Master Starke,

Do keep thine facts straight. Taylara dinna win the Warlord Tournament. She placed fourth. The three rings available were spoken for by the first, second and third place finishers, whereby Taylara didst receive the right to place challenge unto the Overlord.

Ian,

Perhaps this be an example of a ruling made "off-the-cuff" to use thine phrase.

Thee may nae be aware, but for a brief time during this "special" Tourney, Master Valentine Evermeadow wast prepared to and didst permit the Baron, Master Starke to be named ast a participant, thereby negating his own pronouncements ast to those what wouldst be permitted participation. Mind thee, Master Evermeadow hast more than once reiterated his ruling that title becomes official upon the public placing of the official lists, which made the
participation of Captain Ellisa Morgan right and proper. Comments were made unto Master Evermeadow by some in attendance, though more interesting perhaps wast the lack of comment by certain of those in attendance.

The situation revolved around the warlord Zenith and the fact that his named partner, Lupton est Dracoern wast nae present at the start of the Tourney. Zenith wast permitted to enter the ring, whilst Master Starke awaited at ringside. Lupton didst arrive some time later, and Zenith, for want of a better term, vanished midst his match.

Master Evermeadow subsquently announced that were Zenith nae ta reappear, that Lupton wouldst be permitted to continue and didst set aside his original announcement that wouldst hae permitted the Baron Starke to enter the ring.

Ast matters transpired, Zenith failed to reappear and the team of Zenith and Lupton wast declared forfeit, granting the win unto the team of Andur Salsinger and his partner.

Samething, Jonalyn. She won a prize, so technically, she won.

Regarding Jonalyn's comments about Baron Starke:

I was quite surprised to see his involvement, and was never notified why Evermeadow allowed the Baron to enter. When I asked the official of our match about the turn of events, he responded quite rudely to me, as if I had no right to question the breaking of the rules.

To this point, I still have not seen an explanation offered as to why Baron Starke was allowed into the tournament. An explanation was given for Ellisa Morgan, and that I have no problem with. But to allow Baron Starke to enter at the last possible minute without giving any explanation simply baffles me.

I hope Evermeadow does explain why he chose to break the rules without just saying he did it because he can. At the moment, I believe that is his mentality.

Andur,
I am sorry if my response seemed rude to you, but that was not my intent. I personally was not crazy about Drey being allowed to enter either, which made me a bit bitter. However, I always try to be polite to those present, and while you do have the right to ask, I feel I am not the one you should direct the questions to in this case.
Given that I am there to officiate the duels I am given, I had no say in it. I feel you should have directed your question to Val, who was overseeing the tourney, and I felt my response to you was direct enough.
Again, I did not mean to be rude to you. If my response seemed rude, I hope this response informs you that was not my intent. Again, please direct questions about the tourney to Valentine, as I have no idea why Drey was allowed to partake in it, nor do I think it was right to allow him.

Baron Morgan,

It was the notion I received from your original letter, and to imply that a non-warlord is capable of pettily abusing a warlord partner, as in the scenerio you gave, was basis enough for that notion. If you were not questioning the worthiness of a non-warlord's achieving barony, at least understand how I managed to believe it to be the case.

But what bothered me the most is had a non-warlord won the tag-team tournament, his or her triumphant celebration may have felt cheapened had s/he read this questioning. I truly feel it should have waited until after the tournament culminated.

Also, I honestly see no mention of precedent in your first letter, the one to which I originally responded.

Baron Ev'rt,

Indeed, I can now see how that impression was given, I apologize for the manner with which I addressed your concerns. At the time, the question was one of speculation, and based upon the worst case scenario.

The question of precedent was not mentioned until later posts, and I believe I had addressed those issues separately. However, I did begin the discussion in case the community wanted such tournies to become a more common occurrence.

I painted it in the basest of manners, for in my time here I have seen the basest of behavior. I do not mean to condemn all duelers, for each is an individual and should be treated as such. But rather if this seems to bolster, or rally, or enhance, our sport, we should examine it further; from the bottom up ... perhaps that comes from my experience with ships, for that is generally how the finest is told from lesser vessels.

For as the most dashing Mackenzie has pointed out (flattery only, Sidartha, I mean no foul!) I would not enjoy living in an "unchanging vacuum".

In truth, though I am as yet undecided on the matter as a whole, there are some among the lower ranks that I would be *honoured* to have as a fellow Baron, not the least among them Lord Seregill, whom has graced me with his presence and stood by as my Second for many of my challenges.

I have apparently become overly verbose in my later years, so for now I will leave it at this. Eventually I will make myself clear enough to comprehend.

Sidartha chuckled as she tacked up a tiny note under Ellisa's missive, having little interest as of yet to comment on the topic at hand.

No foul noted, Ellisa. You speak only the truth. Carry on.
