Var,

I have no need to save face. I know what I said that evening and I am well aware of what I have done so, your constant reminders do nothing to change the fact that as of now....your reasons for challenging me are worthless. Because you base them on something that has not happened. My statement was to get the attention of those there.
Your seeming reasoning is little more but an excuse to make a grab at a title Var, and your constant attempts to reinforce your reasoning in the face of my logical explanations and my apologies, of which you have no idea, shows this.
I personally apologized to Luthien if my actions were unseemingly the night after the debate, and Iain and I take little umbrage at each other for taking opposite sides in a debate as we do so often.
What you do not know...and what you refuse to listen to that I have admitted that I was wrong in my approach. And that I was upset at the way Huma had been treated and that I was several cups into a large barrel of ale at the time. I still stand by my reasoning and my belief that Huma or ANY renegade baron should never be so publically castigated by his peers. But your responses have not been the responses of a man that questions my reasons,
but the responses of a man that will not listen to reason no matter how frank and honest the explanation is.
So Var, I am hoping you feel honest now. Now that you have taken this challenge to the level that the former holder of this Ring had. And the mudslinging and name calling has commenced. Because as I said originally in my letter to you. IF you had question as to what I was doing. All you had to do was ask.
You of course took the other route. One hopes you are satisfied...now that you have joined in the politics and the nastiness that you so railed against at one time. Funny...how the hand of a man of peace can be twisted by ambition into a hand of hate.

Ladies and gentlemen of the Duel of Swords,

There are witnesses upon this "debate", saying that it's not only my interpretation of what happened. My intentions are still true, to those that wish to know. As I explained to Adonai in a letter following his explanation...

I believe it is unwise to ask for loyal barons to support renegades... why? Simply, they choose which side of the river they wish to be on. Do all commoners support commoners? Do all warlords support warlords? No. Should they? No. Why? They are on different standings as to political views. This is a sport, and a community, not a convent or brotherhood.

I hold high respect for the baron's ring, and the crown of overlord. However, since Adonai DID say publically, that he sai something similar to "I will join my brother Huma, a renegade" or something to that effect. Before I heard his reasoning, I was planning to wait for my challenge, until I found a good reason to challenge. When he explained, however, that he feels all barons should unite... and the fact he threw insults, I immediately
knew I wanted to challenge him, for his ring.

And for those that witnessed the debate, you know what happened. I know that the ones who witnessed this "debate" realize my reasons for the challenge. I know what I feel, and I am standing up for my challenge. I plan to become baron, and I hope I will succeed.

Lord Adonai,
Despite our differences of what is fact, I want to take a moment to get to the meaning of the duel, instead of my meanings of challenge.

There are two things now that are important with this duel. The first one, of course, is the fact that this duel will be fought with honor and dignity by both of us, instead of throwing mud, as you have stated in the postings. Perhaps it is mud, but what I wanted was the public to know the facts.
The second most important thing, with the duel, is the fact that you and I are both going to stand by what we believe is right. Perhaps we're both right, or perhaps neither of us are right. What matters, is that we stand by our beliefs, and we defend them.
So you know, prior to the duel... I do indeed have a lot of respect for the ranks of title. Whether I win or lose, I still will.
I will, of course, post this letter publically. Not as an attempt to gain support, but more of an attempt to give it. Despite my disagreements with you, I wish to publically show respect towards you, and for the baronial ring. Also, perhaps this letter/posting will show an example of proper sportsmanship. With the arguments lately, over the silliest of things, perhaps it would be better if a little reminder of sportsmanship.

Whether you think that Var is wrong in his reasons for you is not really the point. Or at least it's not my point. You have to realize that the impressions you gave in the....discussion...are not as easily passed off as your drunken ramblings and Var's misperceptions. You were rude, loud, misinformed, and constantly interrupting other's opinions to say how no one listened to you. Maybe some of this can be written off by you as the effects of
the ale. But nothing can write off what you're saying now:

Your statement of renegade alignment was only a conversation opener? That, sir, is low, and insults everyone who happened to be present at the beginning of that debate. Did we listen to your opinions only because you came in claiming you were renouncing loyalty? Those there can answer for themselves, but I know I sure as hell didn't just listen because you wanted to change alignment.

Needless to say, I'll be rooting for Var tonight. In the debate which stemmed this challenge, he acted far more honorably than you did, and has continued to do the same on these boards.
