The 10th Ring???

Ok everyone here's your chance to call me naive, or to debate on something other than the overlord, or to just explain something that I don't understand.

Why are there only 9 Barons? Everywhere I've looked and read there is always an even number in a ruling body that has an "Overlord". I know that the Baron's council votes on various issues that come up. No offense to Lord Dalamar, but with only nine Barons there could never be a locked vote on any topic, there by removing the position of Overlord altogether. I say we create a 10th ring and put it up for grabs in the next Warlord's Tourney. What
say you fellow duelers? Is this topic something that needs to be brought before the 'Baron's Council'? Or am a just a ninny? ((Not 'The Ninny' as that is someone other than I))

Just for the sake of accuracy, there *was* in fact a tied vote within the Baron's Council within recent times, when Dalamar broke the tie by declaring that Sartan and the Demon of Darkness should duel their match again in consideration of all events.

The reason I believe that there are an even number of positions (10) with voting power in the council lies in the fact that the reason the council exists is to settle disputes that arise when one of them is challenge and does not answer (or answers late, in Darkness' case). That leaves an odd number of voting members.

However, with people able to abstain....it could conceivably create a tie...but that is another matter..

Daemon,

While your arithmetic is correct in reality, it is skewed in practice. Thus far, every time the Baron's Council has been called upon to decide an issue, that issue has involved a dispute over one of the 9 rings. The Baron who holds the ring being disputed is not eligible to take part in the council. So, in effect, there are only 8 barons on the council when it is brought together and the dead lock that you seek is not unheard of.

In addition to the above. Considering the matters that may be brought before the council, the only time an odd number of people would take part in the process is if one of the Baron seats are vacant. This is so, because even if it is the title of Overlord that is being disputed, the most senior of the Barons is placed in the seat of Overlord for purposes of directing the council and voting only in the case of a tie... Of course this has yet to
happen.

To all concerned about a Tenth Barons Ring,

If the Coordinator does see fit to add a tenth Barony, You're not going to see it for commoners only. The Title of Baron is going to be earned the same way it always has been. Meaning you gain your rank to Warlord, then Gain your 10 peer wins and challenge whoever holds it. If the new ring does come up, you'll have to wait for next Warlords Tourney. If you want to have a ring, get it the same way it's always been, by Earning it through Hard
Work and Perserverance.(sp?)

The only titles a commoner will have, is Commoner, until they gain the 2 WoL to become a swordsman, which then means you're not a commoner anymore. So to say you want a Barons Ring for Commoners only.. well, Don't hold your breath, 'cause it isn't going to happen. That would defeat the whole purpose of gaining rank.

The only way to get a title as commoner now, is to win the Commoner Tourney, like Princess Jen Star has done this past week. Beyond that, no special treatment for commoners.

No one said that the 10th ring would be for commoners, that would be obserd<sp> It was always my belief, and i believe those that replied, that the ring would be for a Baron, hence the title. Should the council add another ring it would of course be earned in the normal fashion one must assume.

Ye both missed what I said. The higher ranks have forgotten what's its like to go back down inless ye have fallen once again. Just a commoner,ect does know what is going on better than we do in the lower ranks. Take this new school crap. What is so new about it, do they not duel as the duelers before them? I do say they use the same rules. Maybee not a Tenth Ring is in place, but *one* spot from each level should be made to form a smaller
new concil, but not including Warlords, and sertant rules be set. All four of them would get to vote them selfs and with all four coming to a agreement it would be one vote on the Baron concil, or a stale mate and there vote would not be used. And there Fancies for this rank would be four also. I do not see nothing wrong with this and I do think it would add a bit more to this sport. I mean, hows this going to hurt ye G? ::chuckles to meself:: Just

Either you have decided to change the subject or you have totally missed the point. Gnort never said that having a "Council" as you described would "hurt" him. I say that with relative certainty since that was not the topic of discussion at the time. Basically, and I apologize to G'nort for speaking in his place, but I believe his complaint was giving away rank without making people work for it.

How would you have the "Council" gain their rank? I believe that in the spirit of our way of life the only answer could be by dueling. "Simple enough," one might say, "we can just have some Tournies!" Au contraire.. I dare that you suggest to Helix that she should run *Five* tournaments instead of only the Warlord's Tourney.

Also, you say that the lower ranks have better knowledge of those ranks. That is certainly true. Think for a moment, though, of what Kalamere has written. I agree that the lower ranks would understand their respective ranks better than those who have progressed to higher ranks, but one must agree also that the higher ranks would thereby have a better grasp of *their* respective situations. What is the Baron's Council used for? To settle
disputes regarding the Overlord and Baron's Rings. Who would be most familiar with the position of Overlord and the responsibilities of the Baron's Seat? Hopefully the people who fill those positions. Why would you, by your own statement, bring a group of people who really didn't know what was going on in the ranks of Warlord, Baron, and Overlord in to influence those that do?

Verra well said, but does not things happen in the lower ranks? But the point I was making was not all *can* make it to Warlord or get the peers. They may be here for years upon years and still can't do it, but the know how would exceed that of a new Warlord. Now I say at least some other option should be open to them. But 5 Ts. ::shudders:: I would never ask that, but rather have a vote of some sort, then after that switch to challenges,
once per a cycle that could come from any one in that one rank whom just cares to speak out. Forming a que and if ye move up in rank droped from it. The person having to pick a 2nd so if he/she does leave the rank fer some reason than it spot will go directly to the 2nd, que still wit him/her. But then again, these are my ramblings which ye should not get so worked up over.

A bit of advice to you, as your title has seemed' to have placed you in a new Arena...the one called *politics*. And it seems, that mayhaps now with your advancement in rank you feel a need to be active and engender your opinions on a mass scale. As before your miraculous elevation to your lofty station you had little if anything to say about,...if you'll pardon the expression, all this *crap*, in your own words.

I shall persue this juvenile line of debate no further as my ongoing opinions and thoughts would be far to acidic and viperous, and would more oft than not fall to levels of disrespect I would never show in public towards another title holding member of the Sport.

And think not that I blatantly cast my advice and words into your teeth without cost to myself, for the level of crucifiction I shall endure for this mere chastisment shall be more than adequate in penance for the thoughts and words I have written here...and mayhaps will even pay for those I have left unspoken.

Let me try and make this a bit clear for it does seem the water is muddy. *Politics* are alright and usefull, but what *I* was saying was Progaganda(sp) is wrong in many words. Take Dal for an instance. He tries to sell every one. Bring out thier best of features,ect in complements and other ways. But beyond that, he is shallow. He could not even take the damn time to talk with me. Never cared,ect. So how should I have done things? I tried
to fix things, but if he is unwilling then ye end up wit this.

I do have to say, when did this sport become life or death? Whom dies from this? Is it not to have fun and enjoy it or is it falling to pretty talking poeple selling thier words as if it twas life? Do you ever wonder why some of the older duelers are stoping with the sport and what it has become with the new duelers? It is a freak show if you ask me. But I do say what I want, no matter whom listens or cares to talk back cause I am here to
duel. Not to sell my word. And if it does come out juvenile then so be it. As I have said before in my past words, I am just a dueler no better than the lowest commoner. No one is. Now they may think they are, but if it was not fer them giving up wins then ye would may not be where ye are now. And with that *group* that I was talking about. It was a chance for the poeple to feel like they are changing or doing some thing for the sport. Let the ones
looked down upon and often not thought of be heard for some of the most best ideas do come from the ones thinking right.
