Onward to the redemption of a world

Zach looked over his shoulders at Khrys who had just asked him what in the world he was doing and said "Taking some readings and doing a minor installation so I don't waste time going to and from the ship.". "I can get to and from it without leaving the cottage unless you want me to shrink it down to minimum size and leave it on the table!" He laughed at that thought and continued "I need to go back out to it in the morning if you would like to
go with me.". She said she would like to go just for some more of that fruit she liked so much. "I would also like to spend some more time with you since you are going to be gone a lot more now during the days." Khrys said. Suddenly she looked at him and asked him "How are you going to go back and forth to the ship from here and how could you set that great big old ship on the table?" She thought about that for a few minutes and then said in the "Do
you mean like when we went through that hole on the cave that you called a door?" Zach laughed and said "Yup!…….That’s it.".
The following morning they got up and went to the ship as they were leaving Khrys closed the closet door. Zach opened it back up and said "I need that open for what we are about to do." She curtsied and said "Yes M’lord." He just grabbed her hand and smiling at her sarcastic behavior pulled her to the barn where they got the horses ready and went to the cave. Zach uploaded the data into the ships computer. She sat there and watched until he
looked at her and asked "Would you mind walking home and then back for me?". "Zach are you nuts or something?" He smiled at her and said "Not too bad off, but nuts?…Yes I have to admit to that.". He held out an index finger and said "Come to me I need you for an experiment." She walked over to him and asked "What are you going to do now?". He reached over and hit a button and said "Watch.". They were standing in front of a gray metal frame. The edges
begin to vibrate noticeably then began to slow down and become solid again. After a few moments they began to emit a slight hum which went up steadily in pitch. He looked over at Khrys and said "It takes a while to warm up but it is quicker than the ride.". The sound coming from the frame was now up to a frequency level that was too high for Zach to hear but very annoying to Khrys. After a few more moments it was no longer annoying or audible to her
but it was now radiating a dull warm glow which slowly gave way to white then ultraviolet. Several minutes had passed by this time when all of a sudden Khrys almost jumped. There was the bedroom framed in the gray metal. "After you my dear." He held her up and then set her in the room "If you left anything at home now would be a good time to get it." She grabbed something to eat and stepped back in just a few moments later. She looked at him and
exclaimed in a very excited voice "Well I’ve never done that before.". He grabbed her gave her a kiss and said "I think we need to start back soon. That is unless you want the animals wandering through the cottage on the way to the front door.".

The first day for training exercises to begin Zach rolled out of bed before sunrise and gave Khrys a goodbye kiss. As he did this he picked up his medallion and placed his fingers on it in a strange way, a type of pattern. By the time he was dressed in his weird green nondescript clothes the closet already had light coming from underneath the door. "Well Khrys, I gotta go to work." She looked at him sleepily and said "Close the door on the way
out we wouldn’t want any bats getting in here, would we?" She rolled back over and went to sleep and he was on his way. He smiled as she did so and then disappeared from the room as the portal closed and vanished completely.
He quickly strode to the navigation room and said "Let’s get to work big guy.". No sooner had he strapped himself in than the dampers were shut down. The walls of the spherical room lit up and the door to the cave was opening. The ship left the cave with a speed that would have terrified all but the initiated. The room was now black except for the stars that hung motionlessly against a black velvet background. Servos were going crazy
throughout the whole ship. The voice of the computer said, "Configured for jump. Batcomp full up. All weapons operational. Charged and ready." Zach leaned back and said, "Go jump!". The motionless stars began to shoot by. The ship was now hurtling through a tunnel lined by multicolored dots that streaked by, almost forming lines as they did so. About twenty minutes later the stars suddenly stopped. The huge ship just hung there in space. The
computer cut in after a few moments "Codes received and verified. Do you want to proceed?". Zach said "Affirmative" and the ship was immediately over the surface of a planet and slowly descending toward the surface.
The sound of things opening and closing once again filled the ship as it drifted to the surface below upside down. Looking up over his head he could see the recruits working to line up for inspection. He decided to have a fun entry, so he continued toward the landing area upside down. When he was given the go ahead signal, the landing gear slammed into position and the ship flipped over, looking like it would slam into the ground. All of this
without so much as a single noise. He was out the door in less than five seconds and viewing his trainees. He walked the line and greeted as many as he had time for. There was that one guy he remembered from before. He looked even more arrogant then the last time he had seen him. All of these guys looked up to him and the way to reach them would be to put this guy in his place. He stopped right in front of him and looking up at him said, "Are you
ready for this?". The guy looked back down at him and said "I can take anything you can dish out, Sir!". Zach looked back, and just to make him get even more arrogant, stood on his toes. He looked him right in the eye and said, "We shall see, won't we.".
"As you were. Get back to work. We shall get started after all of you get settled in." None of the recruited rebels realized that he was really paying close attention to who was helping and who was heckling. For the most part, they all worked together quite well and this did make him happy. All day long the massive cargo ships arrived and departed dropping loads and leaving immediately. They brought mining equipment and manufacturing
equipment as well. By the end of the day they had everything they needed to get moving. Zach went home for the night, and he and Khrys talked about the days events.

The following day Zach went to the "Planet of Sorrows " as it was soon to be called by the rebels. The first thing he did when he got there was walk up to the obnoxious trainee and say "Show me what you know about hand to hand big boy!". The guy was startled, he knew he had ticked Zach off but he hadn’t expected this. "What do you mean sir?" Zach stepped back and looked at him and said "Kick my butt that is what you have been thinking since
you first saw me and knew I was going to be your C.O. So go for it. Take a good shot and make it count. I will, I guarantee!" With that Zach stepped back and smiled at him. "Look do you want to do this later?" he said shrugging his shoulders. The large guy just suddenly shot a fist straight at Zach’s face. Zach stepped back just a little more moved his head to the side and met the fist with a chisel punch between the knuckles. This separated the
flesh between the knuckles and the poor guy let out a howl. He grabbed the arm before he could retract it and helped him with his forward movement by giving a little pull and stepped to the side. As Zach stepped to the side he swept his feet out from under him landing him face first on the ground. His arm was now in a joint lock and he was standing on his palm and the elbow. One of Zach’s buddies walked up and handed him a beer saying "I realize
it’s a little early but you aren’t the one who is going to be doing all of the running today.". He thanked him and said "This is true.".
He let the poor guy up and they had a new understanding. It was a new beginning Zach winked at him and said "How are you doing buddy?". The guy looked at him and said "How did you do that?". He told them they would all know how to do these things by the time he was through or they would be doing supply work which was required by the group but not very rewarding at all. "I will teach you about the road map for destruction and pain in the human
body. It is a simple map muscles are strong along the length but really really easy to tear in half from the side causing debilitating pain. I will also teach you how to travel with no sleeping bag or tents to slow you down. I will teach you how to find food where there is none. I will most importantly teach you how to not lose your head in a tight situation, that is the key to winning and survival in any situation." The key tool of a soldier is a
clear and discerning mind. The worst enemy is panic and fear. Both panic and fear come from ignorance and doubt. The mark of a good pilot is one who tries to fly right up until impact and the mark of a good soldier is one who fights until there is no other way. A good soldier will run in battle but only if it is for the of the whole and never just to save his own skin.
Zach stepped back and told their previous instructor to put them through their paces while he watched. By the time he went home that night the mining equipment had been started up at various locations on the planets surface. They were already refining copper, iron and all of the metals of war along with the required chemicals. The General had arrived along with all of the rest of Zach’s old friends except those that had gone with Greg to
improperly train the tyrant wannabes. The days went by with Zach going home each night. By the time two months had passed all of them were very well trained and capable. All of the raw materials for the manufacture of weapons and ammunition they would need initially had been stockpiled. Next they were going to learn about manufacturing the materiel and then it’s use. After they learned about operating the mining equipment of course. Zach figured they
would all whine just like he did but they would be able to do everything they need to, by the time they were through with them.
Now it was time to begin the final phases of their training and this would really separate the leaders from the followers. Not one of them realized that they would all become leaders in the long run if they lived long enough that is.

Zach stood before them one morning and spoke to them about the things they had learned in the time they had all been together. "I will be there with you during this war as it started a long time ago and I do have a few debts to pay. I will do this because I can not lead you from behind. I cannot ask you to do that which I will not do myself. I do have one request to make of you. All of you I might add. I would appreciate it if you
would make a suit of armor for me using your newfound manufacturing skills. I would like to have it as a momento of this time we have had together. I also need it. You guys are doing something fun and I am getting ready to do something terrifying. I am entering a long term relationship.....I am getting married!" With that a cheer went up from all of the rebels. They were truly happy and it did make them happy everyone of them wanted to help. He
laughed and hushed them up. "Thank you I am happy at your reaction to this news. The specifications are posted with the orders as we don’t have anything that even resembles a request board around here." They all nodded and laughed at that.
"Right now I think all of you could use a really good drunk so get ready for a party. You all need a break for a couple of days as do I. Yes! You will get to meet her when you graduate and I give a nice speech but I don’t want any cat calls. I want you to behave yourselves…….If you can. I will say that she is the most precious thing in my life and the most beautiful. Gentlemen, and I do use that term loosely, at ease."

The day came finally came for graduation and Zach took Khrys with him so that the troops could meet her. The general had asked Zach to do a speech right there on the spot and then had winked at Khrys. It
turned out that Zach was the historian of the bunch and not a bad speaker too. Before Zach started he grabbed Khrys by the hand and pulled her up to the podium and picked up the microphone. "This guys is
the love of my life." They cheered quite loudly and then slowly the cacophony turned into a chant "Khrys.... Khrys.... Khrys.... Khrys.... Khrys.... Khrys.... Khrys!". Khrys began to turn red she wasn't quite used to all of this attention and didn't quite know how to handle it. Zach laughed at all of them and looked at Khrys and said " They love you probably because after I announced my intentions to them I got a lot nicer with them." Turning to the
soldiers he said "I got nice with all of you because you quit screwing up not because of Khrys."
"When the world was created….. it is said in ancient writings, God created the world on a foundation of two pillars. Those pillars are Justice and Mercy. To have created the world on a foundation of justice alone……. none would have been able to survive. To have created the world on a foundation of only mercy would have caused a world in chaos. They say justice must be tempered by mercy, and I say mercy must also be tempered by justice. You have
been subjugated with cries for mercy for the guilty. Nobody saw they were really crying for mercy from you for what they were about to do to you and me. They regularly punished the citizens for the crimes committed by the conscienceless members of our society. The power of a tyrant is limited only by what the subjugated will allow, but they always forget that part. They without failure over reach. They do it every time. "
"Sadly enough the citizens also have their tendencies just like the tyrant. They don’t really care what happens to anybody else unless they see how it will affect them directly. Wars aren’t fought over right and wrong they are fought over have and have not. There are always many trying to rally them in advance. They are usually branded as malcontents and ne’er do wells. However they have honor…..they speak out when they see wrong. They do not
cower……. They do not remain silent when they should speak…….They do what is right regardless of the consequences. Until that changes the human condition will remain the same. "
"Then society, that mux of humanity also has it's collective thinking problems There was a time when man searched for the perfect diamond. Then man learned how to make a perfect diamond. Then they began to seek the diamond with the perfect flaw.'" There was a ripple of laughter through the crowd and Zach smiled at that. "Nobody asked why! During this same time they began to make things that were designed to fail so that people would need to
come back to them. Again nobody asked why! Prior to that, things that they made were designed to last for a long time and they did. This was collective and individual greed and fed the detriment of the whole of society. "
Waving a hand at the assembly he then said. "You have completed the training phases here and will now be broken up into groups, some acquisition of and manufacturing of supplies. Some of you will be returning to our home world to make final preparations and to gather more recruits. Some of you will remain here to train the new recruits." Waving both arms to indicate everbody in the group he continued. "We have gathered together to right a wrong
that we allowed to happen to ourselves and we were part of creating. Some of us allowed it to happen out of ignorance and some out of selfishness. But we are now ready to correct that which was broken so the cycle can start again. Let us not forget this time. What led to all of this was ignorance pure and simple. We can't take away the rights of another without taking our own rights away at the same time. The political pendulum will always swing back
and forth to some extent. We can't allow ourselves to be so stupid next time." Zach looked out over the men as they stood there listening and raised his hands over his head to the heavens and said "It was written a long time ago, that victory always belongs to the side that is the most indignant.". He looked back down at the soldiers and slammed his fists into the podium with a deafening thud. "Gentlemen we have already won."
The entire group went crazy patting each other on the backs and a rhythmic chant began "Kaenit naass tyrans…. Kaenit naass tyrans…. Kaenit naass tyrans…. Kaenit naass tyrans…. Kaenit naass tyrans…. It all turned into quite a party for the rest of the day. Zach and Khrys bid them farewell for the night and were in the process of leaving when they were intercepted by the general and the really huge guy that Khrys remembered didn't like Zach at
all the first time she had seen him. Something felt different in his demeanor as he approached Zach however. "Sir! Please wait I have something to give you if can just wait for a moment or so." Zach looked up at him and said "I can wait. What is it. " The guy ran off and returned a few minutes later with a rather heavy package. "Sir we made this for you. I do hope you are pleased with it. Everyone including the general here felt I should be the one
to present it to you." Zach looked at him and smiled "Dare I open it here?" "I would be pleased if you did sir." Zach smiled at him and said "My name is Zach please use it. You have earned that right."
"Khrys would you do the honor of opening this for me? I do believe it is for both of us in a sense." She looked at him with a puzzled expression on her face and said "OK?". It took a moment for her to get it open but when she did she was shocked "Zach this is beautiful!" she exclaimed. She lifted the scale plate armor out of the package. It was peacock blue with white silver inlay patterns all over on it. There were even standard shoulder pads
and grieves. Everything was matched in color and the patterns were gorgeous. There were double headed eagles on each shoulder plate. The helm had been done with various types of gold wash. There were two dragons circling the helmet one blue and one red intertwined and grabbing each others' tails. The red dragon had a blue eye and the blue dragon had a red eye. Inside of this was a circle that was made of two tear drop shapes the black one had a white
dot and the white one had a black dot.
Khrys looked at Zach and said "What does this mean? It means something or it wouldn't be here." The outside circle is perfection and the goal. The dragons eyes see each other and are aware of each other, which is why they have each others color in their eyes .The inside is the material or mans world the reality. No one good act yields only good it also yields some evil. No one evil act yields only evil some good will come of it. It is about
friction and spiritual growth. Nothing really gets done in life without friction.

Khrys watched in silent disbelief at the multitude of green clad soldiers and the massive machines they were working around. Huge disc shaped machines with massive supports to hold them as they sat on the ground for loading. The sound of servo motors whining filled the air along with a strange oily smell. Some of them were working on the machines and some of them were operating lifts carrying huge pallets of supplies. The landing pads for
some of them were almost fifteen feet in diameter with struts made out of beams and tubes up to two feet in thickness. Oil dripped from massive hinge pins because of the sweltering heat of the day. Looking over at Zach she could see a smile of satisfaction on his face "Why are you smiling Zach?". He snapped back to the present and looked at her "Because I have been hoping for this day for a long long time my dear. I was once part of the problem and
am now going to be the solution along with all of my friends. We will right a wrong that we were part of as will all of these soldiers." He turned and wrapped his arms around her and asked her "Do you want to come with us while we set up the base on my planet? We will be quite safe there." Khrys nodded that she would be interested in going but she seemed to be shocked at all of the activity around her, that was strictly for the causing of
destruction. She was clearly saddened by all of this. He took her in his arms and said "I will show you some of why we are doing this when we get there. Believe me you will understand once you see the level of pain and anguish this government has laid on it's people." Looking up to the sky Zach continued " They have no idea what is coming. Tyrants are arrogant, remember? They eventually have a 'shoot the messenger' policy which causes their
subordinates to fall silent at the darndest of times." He threw his head back and let out a laugh. Looking back at her he said with a smile "Boy are they going to be surprised." Zach ran his fingers through her hair and said "The fun won't begin for at least another six months however. When we start the war we want it to be sudden and out of the blue." Khrys looked at him and asked "What is your strategy going to be generally?" Zachs countenance
took on a dark look as he peered into her eyes "Are you a spy?" Then he kissed her and laughingly said "It is based on two things generally. When a society attains total control they will always centralize so that they can maintain that control. That is out of mistrust towards those they have subjugated. Another thing that happens with a society like this is that they have developed the ultimate weapon. It is a beam weapon and highly efficient as
well as accurate. They protect themselves from being killed with these beams, with shiny metallic and reflective suits that are very light weight. The beams may bounce off of them but a bullet doesn't even notice them. They forgot about bullets." He laughed at that and continued. "The first thing we will do is destroy their capability to make any protection against bullets. We will also destroy their ability to recharge their weapons or make weapons
like ours as well. This is intended to be a quick attack with a minimum amount of bloodshed."
"Fortunately when we left, the technology that makes all of this possible that we are doing here, left with us. Those we left behind like us were attacked and forced to leave much later, after things got worse. The government destroyed everything in their fear of us. In that one single act lies the very basis for their defeat. They have no idea where we went or more specifically what we are capable of. Those that Greg is training will be sent in
ahead of all of us, their supplies will lie buried in the wilderness areas surrounding their areas of operation. They all have active and functioning identifications now. No! They don't know how to do that. The identifications I mean, we kept them from learning that and they are going to be dependent on us for supplies. We felt it would be a bad idea to teach them how re supply themselves. They are bad news and would recreate the same kind of tyranny
we are about to undo. We are going to use them to disrupt infrastructure while we go in and take over, after the initial attack that is. We will be welcomed as peace the bringer where ever we go. They shall be brought to their knees in a matter of a week or two at the most."
He looked down into her now saddened emerald eyes and said "Why don't I take you home for the night and we can come back in the morning?" Khrys put her head against his shoulder and said she really would like to get away from all of this. He smiled at her soft and sad voice, it was almost childlike. He kissed her and said "All of this is necessary and we will turn control back over to the people. We have no intention of staying with them any
more, they can't be trusted. They would just turn on us in the long run. We are just giving them a clean slate and a new look at their history as well as a new start. I intend to live with you from here on out on Rhydin."
Zach and Khrys were getting ready to board his ship to head back to Rhydin when the ships had just finished loading. Zach stopped and looked at Khrys "Wait you haven’t ever seen this have you?" She looked at him and said she hadn’t seen it from the outside only from the inside and laughed. He thought that was a rather obvious answer on her part and laughed as well. Pulling her off to the side a good distance he told her to get ready for a
really interesting display of what technology could do. He looked over at her and pointing to a group of smaller ships like his and said "They will be flying a six axial fighter escort there will also be a group ahead of them flying a net and alert mission." As he finished speaking there was a high pitched whining that was starting as soldiers ran into ships. No sooner had they entered then the hatches closed and the ships would lift a few feet into
the air and just hang there. The whine was getting higher and louder and there was a crackling sound in the air. Khrys noticed that her hair was lifting up as was Zachs. Suddenly almost in unison the massive struts and landing pads literally disappeared. The hatches where the struts had been were slammed shut with a thud and a whir.
The ships just hung there now noiselessly lights were turning on all over them. Then there was a deafening boom and there was nothing there. Zach looked over at Khrys who had just jumped up into her floating hair and laughed at her "That was the sound of the air slamming back together where they were." Holding her by the hand he led her back to the ship and they went home. "They will be back in the morning when we get here and we will go
with them, there is a lot of materiel to be moved."

The following day Khrys returned with Zach. When they arrived there was barely anybody there except the general and a skeleton crew. Zach looked at Khrys "I never formally introduced you to the General did I?" She smiled at him and said "No, you didn’t. He was kind enough of course to introduce himself." Smiling at her and with an apologetic look he asked her "What did he say his name was?" She wasn’t too sure where this was going
and said questioningly "He said his name was General Deseret. Why?" He laughed at that and said "That is his name but that’s not what we call him however. We call him General Disarray. Not because he is unorganized but because that is what his plans cause. Always!" Pulling her towards his quarters he said "Why don’t we go and talk to him for a while?"
When they got there he had just finished strapping everything down and closing everything up in there. He had fixed a couple cups of coffee for them however. He and Khrys got started talking and Zach left them alone while he went to check on a few things. When he came back a while later Khrys was looking at pictures of the suffering on his home planet. She was plainly distressed and shocked at what she was seeing. There were tears in her
eyes over some of what she was seeing. Zach looked at the pictures and looked at her and said " 'Absolute power corrupts absolutely.' The really sad thing is that those people you see suffering there did this to themselves. They allowed it to happen to their neighbors and never stopped to think that it would come their way as well. It did and it always does. Some time from now they will probably do it to themselves again. Those are" he said as he
tapped the pictures "the wages of selfishness."
Looking at General Deseret, Zach asked "Is everything ready to be handed over to Greg yet?" The General laughed and said "Yes it is, and to your specs too, I might add." Zach smiled back at him and said "Good! That will keep the nasty little animals under control, if they decide to do what we expect them to do. If they don’t do it, no harm done. They will only get hurt if they do the wrong thing. But I’ll tell you right now those guys are
as racist as any I’ve seen." The General nodded in agreement to that as he poured another cup of coffee for Khrys. At that there was a sound like millions of bees swarming. Zach stepped out the door as the ships began landing and the loading procedures began again. After several hours a forklift went over to the now vacant living quarters and picked them up. It was loaded in a few moments and everybody was getting ready to leave.
Zach and Khrys boarded his ship and left with them. Khrys was shocked at the silence and speed with which everything was done. They took off and landed and were unloading less than twenty one minutes after they had taken off. The first things unloaded were the living quarters for the officers. There was one there with Zachs name on it and he took Khrys inside to have a look. "I will probably have to spend a little time here and if you are
up to it, you are welcome to stay with me. I would like that, if you think you can." She smiled at him and agreed to but said "I don’t want to have to see the war. I can tell this is going to be horrible. I for one, am not sure I can handle that." He looked at Khrys and said "I handle it only because someone has to. Nobody with any feelings enjoys it. So I understand."

The next couple of months slipped by uneventful except for the next graduation. There were very few new recruits for Gregs bunch of misfits. The people that were rescued later had indeed learned their lessons quite well and wanted nothing to do with tyranny in any form. When this was noted all of Zachs friends got a disgusted laugh out of it. Zach said "Why is it that nobody learns from other peoples mistakes ‘as in history’? It
is true that man is at his best when things are the absolute worst." Zach had done the graduation thing again for the next bunch as well.
All of the food stores were up to the required levels as well as ammunition. In several months they would make their move. Greg was sitting there with Zach and Khrys in his quarters and he had brought his wife much to Zachs surprise. "I didn’t know you where married. I can’t believe that you actually found someone that crazy." Greg laughed at that and said "Back at ya bub!" They both laughed at that. Zach asked Gregs wife Cindy how she had
liked his trainees. Cindy looked at him and appeared as though she was about to erupt. "Those are the craziest and stupidest people I have ever had the displeasure of meeting." She then gave a shudder. Zach laughed at that and said "So you don’t like racist lowlifes then. Is that what you are trying to say?" Greg walked over by Zach and put his hand on one of his shoulders and looking at Cindy and Khrys he said "Just think, after this is over we" He
pointed at Zach and himself "will have to go hunt those idiots down." Zach looked at Greg and exclaimed "Wah I aint had this much fun since the hogs et mah little brother." They both started laughing uncontrollably at that point. Greg stopped laughing and said "Don’t you worry yer pretty little haids bout us none. It’ll be just like ole times."
Zach got serious for a moment "Greg do you think they will try it?" Greg set his drink down rather hard and exclaimed "Oh Yeah! I can guarantee that. These guys know what’s best for everybody else. They don’t seem to understand that they are no different than those we are getting ready to oust. You know me the forgiving and patient one. I gave them quite a few chances to change their tune and they didn’t " Zach replied "Their choice! Did
you let them know that wasn’t the goal of the whole thing?" Greg told him that he had and they had agreed with him and clamed up. "That made my job of misinforming them much easier." Greg smiled and looked over at Zach "Did you set the charges up like we planned?" Zach smiled at him and said "Yup! Did you teach them that the wave in an explosion moves like a laser from front to back and the explosion is propagated at that point from back to front?"
Then both Greg and Zach in unison said "Only after the initial disruption of the first wave passing through." They looked at each other and burst out laughing. Greg laughing said "How did you come up with all of that? It sounds so technical and rational."
Zach looked at him and smiled again "It is such a shame that when they begin rigging their own explosives if they turn on us they will be standing on the wrong end of the shock wave." "You did warn them Greg, that they don’t want to open any of the charges that are pre assembled under any circumstances didn’t you?" Greg nodded and added "They understand they are all target specific. They don’t know why they are that way, only that they
are." Zach asked Greg "Did you teach them how to care for their sleeping bags and tents?" Greg responded quickly "Yes! I even taught them to pray and spray when in a pinch. That will work on anyone but the right people. Meaning us of course." They played a couple of board games and then retired for the night.

Greg nodded and added "They understand they are all target specific.

Zach and Greg got together the next morning and Greg asked Zach "So, are you sure that you don't have any idiots in your group?" Zach laughed at him over his coffee some of which splattered into his lap because of the laugh. "No! I'm sure I do have some of the idiots in my group. We are running about five percent and we spread them out evenly so they are outnumbered in their groups nineteen to one. Peer pressure should control them quite
well."
Greg looked at him and started to count on his fingers with his eyes rolled towards the ceiling in mock concentration.
Zach watched with an amused look on his face and said "You will have to take your shoes off to do this one Greg and when you do, remember each little piggy is five percent. We can play like your fingers are toes as well in this case." Then Zach really got an evil look in his eyes and said "Ooops! I forgot you have six digits on each foot don't you! Gosh Greg I think this is really going to be hard for you. Why don't you just take my word
for it."
They both heard a noise at the door and looked at the same time. It was Khrys and Cindy. They were just looking at the two of them and shaking their heads. Cindy said with a look of disbelief on her face "I thought you guys were supposed to be on the same side."
Greg and Zach repiled in unison "We are!" They both got up and got the ladies some coffee and sat them down at the table.
Khrys looked at the two of them and asked "So! Are the mighty conquerers still planning their attack?"
Zach looked at her and said "Nope! That's already done. We are just working out the finer points." She listened intently and asked "Such as?"
Zach smiled at her "We were getting ready to discuss how I have trained my guys. I do believe you were getting ready to ask me some questions weren't you Greg?"
"Yes Zach I was, did you teach them bounding overwatch as applied for both insertion and extraction? Did you teach them the same hand signs we used? Walking to avoid trip wires? Ambush techniques as well as counter ambush techniques? What time did you give them and train them for as far as intitiating breakoff and final call for ambush?"
Cindy and Khrys both watched Greg as he asked the entire list of questions at once and then threw his hands in the air and say "What's the matter? Cat got your tongue? I don't hear you!"
Both Khrys and Cindy said in unison "Sheesh! Give him a chance to answer."
Zach interjected quickly "Ladies I can fight my own battles!" Zach quickly turned to Greg and said "Sheesh! Give me a chance to answer!....Yes! Yes! Yes! Ten and fifteen seconds!" Zach held out and elbow to Greg and said "Breakfast Greg?"
Greg hooked his arm in Zachs' and said "Don't mind if I do!"
As they sat down Khrys asked both Greg and Zach "Don't you feel like you are betraying those people?"
They looked back at her and Greg said "There will be no betrayal unless they initiate it. If they decide to attack us, we have made sure that they will lose. All we have done is make sure they don't get away with what we suspect very strongly they will try to do."
Zach pointing to all of the insignias on the wall asked Khrys "Which one of those insignias would you choose for these people? That is if you were in their situations."
She looked around and said "That one right there!" He smiled and asked "Which one do think the lowlifes picked?" She looked around and couldn't really pick one out.
He then asked "Which one makes you feel really uncomfortable? Which one would you least like to have as your insignia?" Both Khrys and Cindy picked the same one.
Greg smiled at them "Gosh it works everytime doesn't it Zach?" "Yes Greg it does! See Ladies that is the one they picked........It is something in the human psyche. " The rest of the meal was spent discussing the collective unconscious and various other things of interest.

As the day of the attack drew near, Zach had to spend more time there on his old planet. It had become obvious the racists were going to cause trouble. Greg had pointed out to everybody that these folks couldn't even get along with each other. When he had trained them he had to set up separate groups based on their ethnic backgrounds. Zach and his group had hoped that all of these people would cancel each other out by attacking
each other, but it appeared as though that just wasn't going to happen. The one guy in charge of all the groups had most definitely been underestimated. He had pulled them all together and they agreed to work together to a common goal. That goal would end in betrayal, of course, but not until General Deseret and his forces had been wiped out.
Greg had managed to really give the guy a swollen head. He thought all of the rest of the folks were grunts and he was the Special Forces. His view was that he was basically running the show. He would be the 'Great Liberator'. A meeting had been called to inform them of this turn in events, and it had been decided that Field Commander Wilkerson would be brought in and this view reinforced. He was obviously a megalomaniac, so why not feed that
view if it can be used as well. The meeting hall had been arranged with this in mind. Wilkersons standard was in the position of highest honor. It was above all of the rest of them.
Field Commander Wilkerson was walked in that morning and it was a gala affair. He was commended for all of his efforts thus far and was then allowed to address the group. Everybody had been told to not talk to him in private under any circumstances and to agree with him as to his position of power. They all did a nice job. When he left they all sat around and either felt sickened or laughed about it.
There wasn't a single person there that liked the man as they knew what he was thinking about doing. They all cheered in unison as he was handed a large gold electrical switch on a plaque. He was given the date for his attack to begin and convinced that he held the ultimate power in that world at that point. The capacity to shut down just about everything. He believed that quite easily as that was how the government was controlling it's people.
He had asked for additional supplies and had been told they were on their way. But that these loads would be small and would have to stay that way until the enemy had been blinded.
The job of blinding the enemy was left to the regulars who were the pilots and had stayed in that position. The people of this planet were not going to be allowed access to this technology. They may have been fellow citizens but they were not going to allow them to spread their idiocy throughout the galaxy. There were enough rotten races out there as it was. Intelligence had located all satellites that gathered both passive and active data and
transmitted it to the planets surface. They had also located all of the communications satellites as well. The correct number of generating stations had already been built to provide service almost as fast as it was taken out. It had been estimated that all power on the planet could be reinstated within a few days. Which was a good thing since it was all going to shut down in a period of about four hours. That is after they gagged, blindfolded and
grounded the current regime.
General Deseret and Greg walked to Zachs' quarters with him and they kept casting Zach sidelong glances and smiling to each other the entire time. Khrys noticed this from a distance and just watched. She was somewhat puzzled because Zach looked pretty ticked off. She got something to drink for everybody in the room and then sat down and watched as the display continued for a while longer. Finally Greg
couldn't contain himself any longer and he put his hand on Zachs' shoulder and said, "And you damn well better not screw up boy or you will have me to deal with personally. Do you understand that boy?"
Greg and the General both broke out in hysterical laughter at Zach who started to laugh himself. Greg then said, "That was great Zach! Yes sir! You can count on me sir! We are all in this together and I understand how important what you are doing is in this operation sir. Zach how did you do that and look so scared? You were shaking and everything. I was truly impressed."
Zach decided to share Khrys in the chiding as she looked really perplexed. "Are you asking me how I managed to look so frightened?" Both Greg and The general nodded their heads grinning wolfishly. "I was thinking of two words when I started shaking uncontrollably."
They said "What were those two words Zach?"
He looked at Khrys and then at the floor and muttered quietly "I do!" General Deseret put his arm around Khrys and gave her a great big hug. She finally laughed and asked what happened during the meeting as Zach had looked a little angry. The General said "Well Herr Field Commandant Wilkerson let Zach know that he was a nothing as far as he was concerned. He also let him know that he would kill him if he didn't do his job."
Khrys looked at Zach and then the general and said "And what did you say to him?" He laughed "We all clapped and agreed with him. Greg was kind enough to remind Zach that he was nothing without the Commander and that the entire success of the war depended on the commanders success."
Khrys was shocked "Zach what did you do?" He smiled at her "What didn't I do is more important, really."
In disbelief now she asked "Okay..... What didn't you do?" He looked into her eyes and smiled "I didn't shoot him on the spot. Greg is right. This guy is going to go over the top and then I can shoot him." He looked at Greg and General Deseret and said, "I would like some time away for a couple of days if you don't mind. When do you want me to come back?"
The general patted him on the back and said "Two days. OK?" Zach told him that would be fine. The General asked if he could talk to Khrys for a few minutes while he was getting ready to leave and he said "Sure no problem." Zach went off to get ready and then thought of something. He stuck his head back in and asked if Greg and Cindy wanted to go with him "That is if the General will let you." General Deseret smiled and told him that they all
needed a brief break. So Greg and Cindy went as well.

As Zach, Greg and Cindy went to start getting their things together for the trip back to RhyDin, the General pulled Khrys aside. "Khrys, can I talk with you for a moment?" He looked at Zach as looked up from what he was doing, "I'll just keep her a few minutes. Then you can all be on your way."
As she walked with him to his office/quarters, they chatted about various things, mostly inconsequential. It was obvious from his level of distraction that the General had something on his mind. As they entered his quarters, Khrys couldn't help but be impressed. There were beautiful paintings, and statuary tastefully displayed about the room. The furniture was obviously built for a large man, but it, too, was graceful and tasteful. He moved
to the small kitchen area as she seated herself on the couch. "Would you like something to drink? Coffee, tea?"
"Tea would be nice after all the coffee, I think. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, that is." She watched him as he moved around his small kitchen. He seemed quite comfortable brewing the tea himself. "I'm sure you wanted more than just to share a cup of tea, General. Is there something special on your mind?"
With his back to her as he finished with the tea, he answered. "Yes, Khrys, I did. I am pleased that Zach met someone like you. I always knew he would." He turned carefully, carrying a tray with the cups of tea, sugar, cream and some lemon wedges to the table in front of the couch. "I know you hear him make jokes about this war and what he is getting ready to do. I want to ask you if you think he means any of those jokes. I also want to do
this so you will know what to expect." Taking a seat on the couch next to her, he hands her a small, almost delicate porcelain cup.
Taking a sip of tea to cover her quiet as she thinks, Khrys reflects for a moment on Zach's recent behavior. " Mmm. This is good, thank you............ Well.... As with all jokes, as you say, I think there must be some element of truth behind it. I'm just not sure how much is the truth of it, and how much is JUST the joking." She looks into her cup of tea for a moment, looking for all the world like a fortune teller trying to decipher the
riddle of the leaves within. "I understand that he has a deep dislike for this Wilkerson man.... but I truly hope......" She smiles faintly as her voice fades with the thought unspoken.....
"Both Greg and Zach do joke a lot but the reason they do it is that they are men of action. When they initiate this war they will have already have made their choices as to what had to be done. In a war there is no time for deliberation of any sort." He pauses for a moment to sip his tea, watching the effect his words have. "There can be no scond guessing or you will be killed by the person that isn't deliberating the morality of the situation.
What they are doing right now with all of those jokes is starting the process of burying those feelings. They will feel bad about some of the mistakes they are going to make later. But they know better than to think about morality until it is over. War is one of the most painfull things in the world. He does seem to hate Wilkerson but you will in time see why. That man is evil and as bad as those we are getting ready to overthrow."
Softly, Khrys answers. "I certainly can understand why he would be doing that, but I've never found the hardening of your heart to be a solution to something." Taking another small sip of her tea, she continues with the thought. "I've never been involved in war in the way that Zach is, but I can't imagine that neglecting the morality of the situation until it's passed is right. That would seem to be more of doing as you think right, and then
justifying it later. A 'the ends justify the means' type of thinking." Looking at him quizzically, she's not sure if she's fully understanding what it is he's trying to convey to her, or if he comprehends her thinking as well.
Smiling at her, he shakes his head and chuckles softly. "I know what you mean. It would look like that if you didn't understand. In a war one is seldom dealing with the guilty. One is dealing with quite often those that have no idea that what they are doing is wrong. It is also not a fight with one individual, there are many involved. To stop and deliberate will cause you to be killed by someone who doesn't think at all. Because you don't know
who is and isn't thinking, you can take no chances. The morality of a war is always going to be self defense, liberation or domination. Domination is always evil and not something any of us here would do. What we are doing is stopping the murder this regime has created and liberating the victims. Their morality is something that one does before one even starts something like this." He paused for a moment and looked into her eyes to gage her level of
understanding. "The feelings have to be buried deep because once again they will cause you to hesitate at the wrong moment. The feelings will come back after it is all over and when they do it is devestating to just about everybody."
Sipping her tea as she listens, Khrys nods her head in comprehension. "I think that I understand. This would seem to be a need for the greater good to win the day."
He looks at her, wondering if she has any idea what a mess this could become before it is all over with. "Since you are going to take Greg and Cindy with you, I probably ought to warn you. They can get pretty wild together. Zach and Greg will continue to get a little sillier as they get closer to the attack. Just try to understand that they are scared to death as well. That is another thing they have to bury as far as their feeling are
concerned." He places a hand on her shoulder and looks into her eyes. "You will have to be as strong as he is. I have already told Cindy this, as well. You do not want to make him worry that you aren't able to deal with this, or he will not be able to concentrate on staying alive and getting the job done. You will have the hard part of that task. He will be real busy and all you will be able to do is worry. Try to understand his worries. He loves
you and I am glad he found someone."
As they finish their tea, she stands to leave. Giving the General a hug and a gentle kiss on his cheek, Khrys smiles warmly up at him. "I don't know if I really understand all of what's going to happen. I pray that I never need to understand war and it's waging. But I do understand that I love Zach... and I trust him. I'll try not to worry him."
As they near Zach's quarter's after a walk in companionable silence, Khrys looks again to the General with a warm smile and takes his hand. "Thank you, General. I'll do the best for Zach that I can." At that moment Zach appeared in the doorway and she moved into his arms. Giving him a light kiss on the cheek, they move inside to finish getting ready for the trip home.

understanding.

Upon returning to the OP center Zach was informed by a particularly cute intelligence officer that the enemy had begun using shielded flying craft. "Fortunately" She continued, "they still have a rotten method of propulsion. They just haven't figured that part out just yet that is." Her name was Debbie and Zach hadn't seen her in years. Zach thought to himself how fortunate it was that he was engaged. That way he thought he at least won't
be as distracted by her. By the time she was through everybody in the room had a pretty good idea what they would have to do.
General Deseret stood up and went to the head of the table " Well! That Debbie was by far the most enjoyable intel briefing I have ever seen." Raising his eyebrows at the men in the room he asked "Wouldn't you agree that was the most enjoyable intelligence briefing you have ever seen?" Everybody nodded in the affirmative. He continued "Now! Did anybody hear it?" A ripple of laughter spread through the room. Debbie was blushing a little
but still enjoying the attention as well. "Let's do a quick test here to see how sharp we are today, as it were." "Should we blind, ground or gag them first? Raise your hand if you think blinding them is the most important thing to do first." Barely anybody raised a hand. "Ground them?" Most everyone raised their hands this time. "Gag them?" A few hands went up there as well but most favored grounding them.
The General laughed and said "Well now everyone knows who works in intelligence and who works communications." That brought a good laugh from everyone. "What each of us does is equally important but not always as dangerous. I am not saying this to anybody but you new troops. Remember this at all costs. If you remember this we wont be having any breakdowns."
In a very serious tone he started again " The general strategy is to ground everything they have and we think we can do it in a matter of a half an hour. Then we will take out communications at the main centers that should be rather quick. We will use EMPs'....the same thing we will be using on the satellites. We will now break up into separate groups. There is no sense in wasting everybody’s time with anything unnecessary to their
orders. From here forward we will go on a need to know basis. We will find life much easier that way. It will also prevent us from second guessing each other and moving at the wrong time."
They were all broken up into separate groups at that point and orders that were very specific were handed down at that time. Zach and Greg were to join the ground troops only after the air was cleaned up completely. All of the equipment and supplies given to Greg’s misfits had been tagged so it could be located with active sensors. The tags weren’t all the same either, different codes were given off for each generic item such as ammo
weapons etc. Because the number of original troops wasn’t but a few hundred they were spread thin and were to be multifaceted in the operation. They would all be doing fighter missions, supply and freighter before it was all over.
At the end of the day Zach went back to his quarters and fell into Khrys’s arms almost asleep on arrival. Judgement and Mercy were there as he would use them in the field during the ground operation. Thor he had left behind as he did get a little rowdy at times and although he would be able to hear the air moving through a trip wire he wouldn’t know what to do. He would probably go fetch it to bring back to so Zach. He didn’t want to have
Thor do himself in either and fetching a trip wire is usually the last thing an animal ever does. Khrys let him sleep and just watched him all night wondering what the next day would bring. She couldn’t figure how he could sleep. When he got up the next day he was going to go out and destroy an entire world and then help slowly put it back together. What had taken years to do would be undone in a matter of four hours. All she could think of was,
would he be all right, would he survive.
When Zach was awakened by the sound of the alarm Khrys was already shutting it off. "Khrys why didn’t you go to sleep dear?" She ran her fingers through his hair and said "I am scared at what will happen to you today." He sat up grabbed her gently by a handful of hair and pulled her to him kissed her and leaned back smiling. Suddenly he stood in a crouch on the bed so his knuckles were in fists and still on the bed just like a gorilla.
He bounced around a bit and loudly did the chest beating all the time going "Ooooo! Oooooo! Uh! Oooooo!" Stopping right in front of a disgusted Khrys he said "Me bad to the bone! No one kill Zach cuz Zach kill them! You no understand! I no get hurt! They get hurt!" Kissing her on the lips he jumped over her landing on the floor. She got a little disturbed and then remembered what the General had told her about what he was doing. It tore her up
inside. She wanted to take him and hold him and just cry, but she knew that might be the thing that got him killed. So she laughed and decided she would wait to cry and be scared until after he left. The General had told her she would have to be as brave as him. He had also told her that waiting would be the most horrible thing she ever went through.

Greg, Cindy, Zach and Khrys all ate breakfast that morning. Barely a word was spoken in the entire hall. It sounded like a mausoleum. Khrys and Cindy were exchanging silent screams with their eyes. After they finished every one headed for the flight line to get moving. Zach and Greg when they turned to their loves had a hint of a tear in their eyes, they did fight it back and kissed them good bye. Zach turned and looked at Khrys "I
love you! Please don’t worry me, Love, I shall return in victory." As he sat down he thought about how much he loved her and suddenly felt more resentment towards the people he was about to help than he knew he was capable of.
After about an hour of checks and rechecks of data and coordinates the time had arrived. The fields were active and they were air born in seconds. The first target Zach had was an air base about one thousand miles away. He had to delay his arrival about five minutes so every one could engage their target at the same time. Hoping this would cause them to jam themselves with an excess of panic calls to some extent. As his small group of ships
passed over the lonely outpost it became even more lonely. If it had electronics of any sort it didn’t work any more. If it had wings those were cut off with lasers on the way over. The power was turned off as well and for the base it would be off for a good while.
All of the bases had been destroyed functionally in a semi permanent manner. There wasn’t anything on the planet that they were aware of that could fly any more. They all turned to the orbiting snitches and started frying them as quickly as they could. The satellites and air capacity was completely wiped out within a few minutes. They had been grounded and blinded in half the time they thought it would take. Near pandemonium had broken out in
the intelligence and military community below them. Fifteen minutes had passed since the initiation of the assault. All of the ships moved to the main power center of the planet. It was the biggest city ever created. It was the size of a medium size state and all industry was there. There were other cities but all of them were small and dependent on this one for everything.
Both Zach and Greg flew security missions while their buddies did the dirty work. All of the communication centers had the towers blown right out of the ground or cut. As they patrolled they were suddenly surprised by red dots on the walls of the nav rooms. It was interesting to watch the flight patterns. They were most definitely experimental and pretty much out of control. All except for one…..and that one seemed to like Zach. As it neared a
hail of missiles came from it and his ship jumped about one mile high avoiding them completely. As the ship started to pass beneath him the computer dropped the ship directly over it and laid a nice big EMP on it, causing it to freeze in mid air. It appeared to just hang there for a second and then it began to accelerate as it fell to the surface below. The fall terminated in a hail of sparks and a vanishing blip on the wall.
This scene was repeated all over the planet that night until all cities were incapable of communication. The next targets were the weapons storage and manufacturing capabilities for the weapons, as well as the charging units. Unfortunately they really didn't have time to differentiate and they destroyed transportation charging units as well. After that was complete the ground troops were engaged. Wilkersons Wild Waiders, as Zach called
them, went after the power facilities. The old body armor factories were attacked next as well as the ammunition and firearm factories.
That was the first surprise of the night. Zach wasn't too surprised when Greg's ship shot over next to his and fired an I.R. laser digitized message into his receiving array. 'Mud with lights leading many mud with no lights on Fac at Ariz one dispatch immediately!' The coordinates had already been fed in automatically as the verification codes though invisible to the readout were present. Zach sighed "Well this will be interesting. Wilkerson
has someone on the inside because they have untagged weapons. Nothing like diverting a few shipments, the new kids always miss something. They did teach their nasty little friends to cover up with mud to mask the thermal imaging." He sent a quick message to General Deseret to inform him of the new development so they could ferret out the spy.
"Komputer open channel." The metallic voice quickly responded "Open" Zach’s mind was racing "Greg are our guys through yet?" Greg quickly answered "Yes! You want to do this ourselves?" Zach smiled to himself "Yes ! I think we should if possible. The locals are most definitely busy and there is no room for error on this one. We have to wipe them out, these guys are traitors and will only regroup later. No prisoners!" Greg laughed "They are on
their way and will be ready to go when we arrive. Coordinates locked in go jump?" "Go jump!" Both ships left the area with a deafening explosion. If there were windows below them as they screamed through the air they weren't there after they passed.
By the time they arrived a landing area had been located where they fit as well. Greg and Zach landed and were out the doors with everything they would need. As they left the ships they ordered the guardian to activate and for their ships to hover above ground staying close by. A conspiratorial grin passed between the two of them as they started to the troops that had off loaded. Greg looked at Zach and smiled "Well here we go again?" "Oh
yeah!" Zach answered. The demolition teams had been ordered to get it all ready to blow, but to wait until this was over. They wanted them to keep coming so they could remove the blighted minds from this world.

Six platoons had arrived and both Zach and Greg got with the sergeants to discuss the iron triangle. They were to be split up into three groups of two platoons. One group was to spread out the platoons so that they were end to end.and folded at a ninety degree angle with the other half of each platoon taking security. The heavy machine guns were to be on the ends of the line facing the approaching enemy. To the insides of the two garbage
disposals would be half of each platoon. There would also be half of each platoon to the outsides of each heavy machine gun as well. The first group lined up and set their positions. Greg and Zach led the other two groups out into the woods to become the pinchers. They would have to rotate silently into position as the enemy passed into the area without detection. It was a tricky maneuver but deadly. The enemy would be trapped in a three hundred and
sixty degree cross fire and anybody that escaped would be in a one hundred and twenty degree cross fire. Any attempt to side swipe would be met by another firing line that was still sizable. It was a tactic that they wouldn't have attempted with anybody but their own. There was no room for error.
Zach and Gregs two groups set out to form the pinchers. Zach gave the hand sign and the two platoons got in line forty five feet apart. Not a word was spoken by any body. When he pointed forward the front soldier in each line raised his rifle and rapidly moved forward about fifty feet. Scanning the entire area as they did so when they reached the stop point they faced at a forty five degree angle to the line they had each traveled. As
soon as they stopped, the second set of soldiers went up in between them with their rifles raised and ready as soon as they passed, the two that were in front turned outward. They now only had a one hundred and eighty degree arch to cover. When they came to a stop the third set moved forward and the same process of leapfrogging through the woods was continued until they reached their destination. The results were that the entire group had moved
forward at the same speed that one could travel running, but they had made no more noise than two people would.
When they arrived they set up security and listening posts. The enemy was going to be there in about five minutes and they were tightly clustered. The one thing the enemy had in it's favor was numbers. It was obvious they thought it was going to be easy. Zach thought to himself ''Why wouldn’t they? They had been trained by the best.' He smiled to himself and stepped up to his garbage men and their feeders. "Are you ready for this guys?
You are going to have to set up real quick and watch your angles. We have all done this before, so just don’t lose your heads."
They both gave him a thumbs up and smiled. One of them quietly whispered "Happiness is a belt fed weapon." Zach smiled back at him and said "Only if you're the delivery boy." "Sir?" Zach had heard it before from him but turned back towards him "Yes?" "Are you callin me boy." Zach laughed quietly "What a turkey. Get ready!"
As Zach slowly sunk to the ground everybody else did as well. They were getting well within earshot now but starting to quiet down. Everyone was a little nervous that they had gotten there too late and they would begin to fan out early. But that fortunately didn’t happen. They stopped right between Zach and Gregs troops and had a little pep talk. His earphone crackled to life "Deja vu?" Zach quietly answered "Yeah I think we all
remember this from times past. All we can do is hope we are more fortunate this time." Greg responded "If we are busted this time as well, can I shoot you?" Zach smiled to himself "Nope! This time there are enough of them ‘they’ will probably shoot me. Terribly sorry!"
Minutes ticked by and then they began to move again, much to every ones relief. As they moved forward the two pinchers closed in behind them. He had sent out a team looking for security and it turned out they had no rear guard at all. These guys were really arrogant.
Zach waited until Greg said he was ready "You guys still awake up there? They have entered the iron triangle." "Roger we are ready to rock and roll." "Ready to set time on my mark…….Mark! Wake up call in ten." All across the line the safeties went off one at a time. They had been trained even in the sequencing of that. Scarcely a sound was made. No more than two safeties went off at the same time, as it had radiated from the center of
the line and worked it’s way out.
Every one was ready and they were listening to Zach "Four…..three…..two…..one!" It was as though a bomb had gone off everything was firing at once. The lighter weapons were staggering their fire so no one had to reload at the same time. The air was filled with the smell of cordite and the sound of bullets ripping through the air, it was unnerving. In the process the few trees that were near the enemy fell over. "Cease fire" Zach
ordered "Let the air clear a bit and don’t move. Total silence!"
The night was filled with the occasional groan of the wounded nobody was standing. The entire area was covered by what had turned into a layer of low lying smoke drifting eerily towards the troops. It roiled and stretched across the ground seeking revenge.

As soon as Zach and Greg returned to the Facility after cleaning up everything usable left in this world by the enemy troops, the timers on the charges were set. The moment the troops had set the charges they were on the ships and on the way to the next target. As they would zip off the entire facility would go up. They left nothing behind but scrap metal and ashes. Sleep was a scarce commodity for everyone for a few days.
The ground troops were used to release any one in the many concentration camps they were using for re-education or extermination. These people were armed, outfitted, fed and really mad. Each of the trainees that Zach had trained took twelve under their wing and trained them. They had all learned a really hard lesson about power. All of them were willing to help out. With minimal training, they were on the way back to the city in a few days.
The ranks had swollen by twelve times now. Those that had abused them and locked them up were completely wiped out within a few days.
The job was now left to the locals. General Deseret's troops would watch and wait now. They were nothing more than the police, conscience and reconstruction crew from this point forward. It was time to wait while the conflict was settled and then help with the rebuilding process. After a few days they began landing power stations and hooking them up as soon as it was determined that an area was stable. The huge power center was to be the last
area fixed.
Wilkerson had done a nice job of rounding up loonies. He had reopened one of the many camps and had gone right back into business. Some of the troops from the old regime had joined him. When Zach heard of it he lifted his head from Khrys’s lap and said "Do what you're good at. Do what you love and the money will follow." Greg hit himself in the forehead and laughing said "Well ain't he the smart one!" General Deseret leaned across the couch
and pushed Zachs’ head back into Khrys’s lap and said "The local command said they will try to handle it themselves." Then he looked at Khrys and asked "Would you like to see how we can also put things back together again as well?" Khrys smiled brightly at the General and said "You mean you don’t just break things?" He smiled back at her and said "Zach why don’t you take her out for a look around so she can see what good we have done." Zach stood up
and stretched "Do you want me to destroy it while I’m there?" Khrys got up and dusted him across the top of the head playfully and scolded "No! Bad soldier!" Smiling he grabbed her hand and they headed for his ship. Judgement stood up and licked her hand while Mercy laid on the floor wagging her tail. Both had taken to Greg, Cindy and the General quite well.
Khrys and Zach arrived over a small city just as it was about to be 'hooked up' as Zach had called it. A large ship had arrived and troops had disembarked from it. The locals were backed out of the area and the local troops maintained them at a distance. While they were hovering there a very large ship arrived and huge landing struts were deployed as it settled to the ground. As soon as it was settled in Khrys noticed that a ship just like
Zachs detached from the top of it. Workers began connecting electric cables to what had been left behind by the other ship, in a short period of time they had electricity. Everyone was told to go home and that the electricity bills which would be much smaller now, would be worked out later, after every thing had been stabilized all over.
They moved on to the big city where the transportation charging facilities had been restored. Most of the opposition and remnants of the old regime had been jailed or had run off into the woods, hopefully to starve. They were being tracked down as they spoke. Not all had been settled just yet but it would be shortly. The old regime had teamed up with Wilkerson ‘s group of misfits and had gotten one of the camps back up and running. They
were already back in the business of performing their genocide. It had been decided to allow them to think they had gotten away with it and weren’t being monitored. Khrys had gotten upset with him for allowing it and he had laughed at her and said "You were upset that I was going to do in every one of them in and now you want me to. We are just trying to get them to think they are safe so we can get them all in one spot and finish them off."
The ship began to pull away and they drifted over various burned out parts of the city. All of the area was in the process of getting a nice cleanup and some areas were already under construction. Many of the people waved to them as they drifted long with the air currents. Khrys was amazed at the mess below her "Did you guys do all of that damage?" He smiled over at her and said "No we didn’t. When it was obvious to the old leaders that they
were finished they did it. Like a bunch of little kids. 'If I can’t have it neither can you'." She asked "How long will it take to rebuild all of this?" He smiled "A few months should do it."
There was suddenly a message on the wall in red and unintelligible as usual. He looked up and said "Clear and Go jump!" The ship quickly moved away from the area and then the landscape began to scream by. "Khrys we will be busy for a few moments. I’m sorry you had to see this but I must do it…..I have no choice." She just looked at him with a blank expression on her face. She had no idea what was going on and it was obvious Zach didn’t have
time to explain.
