::trots to the boards and pulls this folder....he is not suprised at the challenge, nor at the response to it......he reads on letter by letter, he comes to Dal's responce and does a little mocking "I'm disgusted" in a funny little voice all to himself, then he stops and writes::

Evan,

I wish you the greatest luck in the whole world, and I stand behind you all the way in this challenge. Perhaps if you win you'll finally get the respect that you deserve. Well I'm rootin for ya and I hope to see you around so we can talk about whatever.

My best wishes,

Ken

In light of the necessity for strict law in this sport, it seems pertinent that I mention Evan's lack of Renegade status as per the official standings at this point. Is it not required that he first make the official transition to Renegade status before challenging the Overlord?

Furthermore, I'm curious to learn how the Overlord is informally bound to support a Renegade Baron, as the would-be challenger alludes to.

In regard to the matter above, I believe this assessment is correct. Considering the fuss made over invalid challenges in recent months what should be done in this case? Since no peer wins are required they can not be stripped, so what would be the consequence in this case? Cancellation of right to challenge for this cycle?

As to the following...

Hell if I know.

To all that care,

The change to Renegade was made before the challenge. So be all I need to say.

Jake endlessly scans the messages from all dealing with the challenge to the overlord. Quite confused... for neither side seems to make sense to him. While Jake dislikes the Overlord beliefs, he personally wouldn't care for the Baron, who may be a renegade now, but he was loyal to the lord. Pacing back & forth, pondering if he should post a message to lend a vocal support, only to remain deadlock. Turns to another post knowing this is not the
time & place to get involved, as he will wait to see how the outcome will define the future.

Evan,

I do care and the reference is to the officially recorded status in the standings. I seem to recall a Warlord some months back that sent in his challenge to the Overlord on the day after a challenge match. This match was not recorded in the standings and therefore said challenger was subjected to much scrutiny, etc.

Several baronial challenges have been in question due to submission of unrecorded peer wins, again meaning things not yet recorded in the standings. This type of thing invalidates challenges. Check with Golden, Helix, or reread the rules if you doubt me.

Ken, I'm sorry to be the one to point it out, but you're kidding yourself. If Evan wins, he'll be far more likely to get a flood of challenges than a flood of sudden respect. Hell, if anyone's worried about Dal and his Champion's skills, they're probably checking their peer win status as we speak. Anyway, Evan's opened a can of worms by challenging a well-liked Overlord split-seconds after his switch to renegade. Whether you like Dal or not,
you're forced to admit that this wasn't the best P.R. move.

::Writes a few words::

I frequently post my two cents, and perhaps this is the one I have thought out most of all.
Perhaps we should stop this arguing, since this is about an issue we have no control over. Let's wait till Helix and Golden settle this.

The Overlord has held on to his position through shrewd wisdom and dexterous skill. He has, at times, overcome steep odds and defended his crown under impossible circumstances, thus making him a hero to the community. Anyone, anyone who defeats Dalamar will suffer instant, widespread hatred and will be attacked by the Overlord's Loyal lapdogs.

Nevertheless, the time for the Overlord's defeat is long overdue.

From the rules on Barons:

> 5. Barons may change their alignment to Renegade at anytime, in writing, to all
> Barons, the Overlord and the Standings Keeper.

If Evan followed that proceedure, as he claims to have, then he has done all that was required of him to change his alignment. This is somewhat different than the issue of peer wins. Here the standings keeper has been explicitly informed... whereas a peer win was more than likely officiated by another caller and the result may well not have made its way into the standings keepers hand for days to follow.

As to Dalamar's popularity, that point is certain. Though, if he follows through with the plan of using the Test of Worthiness against a Baron, I know for fact he'll have at least one less loyal supporter.

To any who are interested,

Historically, the benefit of renegade is that you are able to change your status, with none other than notice to the standings keeper, Overlord and all barons. In challenges of old if the Overlord stepped in on a baron's match, it was not unheard of for a loyal baron to change status then and there (heck using a cocktail napkin) and interceeding against the overlord's intercession.

For all the risks the renegade carries compared to the loyalist, this is one time when the renegade receives benefit of the title.

The peer wins of which I wrote, Kal, were won on one evening and posted with the challenge the next as I recall that's not correct procedure.
