>>What they don't have a right to do is to insult him and those that wish to stand by him, calling him a coward and calling them "blind followers".<<

Sid, lass... is this not how ye and were referred to in regard tae Eliah and Draven? Although ye and I know full well our own minds we were spoken of that way. Forgive me fer dredging up old memories if they be bad.

Lord Uziel:

Forgive me for my obvious stupidity, but I fail to see how your ability to gain your title and hold it against two other challengers in any way relates to you saying that your blade would defend your title against Kalamere, and yet it only left its sheath in order to sit upon a table this eve. Perhaps you'll explain what it is I'm failing to understand?

If you wish to read meaning into my words, perhaps you should simply... read those words. I have in no way intimated that you are incapable or cowardly. Nay, I stated that you lied about this one particular instance, which is an entirely different matter.

In your defense, this is certainly not the first time a holder of title puffed up their chest and claimed they would deliver "swift justice," only to never lift their sword. Of course... perhaps you did deliver your justice, the Overlord merely serving as your pawn?

An interesting thought. I shall have to ponder it further.

I remain,

And, if what you say here is true, then Elijah was right. The DoS truly is going to the Nine Hells in a handbasket. The fact that insults and childish namecalling is justified as a "consequence" of upholding what you believe in, and not caving in to other's opinions, then this sport is truly on a swift downhill tumble.

________________________________________________

I see again a common thread running about here. And I have a few more comments to make.

Disagreeing is not insulting. In fact you are decrying against what you rally for. Iain has said, as have others, that they believe testing a baron wrong. Now they fight, or "Stand up for what they believe in." Yet you call it an insult. Is there a point? You tell me if testing a former overlord is not an insult to one's predacessor and a part of the history of DoS. This was not the first time. To achieve rank, one must fight all on one's own
to understand honor. Respect is due more than *just* barons, to my way of thinking. Some, like myself, have gone out of their way to make sure that it was known that they were asking for pure answers and yet I see here dissenting parties referred to as mud or dung flingers. That is a ploy that I will not stoop down to refute. I have insulted no one. I have stated the truth about the position of Baron and Overlord that is obvious to any that
choose to look. These title are political titles, won by skill. In your reign over Melania, would have sent out a foreign minister to a neighboring land only because they are your friend, Sidartha? No good ruler would. A good ruler would seek the collective good of all that they ruled. I am asking for something beyond friendship as cause as I would were a man suggested to me to take a high place in GateWay. I want to know what he will do
for those I have sworn to protect. Which brings me to comments by the Overlord.

Also, to those of you who seek to separate loyalty and friendship, I would like to explain how I feel. I do not believe that friendship can exist without loyalty. True loyalty is knowing you would fall on your sword if it would save the life of someone loyal to you. This is the pinnacle of "friendship." What many of you mistake for "friendship" or "loyalty" is merely "being an acquaintance" and "support" respectively.

You have referred directly to my writing, sir, stating that I do not know the value of friendship. I, sir, fell on the field of battle in defense of the kingdom of New Mountainside, honoring a friendship between Luthien and myself. I had considered you a friend, now I have been corrected.

Respectfully,

Brian Girvin

>>Call me strange, but when someone insults you, you don't send someone else to beat that person up. You meet them yourself, as a matter of honor.<<

Well, there are many intances in past history that can show one man defending another man's honor. Think of Lancelot as King Author's champion. And why do kings send out armiens to battle other armies of other kings? Why don't the two kings go at it and the winner takes all? Perhaps it is because the King is too valuable to lose?

Let's put this equation into Overlord terms. The Overlord is the king. The Baron's are his knights... and the Warlords are his armies. If a knight (baron) challenges the king (overlord), then why can't another knight step in to defend his lord? Now, if a commen soldier is the champion of the king, and the knight fails to defeat the commen soldier, then that knight has failed to prove his worth as a swordsman to defeat what is known to be his
lesser... and perhaps does not deserve to hold his title?

>>One duel, win or lose, no test, no intercession, no best of three.<<

I find it odd that you say this Ian... hasn't there been... ohh, say at least two intances where this has happened? Say, the winners of the Warlord's Tournaments? And Dalamer must prove his skills as a dueler once every three months to remain the Overlord. I believe he has secessfully won more challenges than many of the Baron's in the sport... and every past Overlord.

>>Whining and complaining on these boards wastes paper, and nothing gets resolved. I have no intentions of taking any actions against the Overlord, even tho I dissagree with
the test, I am content where I am. <<

Choose your words wisly Lord MacKenzie, it seems that we are doing a bit of complaining without action ourselves?

Damien,
You having been around for sometime now should know that, *most* but not all of the Warlord tournament winners usually do *not* take the shot at the overlord. Typically, it is the runner up, the second place person who gets the shot. I am not condemming the skills of these people in the least, to get to that point in the tourneys is more than I have accomplished yet. But what I am saying is this, The tourney winners...the best Warlord of that
period, typically does not face the overlord. Well, that's my two cents..

Damien:

First, you've ascribed one comment to me that I did not make.

Second, if you were paying attention... I have been acting. While I rather enjoy watching Adonai insist that I am seeking Dalamar's position myself and using this as an excuse, I have no desire whatsoever to gain title for myself again.

An excellent point, Huma. I myself passed up the opportunity to seek the title in order to allow Simini the chance to face Leto when I had occasion to earn the Ninth Ring, and Sir Damien himself was involved in a similar decision once, as I recall.

<<Of course it is. I don't feel I've been guilty of insulting anyone in this, but the fact remains that being insulted is a consequence of unpopular action, and it always has been.>>
-Ian

Ta' be truly "unpopular" it would have ta' be a very widespread opinion Ian. I'm sorry but I just keep hearin' the same group of people complainin' and the supporters seem ta' at least equal if not exceed the detractors.

All it comes down ta' is exactly what Dal said......if ya' don't like it, challenge him and win. It ain't Dal's fault people choke durin' intercessions and can't manage ta' beat two duelers in a row. How often do we, as duelers, beat numerous peer one after another? All the time. Unfortunately the other team doesn't have good enough starters ta' finish the job.

Plain and simple...do somethin' or stop clutterin' the boards with yer whinin' crap. Same goes fer ya' Loyalists....you people remind me of two dogs on either side of a chain link fence, barkin' and growlin' but not havin' the gumption ta' hop right over.

Excrete or get off the pot boys and girls cause it's checkout time....ya'ain't gotta go home but ya' can't stay here!

It was my impression, brutish fellow, that "clutterin' the boards with [my] whinin' crap" was, indeed doing something. I do hope you've not exchanged brains for brawn once too often...

Unfortunately maggot, yer the perfect exampled of someone who's bitter because they've done nothin' but fail in every attempt ta' achieve rank. Yer actually worse than what Ian and the rest are arguein' about son, yer so full of sour grapes I wonder next time I squeeze yer head, will I get red or white "whine".

When ya' do anythin' constructive fer the sport aside from pokin' shots at people and comment on diction, maybe we'll care. Until then, practice and come back to the DoS so I can watch all yer dreams of accomplishment get dashed yet again.

Billy, my friend...

Having someone who once told me that he had no desire to be the Overlord because it was more fulfilling to play 'his role,' telling me to put up or shut up, has a bit of a hollow ring to it.

You do things your way, and I do them mine; I know what your way is and respect that, you know what my way is. View it as you will.

Huma,

First ya bitch dat Dal never fights one duel ta decide it, when dat didn't hold much water, ya switch ta quality of opponents? Its quite sad how badly ya wanna make Dal look bad, but ya can't neither with yer arguments nor yer blade, otherwise you'd challenge. Lord MacKenzie may feel ye have made a good point, but I see ya just tryin' ta stir up trouble with yer babble.

Well Jeff, I was not as I had stated questioning the quality of the duelists...and you mentioned, I can't with my blade or my words make him look bad? Two things...I don't *need* to make him look bad, to some, he does a good enough job on his own, secondly, are you challenging me to make the challenge? Questioning my skills? One should watch thier tongue before they cause uneeded problems, don't you agree? I had mearly pointed out that
it was not the best of the best that got the shot at Dal, and if you can read, you would have seen that i even gave the runners up more credit than i myself have earned. I would therefore advise that you not put words in my mouth, as it seems that *you* are the one stirring trouble up, Baron Oakenshield.

Ah but da difference is I don't care if I stir up trouble with ya Baron Dragonbane. Once ye claimed ta be neutral ta Dal, not a opposin' renegade, I knew it was a crock den and I know ya been against him all along. He's allowed ta have opposition, sure, I just don't have ta like it.

Simply,
