady Elle McBride, and Lucian stood as his Second.

He dueled under two banners, crossed at their staves.  The left standard was a blue Cross of St. Andrew upon a white field.  Centered was a yellow shield traped in red.  Centered on the shield was the Lion Rampant, the sign of Scottish Royalty.  Known as the Royal Saltire, this banner signified Grayson's allegiance to the Scottish Crown.  The right standard was a worn, woolen square of the MacLeod tartan.  Known as the Fairy Flag, this sacred Banner signified his allegiance to the Clan MacLeod and his Chieftain.

Drachen dueled for the honor of no one, had no Second, and dueled under no banner. Originally, he requested the intervention of the Overlord, who declined to step in against the challenger. The match was then determined to be a single bout, and it would go eleven rounds. In the end, Drachen would retain his ring, with a score of five to three.

The Baron claimed (and the Overlord admitted) that Arithon would be breaking an oath if he declined to step in against the challenger, and Arithon offered at the end of the match, if he was still Baron, to banish him to renegade and not use any test should Drachen challenge. After the match was over, Drachen attacked Grayson and held him hostage, as insurance that the Overlord would honor his word.

Drachen has been banished from Loyal to Renegade by the Overlord.
