Cassius,
In near every challenge I've pressed, I've posted an exact copy of my challenge missive minutes after sending a letter to the challenged.
There was, however, a period where I had an extreme apathy towards this community and may have cared not to bother. I don't remember.
Are you experiencing extreme apathy towards this community?

Well, "You thinks" is wrong. Don't think, you're not smart enough. You've more the penchant for groveling at the feet.

Funny, you didn't when you challenged me. You were quite involved in the Community at the time as well.
Are you experiencing extreme apathy towards this community?
Simply put, no.

"Simply put, no."
Then why did you wait so long to inform the community if not apathetic? I admit my apathy. There are times this place wears one until they don't care. I'd say that's why my missive never reached the boards, if in fact you're telling the truth.

Oddly, all I see is someone who's so obsessed with their ring that no amount of whining about being challenged in the first place will suffice.
Surely, Baron, you're man enough to simply beat the Roman, aren't you? You can't possibly think that such a vituperative response to Warlord Maximus having the unmitigated gall to challenge you garners you one iota of respect in anyone's eyes, can you?
Regards,
Ian Rex.

Lady Starfare:
I really could not care one whit less what may or may not be transpiring between Warlord Maximus and the Baron.
It certainly seems to me that if the Baron is offended by the Warlord's actions, the best manner of dealing with the issue is simply to get in the ring and kick the snot out of the Warlord. That the Warlord is whiny does not make the Baron's whining less objectionable.

I find the array of replies to Gaius's challenge absolutely fascinating. Frankly, I find the behaviour of the Baron disgraceful. He displays a desire to win and hold the 10th ring specifically that I find somewhat dangerous. He indignantly attacks all those who ever choose to challenge him, speaking as if he perceives every challenge as a personal attack. Likewise, he has tended to react in the past to friendly
attempts at constructive criticism with equal vituperation. Gaius has issue with Var's behaviour as Baron, he says, so he is challenging. That is what someone should do in such a case.
Var has, in the past, gone longer than a year without being challenged for the 10th. Every time he has been challenged for the 10th he has responded quite self-righteously and insultingly. I do not believe that I have ever once seen him accept a challenge with good grace and defend his ring like a sportsman. Yet he constantly makes character judgements about them while displaying behaviour quite similar to that he find objectionable.
Is Gaius perfect? Of course not. Gaius still has a lot of growing up to do, as the number of responses to his attackers show. I, for one, believe he would have been perfectly justified in ignoring every attack in the first place. He would have been equally justified in making a single post explaining his actions as requested and letting the matter rest. Counterattack only serves to invite further attack.
That said, Gaius is still displaying a slightly higher level of maturity than his attackers. I don't think he is fully expressing himself as he intends, but he has always had a tendency to trip over his words a little. This is a sign of a very passionate nature, which is hardly a bad thing.
Whatever the support of a tired old man counts for, Gaius has mine. I also think that, as I have said before, Var feels far too proprietarily about the 10th and is far too abusive in his responses to challengers. He has shown moments of intelligence and maturity in the past, but whenever he is challenged he reverts to accusations and name calling.
I think Var needs a break to enjoy the world outside the Arena. It might give him some appreciation for the fact that while the titled ranks are certainly noble and historied, they are only the various trophies of a sport. They are honoured trophies of a noble sport, it is true, but it seems that too much of the Baron's life revolves around that sport while forgetting that it is a sport.

Percival, you're hilarious.
>I do not believe that I have ever once seen him accept a challenge with good
>grace and defend his ring like a sportsman.
Did you even read Var's post? He specifically said the he accepted Damien's challenge like a good sportsman, and held no animosity towards Damien. I was part of the council when Var was challenged, and I remember him showing good manners to Damien during the ordeal.
>but it seems that too much of the Baron's life revolves around that sport
>while forgetting that it is a sport.
Why don't you take this into account before you blurt out such blantant comments? Var has a family he takes care of, and I'm sure they'd be his first priotiry.
Thanks for the laugh, Frenchy.

This isn't true at all. He didn't attack Damien at all, other than with his rapier in the ring.

I really thought you were above supporting someone like Cassius, Percival. Though, in retrospect, I'm hardly surprised.

Percy Poo,
I find yuir comments utterly drool, Percy. Quite typical and, ast be yuir wont, uninformed. Tis quite plain that thou art nae cognizant of previous challenges involving the Baron Var Medici-Giovanni, nor for that matter art thou cognizant of the behavior of the roman thou dost laud nor of his handling of challenges issued unto him.
So like thee, Percy, to spout much the same ast the roman, and to comment upon what thee hae described ast being disgraceful behavior. Assuredly, Percy, tis well know what thee dinna consider to be disgraceful. Perhaps if'n the Baron Medici-Giovanni hae garnered his ring with improper challenge, he wouldst rise in thine esteem? And let us certes nae fergit that thou didst shout ta the rafters that the former Baroness, Morgana du Cornwall le Fay's
behavior wast reprehensible and unbecoming her title and Ring. How verra apropos ast well that thee wouldst support the roman and naturally turn a blind eye to his behavior and decorum. Perhaps thou shalt claim old age, bad hearing and poor eyesight? An amusing premise to contemplate.
How verra interesting, thine comment upon friendly constructive criticism. Perhaps thou be nae familiar with the Terran term, oxymoron? Wast it perhaps thee, with all thine oh so diplomatic skills what didst offer such? Or perhaps t'was done by that utterly witless an' assuredly unprincipled lout of a roman?
What matter, Percy, that the Baron hast previously nae faced frequent challenge? Be that a flea crawling up the roman's hindquarters which he feels duty bound to scratch? Interesting, Percy, for certes there be a number of Barons what hae held their titles longer and nae be Cassius seeking to unseat them, whilst assuredly casting various aspersions upon both their skills and their reigns.
Let us nae beat about the bush, Percy. Cassius indeed takes personal issue with the Baron, for in the Baron quite properly and upon more than one occasion hast called the lout to task for his vile tongue and his insults. Let us also note that the roman hast nae ceased his juvenile attempts to deny what hae been witnessed of his behavior. Further, tis rather amusing that the roman hae nae ta intestinal fortitude to admit to his deeds.
How utterly amusing that thou wouldst opine that the roman ist displaying anna maturity attal. Thou assuredly hae nae displayed such. Perhaps thou art as well giving lessons unto the roman in that particular area? Pity.
Perhaps, Percy, tis thee what shouldst wobble yuir way off to some convenient home for the elderly and take thine milk.
How like thee, Percy, to consider the Ring of a Baron to be merely a trophy. Tis assuredly the roman be of the same mind, how verra like thee and the roman to belittle that which represents one of the verra pinnacles of this ancient sport. Fie on thee, trophy indeed.
Admittedly, tis nae surprise thee wouldst champion one such ast Gaius Cassius Maximus. Thou art ast unintelligent, witless, unprincipled and ast wavering ast be that lout of a roman.

I feel I must echo Ian's sentiments regarding this situation. Whether or not Cas is justified in making the statements he does, Var's reply was no more mature than the initial letter issued to him.
Var is not the first baron to have an "unruly" challenger, who calls into question the barons worth. Usually, a more simple solution than an open flame war, is to settle it in the ring.
Why Var chooses to continue with this petty, pointless debate is beyond my comprehension and I would much rather see him solve his differences with Cas in the ring.
I am not saying Var doesn't have a right to flame Cas, nor am I say that the ring solves all differences. However, in our current situation, I feel the ring is a more appropriate battlefield than the message boards.
Its a baronial challenge folks, honorable or not, it *must* be settled in the rings. That is the way of the Duel of Swords.

This is getting really pathetic everyone. First of all, Cassius challenged Var. He gave some reasons, one of those being that Var did hold the ring for along time. Now people are so out of ammunition and frustrated by his not responding to your really quite sad attempts to anger him that they bring up the point that he is challenging for the sole reason of Var holding the ring for an extended period of time before, and
not addressing the real issue of his personal distaste for other things Var has done.
Call me what you want, but Cassius clearly made his point about his qualms with the Baron in his challenge letter. I saw it. If anyone wants to say that he failed to mention this, you obviously were so quick to jump on the "I hate Cassius" bandwagon that you didn't notice it.
Secondly, Cassius never once said anything to insult Var directly in the original challenge letter, it was quite formal. I personally don't think (coming from the source) that he said anything about Noelle either..but I could be wrong, however, I strongly doubt it. It seems to me that Cassius is doing the intelligent thing here by not giving into your petty bickering and inflammatory statements. Does this bother you so much that you have to say he
isn't adressing the issues? Come on, that's pathetic. Cassius answered Var's questions, maybe dissecting his every letter in order to answer the specific questions in each line wasn't good enough? As to him not answering to the fact on the Leo issue, I remember him saying that he probably did..that's an answer, maybe one lacking in strength none-the-less, but an answer.
My real problem here is that people are defending Var (Whom I have no personal problems with) who is acting the least intelligent in the issue. Var immediately balked at Cassius' letter, that was apparent, he then started firing back..I don't blame him, I did the same to Taylara if anyone remembers...Cassius answered the questions calmly and said that he was not going to argue, except in the ring..which is what he is doing. Why is Var so bent on
dragging the challenge out? A misspelled name? Maybe..that would make someone mad. However, Magnus didn't wait a whole 2 weeks to set a date from the challenge of Long Wang Lo because the Warlord didn't get his name remotely right.
Maybe Var wants to drag the challenge out for some other reason, I don't know..so I can't say. He's the one bickering, yet people blame Cassius..that makes little to no sense at all, maybe someone can enlighten me.
Var's been level-headed until recently, I've seen a change for the worst in him and that bothers me, however I'm not going to tell anyone how to run their life. Maybe he's fed up, but this is not the way to go about dealing with that.
I'd be fed up with a Community that acts the way this Community does sometimes, but I'll still fight for it, although I can't answer why in a long form. I have to agree with Ian and Jeff though, Cassius challenged and Var has to accept, apparently Cassius isn't backing down..Var (and everyone else who has something to say) will just have to deal with it for now, and do something upon the result of the challenge.
