She couldn't hear him, and really wasn't watching him, so he had plenty of time to stare.

No, it wasn't her. First of all, Aes was dead. Second, while the resemblance was uncanny, this woman was younger, taller, and a little more filled out. She was also "her ladyship", whatever title that carried, which was obvious since she was the one sitting in the biggest chair. This was probably the same woman that sat behind the curtains yesterday.

He could only see her profile, as she was bent in her chair to address a huge black man behind her. With a nod, he moved off, and she finally looked out into the fighting pit below.

Tareth caught her eye, and for a long moment he held her gaze, heedless of the crowd or even the other fighters. Those eyes, so like the ones he stared into so many years ago, caught at something in his chest. With a fierce grin he finally broke away, turning to the arena before him.

Entertaining? He could be entertaining.

Poking fingers into various holes in the tunic he wore, he pulled it apart with a savage tug. His torso, completely covered in scars from whips, burns, bullet holes and other wounds, stretched oddly in the sun as he inhaled a deep breath.

With a war cry, he plunged straight for the nearest man still standing.
