A New Variable

Enough was enough. Even machines could be distracted, and all this commotion downstairs was doing exactly that. How was he supposed to solve this problem with his matrix when the Watchers kept tracking movement and activity downstairs? Humans. Synonymous with "nuisance." He knew who was down there, or at least he knew some of them. His working partner Deuce, Deuce's girlfriend and the interesting looking
individual who called him "no smell man" for reasons he couldn't figure out. He didn't know and didn't care why they were involved in this shootout down there (and whoever was doing the assault could use lessons in tactics. Non-lethal weapons and this poor excuse for a distanced formation wouldn't cut it in most militaries) but he did care that they were interrupting his work. The easiest thing to do…well, the easiest thing would be to knock them
all unconscious by flooding the room with a gas compound but the building lacked the air ducts to accomplish that. So he'd just have to go down there himself and put a stop to it. After all, it's not like they could hurt him.
Moments later the matrix and image transfer to the secondary projectors initiated, and Matt Simon, Opal firmly upon his arm, phased right into the middle of the melee.

The last thing Charlie expected was to have a table come flying at him, but he handled it well. Ducking his head and turning away, he took the hit on his shoulders. Staggering forward a few steps, he shook his head then whipped his sub-machine gun up again and fired, in case the target was attacking.
Dave merely cursed under his breath and fired another net at the target. The people on the stairs were out of the situation completely, so they could be safely ignored.

Maetel dodged the second net and crashed into another pair of tables, knocking them over and scurrying behind one just as another burst of rubber bullets flew in her direction.
This wasn't going as well as she wanted. Her combat personality module was nearing the override point, but Maetel wasn't *quite* in enough danger for that to happen yet.
Then her ear twictched at a familiar sub-sonic noise. It was a noise she'd heard a few times before, but she hadn't yet figured out what it meant.

Charlie dropped the clip from his sub-machine gun and slapped in another. "Shove the orders, I'm killin' that thing." he muttered into his radio.
Taking aim, he leveled the sub-machine gun loaded with armor-piercing rounds at the first of the two tables.
Just as he was about to fire, he got the next big surprise of the night.....a man appeared just a few feet in front of him.
"What the *****?" yelled Dave, swinging his own weapon to bear on the new person.
