In time...

It had only been a few days since the out-and-out brawl of the Diamond Quest, his leg was healing nicely. He'd offered it as a sacrificial lamb to each and every opponent that night, letting one limb take the punishment for his whole body. It had worked on the whole, except for the one nasty kick Avery had cracked his sternum with.

In retrospect, he could dimly recall Avery being worse off... both had been in rare form that night. Splintered tables, fiery explosions, and mass devastation came blearily to mind when he tried to think about the end of the Quest. He could only suppose that he stood up better because such things were like second nature to him... being in the line of business he was. Somehow he had a hard time picturing Avery anywhere outside a fighting dojo or
tournament ring. The kid was good on the mats, idly the thought wanders through Tareth's mind on how good the boy would be on a job.

Rousse was right, as he usually was, about the leg. Some old elf trick, the metal cast and poultice had done something to heal the fracture and tissue damage to the point he could walk. Billy had given it a shake that night in the ring, which Rousse informed him would add another week to the healing time. Smug old elf, he enjoyed it.

Wistfully walking the empty shell of the Outback remains, he pauses to consider the cracked dome, the scarred floors, the burned-out rings. Something caught in him. Something unthought of before.

With the clink of his metal leg brace, he wandered upstairs to consider exactly what he'd have to do to pull this one off.
