I thank anyone who can give me an account on history. I thank those in history for building the foundation of this lovely place, and I'll never know how many pints of blood, sweat, and tears went into the creation of it. I am extremely grateful, and I'll learn the history of those people out of due respect to them and a thirst for knowledge. But to take history and front it as your right to pass as a better is
ridiculous, and to debate over it is ludicrous..if you were a good man then, you were a good man then, if you changed for the worse now..well, you're a lesser of yourself and shouldn't be given your past as a high chair to sit on and reign as superior to others. But if you remain a good man, a good friend..well, that's what those around you will make of you..what I can take in is what I judge upon now, and the past is a thing to which I give respect
to, for all my presemt fortunes sprout from it..a man can change, for good or bad, so, merely, the past should be respected and learned through that respect, and those in the present should be respected and should be the element of which you judge others on. The fact that someone has been here in the basement longer doesn't make them older than any of the newcomers, it doesn't make them better, or themselves less in worth. So, basically: Those who
have been situated here longer, should be respected for their deeds in the past and their promise for the future...the newcomers should be respected for the latter, and anything they can offer in knowledge and wisdom from their travels and past experiences- we all weave a tapestry for the DoS, and everyone, past, and present, have a patch to contribute.

And a liar, on top of it all.
After all, you did say I wasn't worth responding to, so you wouldn't.
I wasn't "quoting" you, which just goes to show what the combined intellect of a Sicilian and a Welshman gets you. I was mocking you to make a point. Get this through your head, Ecore: by sniveling and huffing and saying you're going to withhold your knowledge - even after I freely admitted that it was worthwhile (oh, and how amusing that you didn't bother to address THAT; or would it have scarred your pride to actually realize someone said
something nice to balance out the rest?) - all you did was prove that I was right.
You don't care one whit about helping or supporting this community. All you care about is being appreciated for doing it. As I said... better people should go to someone whose willingness to offer that information comes from wanting to help, rather than to shine a light upon themselves.
And, of course, again you throw the elitist rag in my face when you're far more guilty of it than I. You always have been, and you always will be. You take a shot at the Amethyst Ring; the only people who have ever been turned down for membership in that organization were turned down because they were wholly indistinguishable from the hind end of a donkey.
Then again, if the fact that the only demand I make of people is that they act like reasonable adults rather than petulant children makes me and my colleagues elitist snobs, then so be it, I suppose. I can live with that, just as I live with imbeciles calling me a bully, idiots calling me a tyrant, weaklings calling me a dictator, and psychopaths calling me anything they can think of.
One last point, Ecore:
You accuse me of thinking I am unduly important, and seek to claim you do not feel the same way. I will now remind you of words you yourself once wrote to most of this community:
"I am the heart and soul of DoS, and what I have done has brought life to it again, so forever more whether I won [sic] or lose this Challenge I shall always strive to be Overlord." - Elijah Basia-Uhr, the "Son of DoS," as he himself signed the note, 1996.
In all my time here, I have never been so egotistical to think, much less express, that I am the "heart and soul" of this community, Ecore. Perhaps that dragon should land elsewhere, hmm?
Ian Rex.

"Have you ever given anyone the benefit of the doubt and just sat back to see if maybe they really do change or are trying to do something just for the benefit for doing something to make positive change, Ian?
No, you haven't."
You're not only addled, Ecore, you're a liar. I have indeed done so, on numerous occasions; Jonalyn will be more than happy, I expect, to point out that I do it far too often in regard to people who don't deserve it. More to the point, however, I've done exactly that with a certain Welsh highlander not once, but twice - and was made a damned fool of both times.
You burned up that card long ago, Ecore. If you wish to prove something of that nature, then by all means do so in the face of my opposition. If I become convinced that you are genuine, I'll even apologize.
However, you're not off to a good start here.
As for bitterness, I expect you're equally bitter because my ideas come to fruition while yours are scorned; and as for you taking a ring from me, if I was as pathetically obsessive over title as you, yes, I probably would be bitter. As everyone here well knows, however, I simply have no desire to gain title again. I've proven all I need to. It's a shame that your failings leave you feeling inferior.
As for my skill with a blade, you apparently thought it suitable to ask my intervention against Baron Oakenshield at one point... so your current stance merely makes you sound like an idiot with no judgement whatsoever. After all, you can talk all you wish about my skill, but when you needed a blade to assist you, who did you seek out? Should this community heed your current words, or your witnessed actions?

<<After thinking on Iain's remarks over the night, I have come to a simple conclusion. I won't bother to share what of history I know or was apart of anymore. Since the farthest desire I have right now is to bring any negativeity towards myself as I was for once trying to do something positive, I simply give up. History is better left in
the past and remembered fondly in the minds of those who experienced rather then try to share it with inconsiderant elitists who assume alterior motives.>>
Well! To whoever provoked him to this level, thank you very much. I wanted to know about the history of the Arena, but now another knowledgable source is sealed off.

If history wasn't important, it wouldn't be in textbooks.

I think arguing makes these two feel important. Well, I'm skipping over this stack from now on.

Indeed, thee hae a penchant for giving the benefit of the doubt, and hae indeed done so with those whom, in me estimation, most certes dinna deserve such. Yuir a stubborn cuss, Ian. Well do I recall thee standing for those, such ast a certain Welsh highlander and a certain Valheru, offering thine blade and laying thine honor and reputation on the line, as well I recall mine chiding thee both gently and firmly for thine stance.
Thee hae displayed anger, aye, disappointment, sadness, pain, anguish, but ne'er in all the manna years I hae known thee hae thee displayed bitterness. Ian, thou werena made a fool. The folly lay with those what couldna see beyond having thee stand at their side. Methinks t'was within them the belief they wouldst stand higher in the eyes of the community for that thee hae offered thine support. Sheer folly, but t'was nae thine folly, Ian.

Ian, Ecore:
Simply, I think that anyone who has to bicker back and forth like this on the public boards arent just arguing amongst themselves. Ian, you accuse Ecore of thinking
"If I can't have my feet kissed for doing . something, then it's not worth doing."
I looks to me that you are guilty of the same thing. You both are bickering back and forth on the boards for attention. Each of you has to publicly say "hahaha look at this moron trying to get attention from everyone!"
Well in doing that, you're guilty of the same. Take this useless bickering to personal discussion, whether it be mail or face to face. If ya dont, then I'll never have any respect for either of you, and mind you, I used to have a lot for both of you.

Sir Cassius:
My humblest apologies if my discussion with the former Baron seems self-serving. I will freely admit I take personal issue with the faults I outline, but my purpose is not merely to argue with an old rival. Nay, it is not even to tear him, the person, down.
It is, however, to call out what I perceive to be a damaging influence on the community. It is, indeed, to say, "Bear in mind who you are dealing with here."
I have no objection whatsoever to Ecore offering his knowledge. I have stated such. I do, however, feel that it is unseemly to allow one to reingratiate himself into a community by offering knowledge of the past without that community being aware of HIS past as well.
It is not for me to judge, on behalf of the community as a whole, Ecore's past. I may judge for myself, but I would remind everyone that they are, as ever, free to make their own judgements, based not only what I relate to them here, but on what they hear from all other quarters.
Even amidst my personal disgust, I would consider it improper for anyone to pass judgement on Ecore's motives, past, or personality based solely on my own comments. This, in a strange sense, has been the entire point of my discussion; knowledge gleaned from only one source is, in the end, virtually useless as truth... because that knowledge is only viewed through one set of eyes, and is coloured by that singular perception. That is why no one
person is special for having knowledge of the history of a community - because that knowledge is, invariably, biased. In this particular instance, I feel that it is even more biased than normal, as Ecore has often chosen to take an extreme view of events surrounding him, and I feel it necessary to point this out.
I am sure even he understands that rationale, and in saying this, I will leave the matter in the hands of the community, in order that they might seek what answers they might from whatever quarter they wish (unless I am further questioned, of course, in which case I will answer appropriately).

Sir Ian,
You have an excellent point, good sir. But I shall draw to your attention, that, like Ecore, you have returned from a long absence. Like Ecore, you were a weathered veteran in the sport of swords. And like Ecore, your history here goes back farther than I, and most of the patrons here now, can say that we have been.
The reason why I am reiterating these points is to show that because you have come back from a long absence, many of the patrons are unsure of your history and motives, just as you say that we are unsure of Ecore's.
You yourself have already been the subject of some controversy, though I didnt pay too much attention to it, simply because I dont know much about you, or your controversial "Amethyst Ring". However when you returned, I was ready to give you the respect that you had earned in the past. I was also ready to give Ecore that same benifit. The reason being, is that you have both done the same thing. You've come back. Youve come back after many
things have changed, after many people have left, come and even died.
My point is, like you, I will continue to give Ecore respect that I think his standings alone dictate. . as does his colorful past. I think its only fair that anyone who didnt truly know him or you by actions then, should do this. Now, for those that know you two...thats a different story. They may care to tell what you both were like, or not. If they do, it wont really matter.
Sincerely,
Sir Father Leo Caius Cassius Pride

Sir Cassius:
Your points are well made. I would, unreservedly, expect any who question my own motivations to investigate in whatever manner they feel necessary.
For those who feel that one's place in the standings is an automatic ticket to respect, that is their prerogative. I do not judge them. Others do not have that view.

As long as you maintain the fact that those who do not share that same view with you Iain are just as important to this community as all others, but perhaps in diferrent ways then you desire. In my opinion its was the basic duel that founded this community, and those that understand the basic foundation philosophy of the duels, that the
blade still will always rule the day, that I can definitly agree its who wields the blade who makes the true leaders of this sport. I have always admitted I would much rather just be an Overlord without being a leader. For some the two are one and the same, and for others they are two totally different things. I've given up leading anything ever again in this sport, Houses or dojos, or any othewr precieved political movement. Though I don't see
myself ready yet for being Overlord, doesn't mean I have given that up. The Overlord is the Supreme Dueler of the sport, the king of the hill and I would like to see how long I could stay at the top the way in which you had no choice when this sport was founded. I would have a nonTest of Worthiness reign, regardless of who challenged me and for their reasons. Simply for the fact those that I watched become Overlord before one on one with no one
else getting involved, to me that is the basis of this sport. To meet your rivals face to face and not involving others to fight for your causes. Well I think faced with the choice and standing by the choice not to use an option but to face all my foes mano o mano is the best way to represent your own dueling career. Atleast for me it is, and so given the oppurtunity I would base my reign on such, to see how long I could last just on my own.
Boring, but satisfying for my own personal tastes. And yes it may be selfish, and well fine if it is. But I know I am not the only one who feels that way, and I know not everyone thinks the way I do. If you did I would be very concerned for the overall stability of RhyDin. I don't pertend to be any different then I have been before about what is important to me or what I believe in. Maybe I've just changed my methods, but what I have always
beleived in remains true. I admit my approaches in the past haven't been the best and I've allowed things to get chaotic and crazy. But, I rember a simply basic Darlier tenant, "Let your actions speak for themselves." Rather then get others involved to act for my words, I am just doing my own thing now. Enjoy the ride.
