Lupton and Others,
We are here to --help-- the Duel of Swords. In no way are we a threat to the DoS. Nor are we demanding anything... did attacking so many poeple, Lupton... finally blind your vision?
Same to you G, we are here to help, not to hurt. I thought you to be smarter than that.

Tom,
I am indeed smarter than that. I don't fully agree with Luptons take on teh situation. But let me ask this.
How will opposing an Overlord, (Any Overlord) Who sees someone as unworthy to hold the title, such as Dick, for example, and decides to use the test on him to keep him from gaining the mantle of Overlord. How would your House, by trying to put a stop to that test be helping the Duels?
I agree there may be some times it's unessacery to test, but in almost every time that I've witnessed, the test was indeed needed.
In my opinion, Dal has helped DoS more than he has hurt it.

Warlord G'nort,
Our opposition to the Test is the one issue that we have no room for compromise on. We will champion challengers with impartiality and even handedness. If, should it ever arise that a member of our House ascended the throne (which is not one of our major goals, but which may happen someday), we have already decided on one of two courses of action. Either immediately relegating the throne to a Tourney, or declaring ourselves Loyal until such a
time as he invoked the Test himself. In such a case he would be banished from the House, and all Barons of the House would immediately align as Renegades. We are solidly devoted to our opposition of the Test. We believe that:
1.) The Test is unsportsmanlike. A champion of any sort should always face his challenger's personally, and alone.
2.) The Test is unecessary. If someone is truly unworthy, but has managed to gain the right to challenge, one more win or loss won't make them more or less "worthy". In a case where someone truly lacks the skill, the Overlord will defeat them easily. If the case is that they lack the honor or morality necessary in an Overlord, they will be quickly challenged from all sides, and eventually fall.
3.) The Test is too open to misuse. It is easy to respect, if not agree with, Billy Ray's opinion that everyone should be Tested. However, in the past the Test has been used for no other reason that the Overlord personally disliked his challenger.
However, time will prove the truth of my words. Do not fear that we will ever cease to believe our own ideals as a House. And if any member of our House does, they will not be a member anymore.

White duke,
I can assure you as to my not taking personal insult to your original post. If I had you would hear about it both on the boards, and in the ring. As to Baron Var Medici-Giovanni I must agree with the you. Attacking people on the boards personally, calling them sickening is rather unsportsmanlike in my oppinion. And as to Lupton est Dracoern, I think he has the right of it. Perhaps what is rising is a Jihad?

Percival,
While I agree the test may be open to misuse, I don't truly see it as being unsportsmanlike. While everyone is entitled to their opinions, mine is of the fact that I feel that if I were Overlord, and if I felt that they didn't deserve to sit on the throne, I would do everything I could, within my power, to hold them back and make it as difficult as possible to gain the title.
As a Duke, suppose you were at war. Would you allow the opposing army's General to face you alone with the fate of your land hanging in the balance, or would you make it as difficult as you can to let him gain access to your castle?
I would think you would do what you can to defend yourself, title, and land. Much the same as the title of Overlord.
Just my opinion.

Warlord G'nort,
This is not war, this is sport. A very political sport, to be sure, but sport nonetheless. At one time it was a very honourable sport. There was also, once, a feeling of family that encompassed most, if not all, of us here. Now, instead, this feeling still live with many of us. But far from most. Newcomers, I cite Richard, or Ace, or whatever he is calling himself, ZemhulEm, Norritt, and too many others to name as examples, have absolutely no
feeling for this, and what is worse, feel the need to make personal attacks whenever possible to gain recognition. The reason for this, the last several challenges have been conducted by all sides in a VERY unsportsmanlike manner. Adonai's match with Dal was marked by very shameful behavior on the part of Adonai and several of the Loyal Barons and Warlords. His following match with Perrinis was marked by equally shameful behavior on the part of
Perrinis, Adonai, and several of Perrinis's supporters.
What kind of an example is this?
Huma's challenge to Zen, while well handled by Zen, and for the most part honourably, though emotionally, handled by Huma, was very shamefully reacted to by many of the partisans on one side or the other. Zen showed us what we ALL should do in such a situation. Ignore the bad sportsmanship, fight the duel, and put it behind us. Show an example of good sportsmanship to those practicing bad sportsmanship.
Above all, do NOT sink to their level. Two wrongs do not make a right. Instead, a good example should be shown, the challenger defeated, and things gotten on with. If the challenger DOES win, and is truly so offensive, he will find himself opposed on all fronts, and soon defeated.
Finally, I have nothing against Dalamar personally. Nor do any of us. We do not wish to coerce him, just to voice our views and back them up in the ring when necessary. I have the highest respect for him. I just disagree with him.

Friends,
There are a number of issues here that I would address, though I shall do my best to be brief.
Firstly, to Lupton, I must ask this: Is declaring the house against the practices of an Overlord more diabolical than silently bringing the house together to overthrow the Overlord and his Barons? To plot a takeover of a majority of the council? I would think not. Compared to what DoS has seen in the past, this House is straight forward and honest with its objectives and though the statement of purpose may come off slightly harsh, it is to be
lauded that their mission is so easily understood. I find their ideals noble rather than terroristic.. even if I do not fully agree with them.
G'nort, and others of like thinking on the matter: I hope Percival will forgive me for speaking for him here, but I believe that this House would like to see the Duel of Swords taken to the level of sport and less so the political environment that we have today. Again, this is not a stance I fully agree with, I speak not from my own views here. Kings have such things as champions and judge opponents by criteria other than skill... athletes do not.
As such, I do not believe the example you have given holds water to their ideals as written. The prize sought is the championship of the sport, not the crown of the king, and thus it is considered by this house, a matter that should be decided in one on one competition.. Skill being the only criteria that matters.
To the members of House Rising. Percival has outlined a House Doctrine of "attacking people inside the ring and issues without." This shall be a difficult task to say the least. In an attempt to stay within this mandate, Percival has reiterated it no less than three times within this single thread. I must question, however, whether the members of the House shall police each other? Tom Evasion has apparently ignored this mandate, issuing what I
would view as a personal attack, upon both Lupton and G'nort. How shall the House deal with this type of violation? Shall you stand as firmly on this matter as Percival has indicated you shall stand on the issue of Testing?
The charter of a house is only as noble and honorable as its members ability to live by it.
Respectfully,
~Kalamere Ar'Din...

As i have stated i support the house... but i dont agree with all the values of it. That is why i stay out of this debate on the test. For i do feel the test should be used, and practiced in some cases. Yet i support the house because, we do hold many of the same thoughts and ideas. Yet let it be known that i do support the test. The reason i write this is so that people will stop using this against me,
thinking it was the decision of why i turned renegade. I turned for other reasons, of which most know. I give this house my support, and wish them good luck with meeting thier goals.

Baron Lupton, Warlord G'nort, and those others it may concern,
The accusation that we are a "terrorist" group in anyway is somewhat offensive to me. "Terrorists" perform illegal actions, kill innocent people, and attempt to create a climate of fear. Such is not our intent at all. Indeed, we wish a climate of friendship, sportsmanship, and fair play. I can remember a time when no one cared who was Overlord unless they had ambitions in that direction themselves. When, for the most part, we all respected each
other even if we did not like each other. Now it seems that even friends do not respect each other enough to trust each other, and that such respect that does exist is frayed all too easily.
We are a House. We intend to support each other, and work positively for certain common goals. We have political opinions, yes. But our opinions are not as important as our ideals. We are not here to forcibly change anyone, but to set an example. To state what we believe, and to act on it. We do not want anyone to fear us, or obey us. We merely want to be respected and heard. Not even necessarily listened to. Just heard.
Finally, how did we threaten anyone? We claimed we would oppose those who did not respect us. This is merely a way to earn respect, as a worthy opponent if nothing else. Such opposition will be in the ring, at sword's point. Nothing "terrorist" about that, is there?

At all costs? With the way you described the mission of your House, it would seem that you want a climate of friendship, sportsmanship and fair play, or else. This is a community of diversity and it seems that you wish to stamp out this diversity in order to bring in your ideals as the rule.
I do not support any House that would willingly allow someone totally unqualified for the Overlordship (ie an idiot, a tyrant, etc) to attain the title, simply because they oppose the Test, no matter what the situation.

Percival,
You're right, it's best to not stoop to the level of those who are basically looking for attention. It's one reason I choose not to post as often as I should. But would you, in good coscience defend someone who has claimed to have murdered another man in cold blood? Because if what you're saying you'll stand behind were in effect for Dal's challenge against Gaejin, that's precisely what you would have been doing. There are others who I
personally feel have no right or cause to have a title. And yes, I have seen some of the current and recent Barons acting like children squabbling over a piece of candy. Some of whom probably shouldn't have been holders of the title, and were taken out because of such. There are also a decent amount of Warlords who take it upon themselves to act childish, all you have to do is sit and watch, and then realize that this is the future of DoS. If you
wish some of them to be Barons and Overlords, that's up to you.
All I can say is I may respect your decision to stand agaisnt Tests, I just don't have to like it.
On another note,
I never said your house was a terrorist group, I would never presume such from you or your members who I know to be decent people.

personally feel have no right or cause to have a title.

>>The accusation that we are a "terrorist" group in anyway is somewhat offensive to me. "Terrorists" perform illegal actions, kill innocent people, and attempt to create a climate of fear. Such is not our intent at all. Indeed, we wish a climate of friendship, sportsmanship, and fair play.<<
Look up at what I wrote. Lupton is THIS definition of a terrorist.
Us? We mean no harm whatsoever.
>>At all costs? With the way you described the mission of your House, it would seem that you want a climate of friendship, sportsmanship and fair play, or else. This is a community of diversity and it seems that you wish to stamp out this diversity in order to bring in your ideals as the rule.
I do not support any House that would willingly allow someone totally unqualified for the Overlordship (ie an idiot, a tyrant, etc) to attain the title, simply because they oppose the Test, no matter what the situation.<<
Sid, would friendship, fairplay and such --be-- an in quote "or else"? Basically... if there is friendship, and there is sportsmanship, and the is etc. There is no "or else". I'd also like to ask you Sid, define your term of "or else" You think we're gunna go and hurt people like Lupton or something?
