::reads Jacob's post, frowning as he reads it, fashions an appropriate response and tacks it up next to the brash young man's insults::

Sir Jacob Ryleigh,

I have never been one who believes in kindness or forgiveness. Yet, I will, just this once, ignore your insults so that you will never bear the brunt of my anger in response to such words. Now, do you have any idea why I tested Gnimish? Clearly not. I do not feel compelled to share my reasons with you, but as someone who has already defended the title of Overlord, in one reign, more than anyone else ever, I assure you it was *not* because I was
afraid to rely on my own talent and skill. As to your statements about "lowering your dagger in disgrace to" me, I have nothing to say but "thank you." Take that for what you will: arrogant, snobbish, it matters not. Anyone who would insult Baron Oakenshield and myself, as you have, without *any* knowledge of the facts and situations surrounding the challenge, other than your own misplaced idealism, or our previous defenses et al, is someone that I
would never want supporting me. Finally, I would simply like to assure you that should you ever acquire the necessary skill to challenge for my title, you will most definitely be the recipient of the Test of Worthiness, because of your blatant disrespect for Jeff and myself. Do remember that you did this to yourself when that day comes and you are whining and complaining about it happening to you as well. Good day, sir.

Fellow Patrons,
I'm sorry to waste our precious public space with this missive. I considered responding to Sir Jacob in private, but I felt that the personal attack on Jeff and my character warranted a public rebuttal. I do hope, for once, that I managed to refrain from allowing my temper to get the better of me.

respectfully,
Lord Dalamar Ar'Daumon

Overlord of the Duel of Swords
Lord of the Dale
Guardian of the Oldest House

Jacob,

I wanted to add a question onto Dalamar's response: Who appointed you spokesperson of the New School? As I've stated several times, I'm a new schooler, and I was just curious as to what gave you the right to speak for all of us.

Most curiously,

Sartan

Jacob began to explain to me the differences between Old School and New School, but I am still unclear about the fundamental differences. From Jacob's statements, I gathered that the Old School is the traditionalist branch, which tries to prevent the New School, or the voice of change, from making its presence known. However, it seems like many people disagree with this. I would appreciate it if someone could further explain
the differences to me, either through a posting or through a private correspondence.
Next, I would like to address certain statements that were made. Jacob stated:
Old schoolers fundamentals beliefs seem to be that you earn respect from the years & outstanding performances. That structure outside the ring is involved to what happens inside the ring. They believe you must prove yourself above normal talents to have an opportunity to duel them. That they may decline to duel a lower rank until they see it is fit......
So, if you want to know what one example of a New Schooler, then I shall let you know what I was raised to follow. I Do not believe you earn respect! Respect must be given to all that exist. If you are a swordsman, you still deserve the same amount of respect as the Baron, I might admire the Baron for his/her skills, but I do not treat him with more respect than a swordsman. To lose respect from me is to deny a challenge from me or to
challenge one of lower ranks.<<
Lady Aja rebutted, saying:
Respect is earned. No one is going to instantly respect you. If you show respect, you get respect. So far, you're not doing so well on that part.
Baron's are respected more than Swordsman for a good reason. They have made their way up the ranks to get to the position of Baron. But that is not the only way to be respected here.
Several duelers that are in the lower ranks are respected, because they have shown they have honor, grace, and they offer their respect to others. I am going out on a limb here, and will say that I am a respected person, because I have shown my respect to others. I may not always agree with them, but they know that I am not personaly slamming them or their beliefs, just stating mine. And I'm only a commoner. Explain that one, eh?COLOR="#000000" SIZE=2>
I believe in a third path, between those of Jacob and Aja. On one hand, I agree with Aja, that Barons deserve a certain amount of respect. They worked their way to the top, and have proven themselves to be good duelers. In addition, she said that even lower ranked duelers deserve respect, if they behave with honor and respect. This last statement, I believe, is similar to what Jacob said, that everyone
deserves some respect. This statement should not be denied by anyone - were it not so, would that mean that a higher ranked dueler can treat a commoner like a sub-human?
On the other hand, I do not like Aja's usage of the word "several" by the number of lower ranked duelers deserving of respect. Several denotes to me a very low number. Does that mean that most commoners (and swordsmen, maybe) do not deserve respect. And since anyone who shows honor and respect, Aja said, should be respected, does that mean that almost all of the duelers in question do not believe in those values?
In conclusion, I feel that all humans who deserve the name deserve respect. Those that have ascended to a higher rank deserve a different sort of respect, a sort of honor. However, this honor is not absolute. If it were, how could there be baron and overlord challenges?
May we all have the ability to act in such a way that will enable us to become objects of respect.

I believe Aja was genealizing. She's known to do tht, so don't jump to any conclusions about my wife.
