Well, if we are talkin bout how long peeps been around, I'm going on 7 years, sad to say, and 6 year and around 5 months of those were spent as commoner.

Well, I'm just going to use Ian as my benchmark. I've been here a little longer than he has, but I have never been called an old-timer. I have been called once, but that had nothing to do with my time here.

Since others were sharing their perspective on "old-timers", I was simply sharing mine. Everyone's definition of 'old-timer' varies. To me that is what I consider old-timers, simply for the fact that when I first started in DoS, they were already established Warlords who influenced my dueling career, both in and out of the ring, as I was learning what the rings were.
I was by no means trying to define what 'old-timer' should be, merely what it is to me. And my point was that since everyone else was throwing their two cents in, I might as well too.
And I personally don't care if the people I mention are relevant to today and to those people dueling today. They are relevent to me and I duel today.

The term "old-timer" suggests a meaning of "still alive" (or perhaps in this case a better translation is "still around"). Concurrent to their still being around, these old-timers are also around to relate to others those times long ago. Those who have moved beyond the realm (in way or another) are no longer here and can therefore no longer communicate to anyone those past days of yore.
If we presume that in order to qualify as old-timer that one must still be around, then a great many names must be relegated into a different category. A category more a part of the history of the Arena than its present. Perhaps the category becomes "Legend." Legends are those of whom only memories remain. Their absence is now so permanent that stories are all that remain.
I don't think Ian meant that this group of names does not deserve respect, but rather the term "old-timer" is not applicable to them. Perhaps you are misinterpreting Ian's choice of the word "relevant" as meaning of no value. I am reasonably certain that Ian did not mean that the names you mentioned were not noteworthy or famous, but simply that the term "old-timer" was no longer relevant or applicable them.
Certainly no one could argue that Siera Redwin was not a name of some reknown, and there are many here that still remember her name with great reverance, but Siera no longer qualifies as an old-timer, by virtue of the fact that she can no longer relate her own stories of the past. Nor can Feadur, Gondar, Max, Gloin, Marx, MacHeath, Chiana, LadyeBeth, Shakira, Kairee, The Ermine, Splugorth, or any others in a very large host of names.
Legends like Siera Redwin certainly had an influence upon duelers within these rings, but they are no longer here to maintain a continuing influence. Old-timers like yourself, Ian, Valmion, Simini, and Jonalyn ARE here to create a presence and continuing influence upon the politics and events of the rings.

And I was here when Valmion entered the realm like a whirlwind, rallying knights together in honor against evil. ::smiles at the remembrance::
And I remember the arrival of Baph and Luthien and Ecore and all the others mentioned - all except Amaltea, the Queen of Barsi. But I have fonder memories there - memories of playful rendezvous in secret places long before Xeno was Overlord and her love. I remember dear Siera Redwin who kissed with such passion she left one's lips swollen with pleasure. I remember the arrival of Soarell who could melt a man's heart with a glance, and Sidartha who
first caught my eye when arm wrestling at the RDI (there was only one Red Dragon Inn then, and seldom full).
Those were good times and I treasure the memories. There were days when I entered the member room (there was no "Arena") just to be with friends and flirt with the ladies. Hell, I think it was only after more than a year of flirting and playing before I finally gave in and fought my first duel, shocking everyone there.
I've been a retired Warlord for longer than most have been around, but don't call me an old timer. I'm just someone who's been around long enough to have seen the best and the worse of what the realms and our sport had to offer. Being here a long time doesn't make you special or better than anyone else. It just gives you more to remember and to reflect upon.
No matter how long you've been dueling, treasure the memories and let your friends know you appreciate them. Don't be too hard on your enemies, and don't take yourself too seriously. The world goes on - even without the Legends.

I must take a moment to say, very well spoken. I also believe that some should be put on a higher pedestal than just "former Overlord" or "old timer". I have recently comissioned the fair Lady Simini to design a ring for each former Overlord. Something that could be added to their already fine histories. I believe that a "Hall of Legends" would be appropriate, but not only for those that were perhaps Overlord, but for others as well.
My former teacher, Lady Beth would be one that I would suggest for such a hall, for her color and grace blessed all of us in those early days of dueling. Others such as Quentor, Goldensword, RSVRameriz, Fantasy RC, just to name a few. This is a thread that should be continued, for in such a hall, stories could be rememered. Perhaps such a hall would make one consider their conduct and honor a bit more, knowing that one day they could be voted into
such a hall.
Well, now the old timer is starting to ramble, so I will leave this to the ideas and critizisms of others. Once more, well spoken Guy.
