Notice to the Community (Formal Acceptance)
From: dexm@aol.com (Dex M)
Date: 16 Apr 1999 11:21:20 EDT
Officials, Fellow Stewards of titles in the Duel of Swords, Friends,
As you are aware, about 3 days ago, the Renegade Baroness, Jaycynda Ashleana, had her challenge validated as per the tradition of the sport. I hereby make official notice and acceptance of the Baronesses challenge. I will be posting this response on the cork for the community.
Baroness,
At this time I suggest we should meet to arrange the details of the match. I would ask for you to consider a number of callers that you may wish to have adjudicate the match. This will help us to identify those we could approach that would fit the date and time that are set. I will tell you that I do have some ideas in place for date and time and will not adjust those to fit a specific caller and hence would like a series of choices to find a caller
that can fit the date we do end up with.
Finally I wish to make some comments to the council, and once posted, the community at large.
I think there are really three main reasons people challenge.
1. They take an issue with the title holder and wish to see them removed
(don't like them, don't like what they stand for, etc)
2. There is something about that title that calls them to challenge for it
(history and the like)
3. They challenge for themselves
(the thrill of the battle, personal goals, etc)
These may be loosely worded and some might adjust the categories, broaden my definitions or narrow it down to even more basic views. Sometimes people will challenge and hide the true reasons within another one that is listed above. However, The end result in all three cases is that...
A challenge is pressed to the title holder.
As a result, The title holder will meet each challenge in the way they see fit. I pray that the way I meet this challenge will be true to my love for the sport and the overall best interests of the community.
Baroness, till we meet!

Very well written. It is good to see such a sentiment expressed by the Overlord. While I am largely neutral in this matter, considering both challenger and challenged to be my friends, it is good to know that we have an Overlord who puts the needs of the sport over the demands of those who would influence him. After all, to borrow a fairly common phrase, a good leader listens to the advice available and then goes ahead and makes his own decision.

This is rather vague as it does not tell us anything that we do not already know.

Morgan,
I am sure its best we wait till the challenge takes place and see what the Overlord has in mind. We may all be pleasently surprised or collectively disappointed. Whatever his choices they are his and it would probably be best if he wait for the time to execute them rather they lay them out for any potential adversaries who support his opponent.
I beleive its called neccessary tactics to win the gambit. I am having fun personaly watching the show without any foreshadowing.
